  1. Reswati,

Pleased to hear this. It sounds like you are turning your life around. :cheer:

Finally got rid of the last items that my former gf still had left at the house (which was a whole ceiling full of gizmo's).

    Yesssssssssss.

I guess in a week I finally am done rearranging the house, which was about time.

  2. Thanks to you too aen. You are always very courteous. :)

In Chelsea there are always paparazzi around the area looking for celebrities. It looks to me like JPP didn't know he was being photographed.

    Thanks as always, kenog! :D

  3. Ledded1 - really cool photo! - you look like you could be one of Zeppelin's management team!

Dano59 - love the guitar, and you are 'playing' it low slung like Jimmy!

STZ - You haven't aged in all these years! Looking fantastic in both this photo and your avatar.

  4. When I was looking at the Facebook page for the Richard Cole Appreciation Society, I noticed one of the members seemed to have met band members. So when I looked at her page, I noticed she had posted a picture of herself with Jimmy at the SwanSong offices. I am attaching it here, together with her comment.

I hope she doesn't mind the photo being reproduced here, but if so, Sam can remove it.

The photo is the copyright of Amy Maloney.

Amy Maloney "Swan Song was not posh, that's for sure! His shoelaces were untied. Disheveled elegance. A day I'll always treasure."

  6. The Telegraph (UK) 22 September 2013

The man who turned down Led Zeppelin The history of rock music could have been very different if Terry Reid had joined Led Zeppelin, says Laura Thompson.

On Wednesday and Thursday this week, the Terry Reid Band is playing Ronnie Scott’s jazz club in Soho. How different might the history of rock music have been if, 45 years ago, Reid had accepted the offer of becoming lead singer in the New Yardbirds, later renamed Led Zeppelin?

In 1968, the then 19-year-old Reid was one of the first names approached by Jimmy Page. His sweet, shimmery voice, whose strength contains an intriguing delicacy, had made him a force to be reckoned with from the age of 16. As a vocalist and guitarist he joined a band called Peter Jay and the Jaywalkers, and was praised by Aretha Franklin, no less.

Then, at around the time of Page’s offer, he was signed by the powerful producer Mickie Most, who gave him the soubriquet of “Superlungs”. So, Terry Reid turned down Led Zeppelin, and instead suggested that Page check out a prodigious young hippie from West Bromwich, whom he described as looking “like a Greek god”. With Robert Plant came his friend John Bonham, and there you have it: rock history.

What Reid thought, thereafter, as Led Zeppelin went on to conquer worlds in the manner of Alexander the Great can only be imagined. And whether they would have conquered in quite the same way without the Greek god Plant and his sublime screams is an unanswerable question. Meanwhile Reid’s own career has been a chequered one, although he became a cult figure in America and – as is the way with such under-the-radar figures – has enjoyed something of an autumnal resurgence, playing Glastonbury in 2009 and 2011. If his voice still sounds anything like it does on his gorgeous, addictive version of Stay with Me Baby, then his Ronnie Scott’s gigs will be something special.

  7. Thanks SAJ, I was unable to make the Hyde Park gig this summer, but would got out of my way to travel to any part of the UK to see them next year. So here's hoping. Just thrilled that these guys are still rolling on. It would be great if they continued to feature Mick Taylor.

Unless they decide to go strictly continental Europe - and I don't think they will do so - the front runners to host UK concerts has got to be Cardiff, Manchester and Edinburgh.

  8. SAJ,

thanks for the heads up on this. Do you think we will be lucky enough to get cities outside of London included in a 2014 tour (given that the south of England was lucky in 2013)?

The Rolling Stones to Return in 2014

Tour announcement in March 2014, in April 2014 possible one offs, proper tour starting in May 2014. This is the new schedule for the Rolling Stones in 2014! As Mick Jagger is working with his film company Jagged Films on a highly lucrative Elvis Presley Biography, all tentative planned for autumn European concerts have now been postponed to spring 2014. From May 2014, the Stones will perform in at least 14 cities. Amsterdam, Paris, Oslo, Antwerp and three concerts in Germany are in the tentative plan. Also a Vienna concert is considered fixed.

  9. Remembering those fateful events in the US on 9/11.

"...Relatives of the September 11 victims gathered at ground zero in New York City today to commemorate the 12th anniversary of the attack that killed almost 3,000 people. At 8:46 a.m. a moment of silence was observed to mark when the first plane hit the twin towers on a clear, sunny day in 2001. Amongst those who attended to show their respect was Mija Quigley of Princeton Junction, New Jersey, who embraced the name of her son Patrick Quigley who died on 9/11, main image, and Carrie Bergonia, bottom left, who lost her fiance firefighter Joseph Ogren. In Washington, President Obama marked the 12th anniversary of the attacks with a moment of silence along with the first lady and vice president on the South Lawn of the White House, top right. He also laid a wreath at the Pentagon to mark the moment that Flight 77 hit the building. In Pennsylvania bells were rung and names of passengers and crew members were read at the Flight 93 National Memorial."

  10. SAJ,

Yes, when I posted about the 'On This Day' feature, I was working from memory of the photo (not always a good idea!!). However, I have looked it up on this site. Like you, I copied it as a photo and then enlarged it. I couldn't make out any of the headlines or newspaper name etc either. What I would ask you to note though is that in the photo, Jimmy is sitting on a deckchair, and he seems to be sitting on top of part of the newspaper. Perhaps part of a Sunday supplement? Tell Pete we'll forgive Jimmy if he admits the photo was taken in the spring!!!

My computerised databases tend to go back to the late 1980's when newspapers started archiving their copy on computer discs. However, as you know from our association here and elsewhere, I have access to the original newspapers through the National Library of Scotland - hard copy. So, if you got me a date, and you wanted anything from the original newspaper (front cover etc), let me know.

Good catch! Elsewhere someone suggested it was Jimmy's former band mate Chris Slade but frankly I failed to see a striking resemblance to Chris. I do see the striking resemblance you are pointing out.

With regard to the On This Day (August 12) photo, I agree he seems to be reading the Financial Times. I've magnified the image but unfortunately the resolution is such that I cannot discern any headlines. I'm going to ask Peter Makowski if he still has access to the original photo and if so perhaps he can confirm one or more of the headlines in the paper so we can confirm the correct date of the photograph.
