  1. That's definitely a post-Zeppelin photo. It must have been around the 1983 ARMS tour. Page's appearance, wardrobe and dental situation indicate that era.

..I thought so too...I think Richard looks bit aged for to be '77?

  2. ...AEN27, thank for posting the never seen photos before, what can I say, HOT HOT HOT!!!! ........

and Mag, Love the New Scarf ... wondering if I should classify this next to His No. 1 Classic Vintage Blue Polka Dot Scarf...most loved accessory of James Patrick Page, loved by All Pagettes...!!!

...Oh, and his Guitar...no comment, there are other places for it ;) ;)

  3. Onstage Australia Feb '72 / Offstage Mar '72 film clips recently discovered & released

Seeking assistance in pin-pointing which Australian '72 gig is featured in this clip as well as any of the landmarks or locations in the Bombay '72 clips.

    http://www.youtube.c...h?v=wl6wqtI1T_Q

I have already determined the offstage India clips date from March '72, almost certainly during the first week of the month as they were still at the Park Royal Motel in Brisbane as of 2/29/72. The EMI studio where Page & Plant recorded 'Friends' as well as the Slipped Disc discotheque around the corner where they went with Cole (and allegedly performed 'Whole Lotta Love') were located in Colaba (Southern Bombay) and these maps suggest it was there (Colaba) at least some of the video clips may have been filmed:

Note: On Feb 14, 1972 the group had diverted into Bombay aboard an Air India airliner after immigration officials in Singapore refused to grant entry unless they cut their hair. However, they checked into the White Sands Motel in Scarborough (Perth) Australia by that evening and besides Jimmy was not clean shaven until part way through the Australian tour.

    Hi,

Most of the Bombay video has been shot in the Mahim/Bandra area; specifically Mahim causeway where the fishermen boats used to be parked in those days. The Masjid is the Jamat-E-Ulema Masjid in Bandra. It still looks the same. The boats are no more and the new Worli-Bandra Sealink bridge is now right across the bay. Page and Plant would have been looking at it from the beachfront if it was now!

I will double confirm above locations and additional important points of interests,,,

    1. Zep are arriving under the Huge Billboard seen in distance, ultimate Classic Film Hare Rama Hare Krishna, depicting Screen Legends Of Film Industry

    2. Robert Plant also is filming or has camera as I can see it...

    3. Driver Razark mentioned by Cole I believe is also in taxi/cab

    .....

  4. ...Pamela Debarres is witness to time line for Aug. dates...she recalls no Las Vegas Date...

The Official Site must value her opinion as she is with Page...

...finally, it is immoral to alter a fact in history, I sincerely hope I was not part of this moral value...

    goodbye

  5. Interesting point. I think we also have to consider Berkeley "unconfirmed" at this time too.

...Pamela Debarres is witness to time line for Aug. dates...she recalls no Las Vegas Date...

The Official Site must value her opinion as she is with Page...

  6. I&TT! This could be the big break that cracks the case. I'm all over it.

Elvis played Las Vegas from July 31 - August 28 1969 and I think we've deduced there are only two possibilities based on Led Zeppelin's tour itinerary - July 31st or August 12. It's possible I&TT gig he attended was in LA.

...."That night we had front row tables. It was the first time any of us had seen Elvis perform. And we weren't disappointed.

"perhaps the only dissatisfied person among us that night was John Paul, but it was good natured-despair. Before entering the showroom to see Elvis, we had spent a few minutes in the International's lounge, watching Ike and Tina Turner perform. .....

"He turned to his wife Mo"........

    Richard Cole - STH'92 Page 96

This is night of August 11 (as mentioned by Ms.Pamela in both I'm with the Band and Take another Piece of my Heart, further Richard Cole STH states the same...

..August 12 date is not witnessed by Ms. Pamela...They all left and all came back the next day for sure to LA (as discussed before)...

John Paul Jones did witness I&TT but Zep cannot perform concert this date...Highly likely they come in contact with Vegas on July 31...

If there was concert this date Aug. 11/12, Richard would have remembered it likewise as they attend Elvis...

It is further my opinion after reading Page 95 from STH,

"The Zeppelin Wives joined us for a few days during that tour, including some of the shows in Las Vegas and other West Coast cities"that Vegas/West Coast Cities close by remain as a unit...L.A. is not part of this...

John Paul Jones recalls staying at the Caesar's Palace as reported by the Official Site previously...

  7. I asked about the Ice Palace...did LZ have an event there , what date and anything to back this up!

...This is a excellent question on behalf of all the fans, tks. Deb

...Contribution to establish accurate Led Zeppelin Timeline is of utmost important, I am sure Richard Cole realizes and values that...

  8. The Yardbirds "White Summer" New York, New York March 30, 1968

..Deborah, loved these 2 videos you just posted, both just so entertaining.... I did see the Yardbirds, and I should post those pictures in the Other Section...

I love to hear Neil Christian with Jimmy Page...hopefully it will come around......

  9. Everytime I listen to D&C from TSRTS, I swear RP says "Devil people" during the part of San Francisco where he is supposed to say "gentle people". Anyone else ever notice this? Go to 6:40 to hear what I'm talking about.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wewu45XSb00

...I listened to this just after your post, and was bit reluctant to give my opinion, the very first listen, Robert does indeed sound like "Devil", I do not hear a "G", "T" sound, honestly, it is quite clearly "D"....

I have heard this song many many times, but never paid close attention, now first time I did, and it is what the controversy is....

  10. That guy's impressive and sort of creepy all at once.

Well it seems to be in addition to Black Country, not instead of it. I don't usually go for these sorts of things (and generally really dislike cover bands) but it seems to have a different feel when Jason does it. It's more personal and commemorative, so if he feels he wants to keep putting these together, power to him.

... It is an addition, and of course, Respect for His Father's Profession. Jason wants to challenge himself and is willing to take the risk (Nothing will happen to Zep of course). I agree with other fans that Jason needs to create his own music, as any artist must and should, to be truly justified as an artist, likewise, I am hoping that from this project Jason can produce unique creativity that will justify his apprenticeship well into the future.

I am sure that his Late Father is proud of this venture that His next generation believes in Him...

    ZEP’S DEFINITIVE BASS GURU

    The Telegraph, Calcutta India

    Thursday, April 16, 2009

It is perhaps fitting to start our 2009 series of Learning With t2 with a bass player who has influenced whole generations — the inimitable John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin. It is nearly a must for every budding bass player — why, every musician — to study the groovy bass lines that act as the backbone for Zeppelin’s unique sound, and Jones himself is one of the most interesting bass players from the late 1960s.

Every musician finds inspiration in a predecessor and so did Jones — in the bass playing of Phil Upchurch of Chicago. In Led Zeppelin, Jones’s bass lines were characterised by the coming together of powerful melody and time, going hand-in-glove with the band’s rhythmic powerhouse, drummer John Bonham.

Overtones of genres like blues, funk and Motown are unmistakable in Jones’ playing, which is also a key to the success of this British rock band. People would not only come to hear Zeppelin play, they would also come to dance.

Jones comes up as a perfect example on the subject of versatility of a musician. Apart from Zeppelin, he had done sessions as a bass player-composer, arranger and multi-instrumentalist (playing keyboard, mandolin, guitars, ukulele, continuum, recorder etc) with bands and artists like John McLaughlin, the Rolling Stones, Jeff Beck, Cat Stevens, Rod Stewart, Tom Jones, R.E.M., Peter Gabriel, the Foo Fighters and Paul McCartney, to name but a few.

Jones’ contributions to the Zeppelin sound extended to the use of other instruments, including an unusual triple-necked acoustic instrument consisting of a six- and a 12-string guitar and a mandolin. He also advocated the use of pedals or single-unit processors to complement the sound of the band.

His bass-lines were always intertwined with the melody of the song — sometimes with it, sometimes as a support — but always complementing the drummer, always powerful and usually promiscuous.

He used a 1961 Fender Jazz Bass till 1975, before moving on to custom-designed Alembics for the road.

The quietest member of Zeppelin, Jones released his first solo recording as a single for Pye Records in April 1964 which featured Baja. Some of his solo works are Scream For Help, The Sporting Life, Zooma and The Thunderthief.

Since Led Zeppelin’s split in 1980 with the death of Bonham, Jones has collaborated with a number of artistes. Jones played in the Led Zeppelin reunion show at London’s O2 Arena on December 10, 2007 as part of a tribute to Ahmet Ertegun.

  12. ..I have spoken to that mentioned archivist at UNLV numerous times. I am also aware of that publication via reasearch. unlv does not have copy of this, as it ceased printing.... SEE LINK HERE for magazine info.

    http://books.google.ca/books?id=PQqhz7JSQZUC&pg=PA135&dq=Las+vegas+panorama+magazine&cd=1#v=onepage&q=Las%20vegas%20panorama%20magazine&f=false

Tne Las Vegas Panorama magazine originally stared in Florida and moved to Las Vegas '68 in hopes to extend their market. It was responsible for all "teen" events" and Zep would have been listed IF THEY PERFORMED AS OFFICIAL FIRST TIME ACT (which they did not)...since Led Zeppelin only appeared as "Special Guest" then Pinknany Candady or other acts as Michael Tell would have booked would be LISTED...

The aim of this Panorama magazine was to work with Radio Station KLUC from Las Vegas.

    Update...

Received January 26, 2010 email from UNLV Archives Listings...

    ....Hi

I looked further and although nothing by the title Las Vegas Panorama, I did find it under simply Panorama. Our holdings are:

    1955, 1966 - 1979 (INCOMPLETE) FOR HOLDINGS, SPECIAL COLLECTIONS

...The said archivist in contact above is in control of this publication...

addendum...Publication incomplete as in original years from Florida, complete for Las Vegas

  13. ...just wanted to quickly update my research...

    I have searched the following:

The Rebel Yell - Student Official Paper - The Summer Issue is NOT PUBLISHED

The Las Vegas Israelite - Michael Tell's Paper - No News at all of Zep--just small community related news in July/August

(Thanks to Ms. Eva at the UNLV archives for this and the above posted articles re. cancellation'70)

-The Las Vegas Free Press, the Editor is Jay Tell/Michael Tell's brother, his own news paper did not mention their very own production in the cancelled article...(sorry, photo bucket has deleted it, but I am sure SAJ has saved it, and I have a copy somehere)

    ............

I have two news papers that need to be searched, if Deborah is going to Las Vegas then these are of highly interest:

The Valley - another secondary news paper from Vegas for which entertainment secions from Ice Palace were written..

The Las Vegas Israelite, April'70 Issue - I found article earlier that states Michael Tell promoted Led Zeppelin with his marriage news to actress Patty Duke...apparently, this was head line front page news in their own publication...

...The Los Angeles Examiner - it came with Las Vegas entertainment section - this can have ice palace bookings...

I have briefly looked into the possibility of the latter...I do not believe UNLV has a copy, but other archives may...I have not yet done this...

    ......

The UNLV has Las Vegas Visitor - this lists all weekly events from '69......it has been listed in the archives..

    this can be checked...

sorry, the archivist cannot check all the publications at once and the microfilm is not available for Loan from UNLV as I was informed....

  14. Actually, he said the opposite:

"Led Zeppelin topped the bill with Pinkiny Canandy as special guests and a local band opening the show. Haven't a clue who they were". - Michael Chain

..O.k. ...but they remain special guest...not as FIRST TIME OFFICIAL ACT in Vegas (to the caliber of all other concerts, ie. The Doors......SAJ..I must PM YOU...

    later...

  15. PlanetPage, I apologize if I overlooked you speaking with the archivist anywhere. Just trying to find an answer:-)

..no need to apologize...tks for finding answers...just to let you know, she is very well aware of the search specifically with me, and others as well. Last year at the very first conversation with her she informed me that Las Vegas Review Journal (Promoter Michael Tell's very own family memeber is journalists in this publication!!) came by and could not find anything...

The said magazine above is a DEFINITE source for July and August listing for '69 Vegas events including the Ice Palace, as many teens events (Concerts)took place there.

If they have any "REPRINTED" news from that magazine somewhere that would be great...but it is I must say highly unlikely...

...LED ZEPPELIN PERFORMANCE IS IMPROMPTU BEYOND REASONABLE DOUBT...THIS I HAVE ESTBLISHED TO DATE FOR SURE...
