New Tommy Bolin album will feature big stars singing along with outtakes, alternate versions

A new tribute album to the late Deep Purple guitarist Tommy Bolin will find a galaxy of stars playing and singing along to outtakes and alternate version of his solo material. The project includes appearances by Peter Frampton, Warren Haynes, Nels Cline, John Scofield, Derek Trucks, Steve Lukather, Sonny Landreth, Joe Bonamassa, Steve Morse, Brad Whitford and others.

Bolin, who also worked with the James Gang, passed in 1976. This new album, to be called Great Gypsy Soul, is set for release on March 26.

Here’s a look at the track listing for the CD: The Grind (with Peter Frampton); Teaser (Warren Haynes); Dreamer (Myles Kennedy, Nels Cline); Savannah Woman (John Scofield); Smooth Fandango (Derek Trucks); People, People (Big Sugar and Gordie Johnson); Wild Dogs (Brad Whitford); Homeward Strutt (Steve Lukather); Sugar Shack (Glenn Hughes and Sonny Landreth); Crazed Fandago (Steve Morse); and Lotus (with Joe Bonamassa, Glenn Hughes, Nels Cline).

Premiere: Warren Haynes with Tommy Bolin "Teaser"

March 27 is the official release date of Great Gypsy Soul. This disc presents a number of contemporary musicians working with tracks left behind by the late guitarist Tommy Bolin. John Scofield, Derek Trucks, Nels Cline, Peter Frampton, Joe Bonamassa and Steve Lukather are among the artists who worked on the project, which is now available for pre-order.

Warren Haynes served as co-producer and also appears on this track, “Teaser.”
