  1. There's a BBC programme which goes out in the morning on weekdays called 'Homes Under The Hammer'. It is a programme in which experts uncover the tricks of the property auction trade. Last week, when the two presenters were going round one of the houses bought at auction, 'Houses of the Holy' from Physical Graffiti was playing throughout as the background music.

I've seen Stairway to Heaven being played in the background on that programme as well, someone on the production team must really like Zeppelin! B) Not that I sit around watching daytime TV. :D It was on a big TV in the Students Union at the university where I work. I remember the song catching my attention on my way to the Post Office and it put smile on my face to hear it. :)

I've noticed that the BBC uses lots of Zep tunes in the advertisements for its programmes. Recently they used to Misty Mountain Hop for Lark Rise to Candleford and Battle of Evermore for a history programme about the Normans.

  2. Magic, I love Rupert Bear!!! In fact, my grandad (from my mom's side) bought the movie "Rupert and The Frog Song" in the form of a VHS cassette for me when I was just 4 years old! That cassette contained "Rupert and The Frog Song" and also a movie about "Paddington Bear". Iconic stuff! It was in fact my very first movie! :D I used to keep singing the line : "Side by side, hand in hand, we all stand together!" That song brings back so many amazing childhood memories! I still love it so much! Thank you so much for posting this Magic! It really means a lot to me! And did Paul McCartney create that song? Gosh! I never knew! Now I love him even more!! :D

You're very welcome Kiwi. I really enjoyed listening to it again. :) Yes, Paul McCartney wrote it, it's on his 'greatest hits' CD I have. He got quite a bit of stick at the time and still does for writing such a 'silly' song, but, like you say, I just have even more respect for him for doing something like that for kids (and adults :D ). As you say, 'Side by side, hand in hand, we all stand togther' is such a lovely sentiment. I always thought we should have this song as our national anthem! :yesnod: In fact, I think I should write to the Queen and Prime Minister and suggest it!

  3. Taken from our backyard telescope again. Better pic than last time. Jupiter is quite bright in the summer sky now and will be at it's closest on Sept 21.

What an amazing photo. I love astronomy. My mum has a telescope, and I vividly remember when Halley's Comet was visible on earth in 1986 all my friends coming round to my house to view it. Please keep posting the photos from your telescope.

  4. Two things made me happy today :

    1. When I heard the news that all 33 miners from Chile are safe and sound! :D

    2. When I got "down and dirty" from a very literal sense when I chose to clean my apartment from top to bottom just to help my mom out and I must say that I am pretty proud of the results! :D

Yes it's great news that all those miners were safely rescued, isn't it Kiwi? I just hope the mine owner does the right thing now and permanently closes that mine since it's so unsafe.

I've also been getting 'down and dirty' this morning - cleaning the house I mean! :D My old vacuum cleaner broke down earlier in the week, so I've been taking my new one for a spin around the house today. It's amazing the amount of dust in the carpet that it managed to suck up! :o

  5. i love it when they go off on tangents, and fry is very good at mimicking people and their accents.

we have also just been watching a series about the origins of the universe, and YES!, my mind is spinning too. it's all a bit much for me to comprehend, and i still have the same question : where is "here" ???:blink:

Well the Horizon documentary was trying to answer the question 'what is nothing?' The Big Bang it was argued could be nothing more than a big sham! The scientists in the programme were suggesting that the Big Bang wasn't the start of everything but the end of something else which had been going on forever. Maybe Stephen Hawking has got it wrong! Anyway it was all very fascinating, but I'm not sure I'll ever get my head around the physics behind it all!

  6. we've been enjoying QI ( quite interesting ) hosted by stephen fry.

it's really funny, and you find out all this weird and wonderful stuff about our world that you never knew.

i wish sciencs classes were like this at school!

I watch QI on the BBC here, it's very entertaining, and as you say, you always learn something new! :D

Last night on BBC2 I watched Horizon: What was Before the Big Bang? My head is still spinning from it, but very interesting.

  7. Well said. Not only am I'm convinced that Lennon was a musician in is own league, but I think the world would be a different and better place had he not been murdered. I'm interested in learning more about his life during the mid to late 50's and very early 60's, so I'm looking forward to seeing the movie Nowhere Boy.

I've seen Nowhere Boy and it's a really good film, much better than I was expecting.

  8. The fact that I was able to donate NZ $5 today to "The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation" and get a pink ribbon and wear it all day at Uni to show my support for such a worthy cause! :D

That's great Kiwi, well done for supporting such a good cause! Giving makes you feel good doesn't it? :) I've just put out a huge bag of unwanted clothes for the Salvation Army to collect for homeless people.

  9. Magic, that was just too cute! I love "The Muppets Show" :D

And I am going to tell you something which might suprise you! I still watch "Pink Panther", "Tom and Jerry", "Looney Tunes (Bugs, Daffy, etc.), "Garfield" and "The Flinstones" after a hectic day at Uni :D. I really love cartoons for their innocence and animation! And yep! I guess we are just a bunch of kids at heart! :D:lol: My mom loves cartoons too and being an only child, I really bonded with my mom thanks to cartoons! We used to pretty much laugh for hours and hours over Bugs, Daffy, Garfield, etc. My dad used to sometimes look on helplessly and wonder "when in the world are my wife and daughter ever going to grow up?!" I don't think I'll ever outgrow cartoons! Even when I'm 65, I'm sure I'll be watching them with my grand kids perhaps! :D I love pixar films too like Shrek, Ratatouille, Kung Fu Panda, etc. :D

No that doesn't surprise me at all Kiwi, because I'm exactly the same! I was watching an episode of the Flintstones the other day and thinking this is too good for kids! I even have a few DVDs of my favourite kids shows when I child for when my 3 year-old nephew comes to visit - I need to something to keep him (and me!) entertained. Of course I never watch them on my own! ;) I also love Pixar films. I had a massive sulk in the summer when my partner refused to take me to see Toy Story 3! Now I'm patiently waiting for the DVD to come out!

This is one of my favourite songs from a film. You've got love Randy Newman!

  10. Somehow, I have always loved the term "Groovy Cat" and I find this instrumental song rather "sneaky" and funny! :D

And this one is so funny in my book! And the vid of the dancing mouse is hilarious too!

Kiwi I used to watch the Pink Panther all the time when I was a kid, that one really took me back, thanks for posting it. I think deep-down you and I are really just big kids. :D

This was one of my favourite theme songs (and still is!). I loved Miss Piggy!

  11. I voted Houses of the Holy. I love the representation of innocence and mysticism. I have a poster of that album cover on my office wall and I never tire of looking at it. B)

  12. Heres an oil painting my Grandmother made for me in the early 90's when she was in her late 70's

Lovely painting by your grandmother, it's great that she's still painting at that age! I expect you really treasure it. :)

I've been looking through all the art on here and have been totally blown away by the talent on display! Please keeping posting your artwork everyone. B)

  13. ^ Awwww....thanks Magic! :friends:

Good old Rudolf always makes me smile and gets me into a good mood!

And here is the version I have for a ringtone (I've had it since December 2009)! B)

Kiwi that's one cool ringtone! :D I love the Beatles mix, I can see why you want to keep it, and it'll soon be Christmas again anyway. There's Christmas paraphernalia in the shops everywhere here already!

This one takes me back to childhood birthday parties. For the record I never did the dance, I just quietly moved across to the other side of the room and pretended I wasn't there! I had forgottten how awful it is! :o

  14. I searched the Auckland Uni library for Led Zeppelin (I seem to do it at every library I go to) and there's quite a few there kiwi, I also have quite a few if you want to borrow anything. Considering you live just down in Cook St and all!

Wow, Auckland Uni must have a big Zeppelin fan who is charge of buying books for the library, or maybe you have a music department that teaches classic rock, that woud be pretty cool! B) There aren't any decent music books in my university library, despite us having a big music department. The library's latest musical addition is a DVD of the Corrs live!
