  1. NOPE.....the MURDER of 6000000 Jews and the napalm bombing of entire civilian villages in Nam is T E R R O R I S M!!!!!:):):)

With respect to your argument,I do not wish to debate either of these events.Good luck.

  2. For what it's worth I'd like to chip in the following in the soldier/terrorist debate. When U.S. forces put Bin Laden out of his misery, and if I remember correctly, twelve children and three of his wives were also in the building. No fatalities took place among them,as we all know one wife was shot in the leg.Never happened to me,probably not a pleasent experience, but not in itself a life threatener.I would call this a professional job done by these soldiers.Today (Friday) two suicide bombers, members of the Pakistan Taliban apparently, blew themselves up in a Pakistani town.Eighty,I'll say that again, eighty poor individuals are now dead thanks to this act of barbarism with probably more to follow.Among them will be women and children. That is terrorism, may the sub humans who carried it out rot in hell.

  3. Maybe if the Terrorist were to put on a Uniform and stand up and be counted, instead of hiding in the general population reeking havoc on totally innocent people, then maybe we could class Terrorism as war.

I know for a fact that my son who is in the Armed Forces would be horrified to be put under the same Banner as a Terrorist.

At the end of the day Terrorist are Sly, underhanded, Scum, taking the lives of people going about there daily routine.

I live in a Town that has a Forces Barracks locally, I know what it is like to live in fear of bombs going off on a Daily basis, Remember the IRA & the rein of terror from letter bombs, litter bins, shopping malls, pubs and many more puplic places & services.

IMO there is a big DIFF between WAR & TERRORISM. ;)

I am very happy to second all of that and I'd also like to say,as a civilian in the U.K.,thanks to your son.

  4. I am serious. I did put a question mark at the end of my comment to indicate that it is a speculation. The answer may never be publicly known.

The honeymoon was planned as well as his time off from work. He is the future king, I am sure he can be off work whenever he pleases, particularly for his honeymoon. And there could be no better reason to delay than due to a security threat. They wouldn't have used the word "postpone" if they were planning in advance to go at a later date due to the prince's work schedule.

I will not argue with you.

    http://www.dailymail...-honeymoon.html

I hadn't put two and two together, then last week my wife said pretty much exactly what you said.I think that it is entirely feasible that any royal honeymoon would be postponed under the circumstances of that weekend. In the eyes of some he is the future King of a "crusader" nation that is an ally of the U.S. and all that implies.Britain also has many historic ties with Pakistan.

  5. I'm assuming some of the older members of the site might've wondered where I whiskered away to for the past year and a half. Well, I got myself into a relationship with a girl which put me into a harsh mental state which led me into a eventual mental breakdown which led me to be diagnosed with bipolar. I spent the first half of 2010 trying to control it and I failed. Having lots of crying breakdowns and lots of anger flying all over the place. Eventually I got myself onto Medicaid and got my medication in me and I've been doing much better now. I also go to therapy when I can and I try to keep my head up about bipolar.

Good luck feller, keep that chin up. ;)

  6. Oh, my post wasn't directed at anyone in particular on our Forum. I had just been reading about reaction in the European press - mainly France and Germany - about how distasteful they found "Americans celebrating an assasination" and it seemed like a grossly unfair generalization. From what I had seen and read, the celebrations were very few and far between.

    Don't be too concerned FireOpal,when Germany say's "jump",France say's "how high?".

  7. No worries, RIGHT-WING can be written both as 2 words and as a compound word...that's modern English for you:):)!

Corruption means buying your way to power....and if you think that is good, that is another topic we should start elsewhere:).

Would you like me to believe that if the peoples of Egypt, Tunisia, etc. had the $$$ they would have chosen the men who they are trying to get rid oF??? NO WAy man :):). That is where the whole corruption thing comes into it. I don't really have to explian more if I choose not to you know?!!:)...it's so clear. Corruption also meas using the $$$ those kingdoms have to try and crush the people's LEGIT uprising.

Thanks again for the reply, but once again nothing in your answer backs up your statement about the west exporting corruption to the middle east.I am not harping on about this to be pedantic, you made a statement and I am truly interested in what facts or opinions draw you to come to the conclusion you have.I want to know.Of course you don't have to explain more if you choose not to,as you've said above, but I'd like to know all the same.I'll not post again on this topic,so the floor is yours.Good luck to you and yours.

  8. Footage of Saddam being hung was "leaked", so to will there be photos of OBL.

Briefly on either Saturday or Sunday just passed,a neck up photo was shown on either the main BBC newspage or The Telegraph (a British newspaper) newspage showing what perported to be a photo of the dead bin Laden. The body was obviously showing trauma to the left eye,in truth it looked more like a black eye with subsequent swelling than anything else.It was not gory at all and, having seen the photo myself,I would say that it was definately the man they were after.

  9. Well, finally some debating:):):)......it is UNdeniable that the likes of Saudi Arabia and Bahrain and Kuwait have very close $$$ ties with the Western world.....and pls be careful, I said WESTERN WORLD, not only the U.S.A.:):):). Mubarak had ties with the Western world and the people got sick and tired of it all.....they have just recently discovered both Mubarak's and Gheddafi's $$$ stashed away in Swiss banks, NOT Islamic banks :):). Of course the West is civilized.....I myself am wholly part of it and live in it and work in it. BUT I am NO YESMAN...never haVE been and NEVER will be:):):). EYE know when I'm being fooled and the worst leg-pulling is the one enacted by one's own country!:):)

Of course I will keep on throwing mud on RIGH-WING ideals.......RIGHT-WING IS A DIRTY WORD AND WILL REMAIN THAT WAY FOREVER:):)

Spidersandsnakes,I could see you were online so I thought you would reply quickly. Thanks for that, but you have not aswered my point about your original post. You've mentioned the states above having "ties to the western world".Of course they have, every country in the world is now interconnected to many others in a million ways. That fact in itself proves nothing. As for Mubarak and his Swiss bank occounts, well are you surprised?Islamic banks do not allow the acrueing of interest,so Mubarak, like so many other despots with their eyes on their wallets decides to shop somewhere else.Who is world renowned for both healthy interest payments and secrecy? The land of the yodel. You've mentioned the Egyptian people getting "..sick and tired of it all" regarding Mubarak's ties to the west, but that did not start the recent uprising in that country. What kicked it off was the suicide of a young student,if I remember correctly, who killed himself in despair at the lack of economic opportunities in his country. It has spread to other country's from that fact.In essence they want what we in Britain,America, europe,Australia,Canada and Japan, etc all already have and take for granted. They want freedom and they want a future decided by themselves.Anyway, that you and I know and would probably agree on,but I would still like you to explain about the corruption you feel that the west has dumped on the middle east and how it has effected them.I cannot see it myself, but I'll read your argument for.By the way,RIGHT-WING is two words ;) ,and have you bought that Patti Smith photo book yet ?Good luck.

  10. YES......THAT is exactly what I said.......WESTERN STYLE CORRUPTION!!!! Can you deny that the West exported its WORST forms of CORRUPTION to the above-mentioned states??! Oh sure....those people WILL have their deserved freedom, but only when they get rid of their monarchic rulers will they actually OBTAIN freedom!!! The PEOPLE did it in Egypt, in Tunisia, they are doing it in Lybia.....AND they will do it in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, etc. as well.....THE PEOPLE ALWAYS WIN....it's undeniable, it's under the eyes of the whole world.....let's wake up to it :):):):)

Never mind the three examples I gave to you, which you haven't bothered mentioning,I would love you to explain how the west has/is exporting its own type of corruption to the states you've mentioned.I'm of the opinion that the west has,in the main, exported civilisation to these countries, you will probably not agree and your free to do so,but explain to me about,as you see it,the corrupting influence of the west on these states and their people.Let's not go on about RIGHT WING again either as western governments have been of all sorts of politcal persuasions over the last, say, seventy or eighty years.

  11. The peoples of TunisiA, Egypt, Lybia, etc. are fighting against Western style CORRUPTION that has long infiltrated their countries.....including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait......CAN'T WAIT TILL THEY ALL TOPPLE:):)!!

Western style corruption?Spidersandsnakes, you have got to be joking.Surely what the people you mentioned have suffered under and are sick of is islamic totalatarian corruption. You know the one,no free elections, states of emergency lasting decades, all the top government jobs handed out to members of the rulers family, etc. What these people want is really what we in the civilised world take for granted. It's called freedom.I hope they get it and hold on to it.

  12. You can't defeat an ideology. Radical Islamic terrorism is an ideology that did not start with or die with Osama Bin Laden. I said it before, I'll say it again -- Bin Laden was merely one head of a hydra. Cut it off, another will grow back in its place. This is not the end, and the end is nowhere in sight.

I agree with you about this not being the end, probably a long way from it.But ideologies can certainly be defeated. Both nazism and communism were both discredited and defeated and islamic totalatarianism will go the same way.The west has a huge part to play in its defeat but maybe the people who really defeat it will be those in islamic country's who have risen up recently and made plain that they want change.

  13. Don't you mean "Ding-dong! The witch is dead!"? Or is "the bastard" a Kiwi variation of the phrase? :)

Now that there has been confirmation of a DNA match, it looks like Osama bin Laden is not only merely dead, he's really most sincerely dead!

"DING-DONG THE WITCH IS DEAD!", indeed.

I'm not particularly religious so I have no problem celebrating bin Laden's death. I've worked with battered and abused women and children and there are some people in this world beyond redeeming. No amount of prayer or counseling is gonna change them.

As for the chance for repercussions, I understand the qualms a few of you have expressed, but there were repercussions having him alive, too. If given the choice between having him dead or alive, I'll take dead anyday.

And if there are any reprisals, so be it. We can deal with them. There was terrorism before bin Laden and there will be terrorism after bin Laden. I'm sure most people understand we still have to be vigilant and aware.

But every day Osama bin Laden remained free, it was like he and his supporters were laughing at us. The big, powerful, technologically superior United States couldn't find one little old man hiding in a cave. Well now they know that, even though it may take a little time, the United States gets their man. And, with bin Laden's death, and some of the other high-level al Queida deaths, maybe, just maybe it is them that are feeling a little unsure and afraid.

Oh sure, eventually someone will take Osama bin Laden's place as the figurehead and the "face" of terror. But I don't think there will be too many eager applicants rushing to fill his shoes, knowing that HE will be next in the U.S.'s crosshairs.

And if for no other reason, it was worth killing bin Laden just to give justice and closure to the families of the victims of Sept. 11...nay, to families of all the victims of bin Laden's terrorist plots around the world.

The world is a better place with bin Laden dead.

BIG CONGRATULATIONS TO THE NAVY SEALS, and everyone else involved with the planning and execution of this VSO. As a fellow vet, I'm so proud and I SALUTE you!

I've never trusted Pakistan, so it's about time we kept them in the dark. If they had known about this mission, no doubt they would've alerted bin Laden. You don't hide as long as bin Laden did wthout OFFICIAL help.

But the U.S. got him. Today is a good day.

Pakistan deserves the most severe scrutiny now.It is inconceivable to me that knowledge of the whereabouts of this deceased barbarian was not known to those in authority there.I would also question why your government, the U.S.,and mine, the U.K.,feel the need to supply this regime with millions of dollars/pounds in aid when their attitude has appeared so ambivalent towards islamic terrorism. This aid should be stopped immediately. As I've already posted, well done U.S.A.Today is indeed a good day.

  14. Thank you to all the vets who have sacrificed in the name of our freedom . As well, thank you to all who still are

It could not be better put than the way Ally has put it above.I'll just echo it.

  15. Yes, I am a fan of Mrs. "Sonic" Smith :):):)......saw her live in an UNforgettable live show in Europe in the 80s:):).....are there any photos in that book of her "Sonic" Smith period?:)

I'm not sure off the top of my head when the lady married Fred Smith, but all the shots are confined to the 1969 -'76 period. There are certainly none of them together in the book. It's virtually all Patti at home alongside some photo's of her with Robert Mapplethorpe, Sam Shepard and one each with Tom Verlaine and Richard Sohl.As I've said, some terrific images among them.I saw her and the band just the once, during '78 in Cardiff, and she was fantastic, one of the best gigs I ever went to.

  16. Thanks, Walesdad. Another great song from OGWT that he did was "Walk on Hot Coals." Blistering guitar solo, as usual, but also some keen keyboard work from Lou Martin. But check out Taste's 2nd album "On The Boards" to catch a glimpse of what Rory was to become later on. That album has it all. Blues, jazz, country and, of course, rock. That's where "Morning Sun" came from. One of my favorite tunes is "Railway and Gun." The song starts with Rory gently finger picking the guitar with drummer John Wilson keeping time on the snare with rim clicks. At the end of the verse, you can actually hear Rory crank up the volume pot on his guitar as the song explodes into the next verse. Also, you may like "It's Happened Before, It'll Happen Again." Jazzy tune with a Charlie Parker-esque be-bop feel to it. Rory even plays a pretty good sax on the song.

Your welcome friend.I don't know why,but the only Taste material I have is a cd best of that was released a couple of years ago,it does though include a few of the songs that you mentioned above. The album illustrates the versatility of Rory that you mentioned and this post will probably spur me on to get some of those Taste albums that I have missed out on over the years. You mentioned "On The Boards" having it all, well I've always thought that throughout his career,Rory Gallagher simply had it all.The man could do anything,he'd probably have made a good job of blowing the bagpipes. To illustrate my point,my Rory Gallagher top five would probably include things like"Messin' With The Kid","If I Had A Reason","Continental Op","Should Have Learnt My Lesson" and "Edged In Blue".Among that lot you've got rock, blues,a walzt tempo tune and a rock ballad! If you wanted to include things like "Calling Card"(a jazz flavoured classic) or any of the many solo acoustic tunes that he did that had touches of the blues or country music in them, they all show what a master of pretty much any genre of music Rory Gallagher was.

By the way,I can remember that other "Old Grey Whistle Test" appearance that you mentioned,I think the band also did a terrific version of "Hands Off" as well.I liked the Gallagher/Mc Avoy/Campbell band, but for me the top line up behind Rory Gallagher would always be Gerry McAvoy/Rod De'ath/and particularly Lou Martin. With the addition of keyboards, the bands sound really opened up.As I've said before,a hugely underrated musician who is sadly missed.Cheers.
