Plant said, “His was the voice of my ‘coming of age’… dramatic… imploring… pained… spectacular… I learned his every nuance. I lived in grief and joy in his songs and, crazily much later in time we became friends, in our “‘Atlantic’ connection… A wonderful, kind man. A huge influence, loved and respected by so many. My thoughts go out to Betty….” King died aged 76 from natural causes on April 30, 2015. He is survived by his wife, songwriter Betty Nelson, who he married in 1964. Both King and Plant were signed to Atlantic Records.
