afman916
Hi all - I'm a budding guitarist who's interested in finding the "best" versions of sheet music in standard notation for fiddling around with over the coming years. I was looking at the Alfred Music sets, but found a few reviewers who mentioned that the transcriptions aren't as good as other individual sheet music versions that can be purchased. I found a vague reference to Jesse Gressel (sp?) as being one of the better transcribers, but that his stuff is out of print. I can't even find a reference to those books online... Anyone, just wondering if anybody has recommendations for books to check out. I'm making a concerted effort to learn to play from regular sheet music as I feel it will pay dividends in the long run, in that I can stop relying on YouTube videos and taking forever to learn a song. I want to be able to just open up a book and go to town.

afman916
Sorry about that, should have checked out the forum structure better before posting! I posted over there, so mods can feel free to delete if necessary. Thanks!
pageluvva
This monster of a book is truly amazing! I have found 99% of the transcriptions, tunings etc to be bang on. Well worth the money. Warning, it is heavy as hell.
afman916
I was looking at that one, thanks for the recommendation! I’m finding that being able to sight read guitar music is worlds away from when I played saxophone...
