The reason everyone was "wrong" about this is....

My understanding is the reason the entire world - down to practically every political hack and pundit - was wrong about this is it was mistakenly thought by ALL that Russia possessed an extremely powerful and modern army - known as the world's "second army". Turns out running a mafia state does not result in a cohesive armed forces - and that makes sense as Putin needs to play groups off against each other to maintain being "The Don".

The initial march into Ukraine should not have been a competition, but due to a lack of co-ordination that highlights the complete absence of effective command and control structures, along with a "second army" being rotten to the core due to the incredible corruption at every layer from Shoygu down to area commanders that rendered the equipment and logistics/supplies not much better than completely useless for all but the Special Forces (which were wrongly utilised trying to take Kiev and wiped out) the Russians blew the "5 days" target to topple Kiev.

This all happened WAY before "the hysterical (and self-destructive) overreaction of the US to it". By the time Europe/Nato/The US had reacted, it was already over. Russia were NEVER going to achieve their initial goal of absorbing Ukraine back into the motherland. Their plan-B seems to be a drawn out war waiting for the west to tire so they can slowly choke out Ukraine until submission.

I personally think Russia will simply run out of fight before then. Especially now. Putin most likely is fucked and that will have an effect on Russia's ability to continue with this. The Oligarch's with all their frozen billions in assets and seeing how Russian citizens were openly cheering Wagner forces are likely to themselves be planning who the next leader should be so they can resume their bullshit lives.

I expect Prigozhin will show up back in Africa where his money is made. As long as the big $$$ keep making back to the boss, Putin may yet have some use for him. We'll see. It's typical mafia. It's just business, not personal.

  2. No Quarter from Montreal Feb 6th '75 (A Pseudonym Remaster).

Page kills it here, he was off to the races with that solo. Insanely good rendition of this song but man, that solo really blows me away. Experimental but always great. What a flow. The ending plantation and audience comments are unreal too. They perfectly reflect how good it must have been to witness.

  3. Putin has been severely weakened and Prigozhin seems to have bitten off more than he wants to chew. Moscow was in reach and he turns around and agrees to exile. My theory is he reached out to several key people to see if he could indeed orchestrate a coup and got no support. It's really strange how he was marching unopposed and even had the sympathy of many troops and civvies, and all of a sudden announced withdrawal and exile.

Neither man looks to be in a good position now. I can't see how Prigozhin survives unless Putin has agreed to "retire" Shoigu and Gerasimov in the near term. Maybe as part of a "night of the long knives" for his inner circle???? If not, how Prigozhin survives is a mystery.

Like I said about the caves.....You'd never get me to go down in one of those subs.

Fuck no. If a free ticket with a million dollars attached was offered, it's still a solid no. I'd do space (not the bullshit low earth orbit rubbish) no probs, but fuck no to a spell in one of those coffins.

Thank you Australia for "Mr. Inbetween" and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. You are forgiven for Paul Hogan and Kylie Minogue.

The original Paul Hogan show was epic. We were allowed to stay up late to watch it on a school night!, it was that good. Very good memories of that.

  6. QLD ONCE AGAIN somehow manage to pull it out of the fire with 1 man in the bin with 10mins to go. Another incredible win only marred by the shit refereeing. Klein (ref) thinks blowing the whistle is more fun than the county fair.

  7. Origin game 1 tomorrow night. Mitchel is out for NSW which helps QLD a great deal, but it's still anyones game. Hopefully it will be the same calibre of games as last years series. Game III last year was amongst the best ever.

    Go the mighty maroons....

It is easy for people who don’t live in these areas to talk shit and spout nonsense.

Just as easy as it is for those who live in those areas to not appreciate an outside view.

the people coming here for a better life absolutely do the work that our natural born citizens will not and would never do.

That doesn't necessarily mean the fact they fill that void is "a good thing" in and of itself. There is a much more important question there.

they have never come up with any solutions. Never once.

No one has come up with solutions. Measures that are in the interests of national security, human rights, and generally "trying to do what's best" are not straight forward. We have had really challenging issues with immigration that the left and the right has not dealt with to the dis-satisfaction of the clear majority of people. My assumption is that this is not a unique localised phenomena to Australia (the US, Europe, elsewhere).

It's difficult to comprehend just how bad it got. No more democracy. Or at the very least, the very real possibility of no more democracy. An absolute con-man.

The Right is a dying breed in our nation, and it’s because they are totally out of step with the younger generation.

No it's not. There is and always will be a "right". At least I hope so - in ALL free western democratic nations. It is insane on the right right now. The left for all it's faults is NOT as bad or dangerous, but can definitely rise to be equally insane in ways that matter.

I can talk to my parents and in-laws who have incredibly deep and fundamental differences in outlooks because I understand they are coming from their space. My kids don't really agree fundamentally with a lot of what their grand parents might think in the political context, but they have absolutely NO lack of respect or love for them. I don't think it's out of step, it's just every generation and their elders.

I really hope the younger generations NEVER lose touch with the wisdom and appreciation of the difference of the older generations - or those generally with different mind sets.

  9. Prigozhin is outright positioning himself as a "tool at the disposal" of those that may instigate a "change" in Russia through his recent commentary about "the people" revolting. It is astounding he is taking such a risk, but at the same time, he knows it is highly likely some kind of change is coming. It may well be that Russia does not survive intact after this but fragments (more likely than not I'd say). Either way, my guess is it will be another muppet at the helm who satisfies the siloviki, facilitated by Prigozhin who will exact his price.
