I am not surprised Mike Trout is hurt. He's been injured every season for the past four years. He is the Ken Griffey, Jr. of this generation. Great player but won't get a whiff of the World Series. And now his contract is an albatross just as Albert Pujols was to the Angels.

Sweet Gloria Grahame double-feature last week.
Saw the brand new 70mm print of "The Searchers" at the Egyptian last Sunday. One of my favourite John Ford/John Wayne westerns. Looks and sounds incredible. Always touching to see John Wayne honour his deceased pal Harry Carey in the last scene by cradling his arm just like Harry used to do. Ward Bond, Vera Miles, John Qualen, Natalie Wood, Hank Worden, and many John Ford regulars pop up in the cast. Ken Curtis, who plays 'Charlie McCorrie', would go on to play 'Festus' on the tv show "Gunsmoke".
A silly double-bill this past Monday at the New Beverly thart I surprisingly enjoyed...especially the first movie, 1976's "Drive-In", set at a drive-in in a small Texas town. I could see Richard Linklater seeing this movie as a kid and using it as a kind of template for his "Dazed and Confused". The best thing about "Hot Stuff" was Suzanne Pleshette and Jerry Reed.

Can people just stop with this Tom Brady coming out of retirement, nonsense. As great as he was, I doubt that someone seriously wants to see Tom--who's pushing 50 I believe--taking snaps under center...
Who is putting this speculation out there?

yesterday my wife( who is recovering from kidney cancer, kidney and tumor removed march 14) and I got to go to a wedding tasting filling in for my daughter and future son in law who were traveling to texas for business, anyways suffice to say we tried everything from appetizers to some of the main dishes of beef, chicken fish and pasta not to mention an assortment of shot sized drinks! My wife would take small bite and drank a sip and I would gladly drink the rest, fantastic time, she wrote down all her notes with ratings to give to the kids, decisions decisions decisions 😄
Sounds like an exciting happy time. Hope the guy proves worthy of your daughter.

Looking up the astronomical charts for 1970 shows that the sun set in Bath at 9:30pm on June 28, 1970. Even allowing for how the camera usually makes it seem lighter than it really is...I remember when Tiger Woods was playing in near-dark conditions even though it still looked like the sun was out watching on TV...it seems obvious that the band went on some time before sunset, probably around 8:30pm. Still a great story, if slightly apocryphal.

It is a shame Norm McDonald wasn't alive to rejoice yesterday. But it's also a shame Nicole and Ron aren't still alive. More proof that life isn't fair.
Before the verdict.
After the verdict.

While listening to a bunch of versions of Celebration Day from 1971, I realized it is my favorite song the band played in 1971. That made me think about which songs I like the best from the rest of the years. Here’s my list. What’s yours?
1969 - As Long As I Have You
1970 - SIBLY
1971 - Celebration Day
1972 - Heartbreaker
1973 - No Quarter
1975 - Dazed and Confused
1977 - Achilles Last Stand
1980 - Trampled Underfoot
Pretty interesting list, Steve. I am with you on "Celebration Day"...I frequently binge on "Celebration Day" from 1971. I wish they had kept that song in that arrangement for the 1972 tour. I would have died to hear that at the Forum or Long Beach Arena in 1972. Not that I am scoffing at the 1973 "Celebration Day"...it was quite a treat to hear that and it gave the concert a real power surge coming after "Rock and Roll" like that.
But the 1971 CDs, with Plant's voice still intact and with Jimmy playing it on the 12-string and going wild in the outro solos and with Jones and Bonzo going thermonuclear on the rhythm, are on a whole 'nother level.
