  1. SAJ,

I am going off-topic here, but the man with Jimmy is the same individual who was with him sitting at a table in a bar in Pattaya a number of years back (YouTube video in bar), which leads me to believe that he is a bodyguard whom Jimmy uses when the need arises.

Michael Lee died on November 24, 2008 in his flat (apartment) in his hometown of Darlington. Jimmy did attend his funeral service held on December 3, 2008 at Darlington Crematorium (as pictured below). Robert was unable to attend but did send flowers with this written message:

"What a waste. Too soon. I'm so sorry, I always enjoyed your enthusiasm and ideas. Robert P"

    Page_at_Dartington.jpg

It was later reported that Michael had suffered an epileptic seizure. Daniel Stanton of Coallier Entertainment said:

"The results of post mortem was a seizure, apparently the worst one he could have had.

"Michael passed away at his flat (home) in Darlington. He was found at his home by his friend and police on the floor beside his bed.

"Michael was out the night before [he died]. He said he wasn't feeling well and went home to rest it off. When he didn't answer his phone the next morning, a friend had the police enter his home.

    "Michael will sadly be missed.

"I have received endless calls from fans, friends and family members surrounding Michael's death.

"The guys in Thin Lizzy are crushed, I have spoken to people in the Robert Plant camp who have also expressed the same. Spike from the London Quireboys has been dedicating their shows each night to Michael. Dave Ling from Classic Rock magazine is said to be doing a feature on Michael Lee in an upcoming issue.

"We will all miss Michael. His boyish smile, his humor, his love and his talent, [but] most of all, we will miss his friendship.

"Michael died way too young. He shares his death with Freddie Mercury of Queen and drummer Eric Carr of Kiss, who also passed away on the same date.

"We love you, Michael. You are forever in our hearts and your music forever in our souls."

  2. Wes,

I think Mick Ralphs is on tour with Mott The Hoople this autumn, but I do understand where you are coming from. Luckily there is a lot of original Free stuff on YouTube which I really enjoy. There is also a very good version of 'Wishing Well' there with Paul Rodgers joined by Slash and Neal Schon.

Bad Company and Free had the same formation Vocals , Guitar , Bass & Drums ,, The Vocals & the drummer were the same , Free don't have a guitarist , Bad Company lost their bassist , so why not forma hybrid

Rodgers , Ralphs , Fraser and kirke

  3. How we made: Kenneth Anger on Lucifer Rising

The director of the 1966 occult classic talks about how an anti-British massacre paid for his film, and the debt it owes to Jimmy Page and a bunch of jailed killers

    Chris Michael

The Guardian, Monday 22 July 2013 18.55 BST

This was the first really big film about black magic or white magic or whatever you want to call it. I'm a member of the OTO – Ordo Templi Orientis – an occult order founded by British genius Aleister Crowley, who was maligned by the gutter press. The Express's rightwing jerk editor Lord Beaverbrook sold a lot of papers calling Crowley a satanist, with headlines like "The man we want to hang", to provoke people to murder him. Crowley's like a bogeyman –, which was unfair. He wrote wonderful books and poetry. Lord Beaverbrook loved to call Crowley a cannibal: eating human beings makes good headlines, and Crowley couldn't countersue.

Lucifer Rising was about Egyptian gods summoning the angel Lucifer – in order to usher in a new occult age, in accordance with the principles of OTO. I used a bit of deception to film it in Egypt. I said I was doing a documentary on ancient Egyptian beliefs and needed to film in the actual settings: in front of the Sphinx, at Karnak, along the Nile where you see beautiful ruined temples. The authorities fell for it.

I'd taken pictures of Black Saturday, the anti-British riots in Cairo in 1952. When they burned down Shepheard Hotel, I filmed people jumping from the windows and being massacred in the street – they had their legs cut off by swords and were left to bleed to death because they were British. I sold those images to Picture Post, which paid for my trip.

Marianne Faithfull [the film's star, playing the goddess Lilith] says I hypnotised her and forced her to do things against her will. I didn't. When I took her to Egypt, she was addicted to heroin and had the nerve to carry some in her makeup box under the face powder, so it just looked like just another form of powder. If she had been arrested or discovered, we all would have been shot – that was the penalty then. I think all drugs are crutches – you don't need them to be creative. Lucifer Rising is not psychedelic, it's a film by Kenneth Anger. It's my style. I never said you should take LSD before watching it, that's a lie – one of the papers invented it.

Bobby [beausoleil, who acted and wrote the soundtrack] was a good kid who turned bad – he was a Scorpio. He was my protege at 19, which is approaching the legal age but not quite the legal age of 21. In other words, he lived with me in his own apartment at the so-called Russian Embassy, this wonderful listed wooden victorian building near Haight-Ashbury in San Francisco. He was in a band called Love, had shoulder-length hair and very blue eyes, and the girls called him Cupid – he always wore an old top hat, which was part of the act. He managed to make some recordings – before the tragedy.

Bobby lied to me, and then he made a terrible mistake. He told me: "Kenneth, I need $700." In the 1960s, that was quite a lot of money. He said it was to buy amps for his act. He and came back with a large package wrapped in black plastic, which I assumed was speakers. Then he went out, and I noticed his dog sniffing at it. So I cut open a corner, and lo and behold it was a key [kilogram] of marijuana. When he came back, I picked up his package and said: "Take your fucking marijuana and get the hell out of here." The next time I saw him, he was on death row for murdering a musician on Charles Manson's orders. Manson never actually killed anyone himself, he just brainwashed these girls and Bobby, who were like his zombies, to kill. Manson was a funny little freak, a dwarf, very short. The good news about Manson in prison is that he's terrified of dentists so one by one, one by one, all his teeth have rotted and fallen out. He deserves it, he's evil and should have been executed. He completely ruined Bobby: Bobby would've been OK if he hadn't met Manson.

But Bobby created his own situation. He didn't have to accept the invitation to move in with the girls. His van broke down in front of the [Manson family's] Spahn Ranch, as if predestined by Satan himself, and the girls came out and said, "Well you're cute, why don't you move in?"So Jimmy Page did some music instead. He's a miser, which is a horrible thing. He wouldn't even pay for lunch. So I said: "Isn't it preposterous that you're so cheap?" And that of course insulted him. He was on heroin all the time – I hate all those druggies because their eyes get glazed and what they say is meaningless because they don't follow through. I said: "OK, Jimmy, I need exactly 40 minutes." But he only gave me 20. I said: "What am I supposed to do, play it twice? I need 40 minutes! I need a climax! Like, [the film] is the end and the beginning of the world – you've gotta give me that big music!"

In the end, I took a tape recorder in to Bobby in prison. He rounded up 12 other murderers who used to be musicians – there's a lot of musicians in prison who got mixed up with selling drugs, but I mean they still could play music. So I recorded Bobby playing with the "all-killer orchestra". Bobby said he was going to call his band the Powerhouse of Oz. I said: "You can't, because Oz means goat in Hebrew, but you're not violating the L Frank Baum Oz book copyright, because Baum was a secret occultist and the Oz books are full of secret little jokes for people that understand magic."

Lady Gaga announces ARTPOP release date
    By Kyle Anderson

Lady Gaga has been keeping a low profile since February while shes been recovering a torn labrum in her hip, an injury that required surgery and forced her to cancel a number of tour dates.

  6. Thank you. It would be nice if you would do that.

One day I'll dig out my photos of the truck and post them. I own the large lucite-framed Page/Plant promo poster that was displayed within the left side entrance (not pictured).

A good example of a successful campaign extension is the Miller Brewing Company "Page/Plant" memorabilia truck. Miller Genuine Draft, the official sponsor of the 1995 North American tour of legendary rock 'n' rollers Jimmy Page and Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin fame, wanted to extend the reach of its sponsorship to non-tour markets and retail accounts. The Miller Genuine Draft "Page/Plant Memorabilia Truck," a completely customized 72-foot semi-rig, was created. The truck was specifically designed to capture the spirit of rock 'n' roll. The unit featured a 4,800 watt professional sound system, nine video monitors, and a 12,000 watt concert lighting system that used 39 aircraft style landing lights.

For consumers in non-tour markets the "Page/Plant Memorabilia Truck" brought the excitement of the tour right into their own backyards. The rig's museum-like interior housed in 3/4 inch plate glass display cases, featured an extensive collection of memorabilia representing Page/Plant from their Led Zeppelin days as well as their current touring. By leveraging high consumer interest value with visits by the truck to key area retailers, the "Page/Plant Memorabilia Truck" successfully drove traffic, bringing interested fans from near and far. In addition, the truck functioned as a fund-raising tool for Second Harvest Food Bank, serving as a centerpiece for food drives, selling merchandise and soliciting donations.

  7. Sems Fir,

What is the 'Page/Plant Memorabilia truck' that you are referring to? I have never heard of this. Presumably, Karen Page must have been approached to loan her memorabilia.

    Hi Steve & Kenog,

The background does make sense. There were a couple of items on display in the Page / Plant Memorabilia truck in 1995 such as Karen's BPI ITTOD Gold record award as well as a complete autograph display that had autographs personalized to Karen.

    Thanks again!

    Robert

  8. He explained the reason he joined the choir in the Sunday Times interview he gave to publicise his photographic book back in 2010. I copied the full article onto the relevant thread, but here is the excerpt where he explains.

"...At the age of 12, Page seems to have had a pragmatic motive for pulling on a surplice and wailing The Lord's My Shepherd. "In those days it was difficult to access rock'n'roll music," he remembers now, "because after all the riots happened in the cinemas, when people heard Rock Around the Clock in the film Blackboard Jungle, the authorities tried to lock it all down. So you needed to tune in to the radio or go to places where you could hear it. It just so happened that in youth clubs they would play records and you'd get to hear Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis and Ricky Nelson - but you had to either go to church or be a member of the choir to go to the youth club."

The full article may be found at http://forums.ledzeppelin.com/index.php?/topic/14152-jimmy-page-sunday-times-interview/page-2?hl. I scanned it onto post no.39.

The sweet little lambkins... hey, I thought JP said his parents didn't go to church. Wonder how/why he ended up in the choir.

  9. SAJ,

It is on page 414 of the UK edition. And from there you can see the relevance of what I said to you in my above post.

    [Jimmy talking about Knebworth]

"I didn't feel very happy at all, and I wasn't well on the second weekend. For me it was that thing of getting families in position. My parents had split up and they both had different families, so one was coming one weekend and the other the next..."

I do not have the Hoskyn's book. Can you post the quote in question?

  10. DD,

Let's just hope that MT's management were able to negotiate a decent fee for the appearances he has made this time round with the Stones. I would have like to have seen him utilised more on the tour. I still think it is sad that he has deteriorated so much physically due to his drink and drugs problems. If I were shown photographs of him without being told his name, I wouldn't have recognised him.

    That's good to know.

  11. SAJ,

The claim many not be that peculiar. Do you remember in Hoskyns' book where Jimmy is quoted talking about his parents' divorce? Well, Darren may be the offspring of whoever Mr and Mrs Page subsequently married (not sure if Mrs Page remarried, but it looks like Mr Page did). It certainly looks like Jimmy has a half-sister called Karen Page Errington. If you go to Scarlet Page's Photography page on Facebook (Go to Photos, then 2012, 2nd photo from the left), there is a photograph where Ms Page Errington comments on one of Scarlet's photos. If you then look at KPE's own Facebook page, she is displaying a photograph of her late father - it's the same man whom we believe to be Jimmy's father on the basis of photos taken backstage at Knebworth. Indeed, she is currently displaying a photo of Jimmy. It does not appear to be some fantasy claim on Ms Page Errington's part, because you will notice that various friends offer her condolences and talk about her father. Also, her comment of 6 July bears out that they are half-brother and sister.

While the claim is certainly peculiar (perhaps he meant second cousin...twice removed) Jimmy's handwriting and signature appear to be authentic.

  12. There was an article to this effect in the Daily Mail a couple of years ago, the link to which I have posted in earlier in this thread. You will see in this thread that Nutrocker has informed me that both Mick Taylor, MT's management and the diehard Stones fans are dismissing it as 'bullshit'.

    Isn't he?

  13. A,

It looks like bananas in his basket - I can't make out the rest. It is the selection of chocolate bars that he is looking at.

^ I know what you mean. I shared this a long while ago from one of my rare Zeppelin books. ;)

This was shared in the 'On the Town' thread but not here. I wish I could see better what he's buying. :D

  14. Melanie,

Here's wishing you and hubby a very enjoyable trip to Chicago.

I had a great birthday yesterday, I treated myself to a new tattoo as a b-day present to myself and now my hubby and I are off to Chicago! Without kids!! :D

Have a great weekend Zep friends!

  15. Neither me, nor anyone else on this site needs a history lesson from you. I studied the history of empire at Honours level at university. This thread was started by a friend of mine for us to send good wishes to US site members as a mark of respect for one of their National Holidays - nothing more. If you take a look at the first post on this thread, you will see the spirit in which the thread was started.

I do not know what country you reside in, but the whole idea of "July 4" and "Independence Day" in America is the fact that the original 13 colonies rebelled against the harsh rule, oppression and taxes that was imposed on by the British Empire.

So, to some degree, the whole aspect and meaning of July 4th, 1776, is the fact the America's founding Fathers refused to be subjugated and forced to live under the dominance (at the time) of the British empire.

So a "who won the war" quote is very relevant in this case. If the British had won the "Revolutionary" war, then the United States of America would not exist as I know and Love from the years of 1777 to the present day.

It seems like Destiny that the United States of America is the way (and shape) that it is today, geographically. From sea to shining sea (actually from ocean to ocean).
