  1. From the Louisville Gore Club page. What hasn't been said about Roger Corman. This one is devastating. There would be no drive-ins if it weren't for you. There would be no Vincent Price without you. There would be no famous monsters of filmland if it weren't for you. There would be no 1960's Gothic Horror if it weren't for you. There would be no Lovecraft movies if it weren't for you. There would be no punk rock in movies if it weren't for you. There would be no motorcycle movies if it weren't for you. There would be no heart in the genre if it weren't for you. There would be no Francis Ford, Lucas, Spielberg, Nicholson, Demme, Dick Miller, Sybil Danning, Ron Howard, Dante, Penelope Sherris, Tina Hirsch, Jack Hill. And so many more. There would be no us without you. REST IN PICTURES, Roger Corman. https://variety.com/2024/film/news/roger-corman-dead-producer-independent-b-movie-1235999591/amp/
  2. BBQ brisket, baby back ribs, rib tips, baked beans, greens, cole slaw, corn bread, Hefeweissen beer.
  3. Hmmm...don't think I've seen that one. Two for Mother's Day at the New Beverly Cinema. Pre-show cartoon was a Disney Silly Symphony "The Ugly Duckling". The artwork in "Sleeping Beauty" was breathtaking.
  4. Fucking hell! I bet this was amazing. Besides a truckload of Sonic Youth concerts, I have been to several of Thurston's free-form events...some were solo, some with people like Nels Cline or Jim O'Rourke. I hope someone was recording this night with John Paul Jones.
  5. Whenever "The Good, the Bad & the Ugly" is playing, it's a good excuse to round up your buddies and go. Especially if Tarantino is showing a nice IB Technicolor print. The pre-show cartoon was the 1948 Merrie Melodies "Bugs Bunny Rides Again" directed by Friz Freleng. In the lobby was a display case of Clint Eastwood movie-related items, including the hat Lee Van Cleef wore in "The Good, the Bad & the Ugly". "When you have to shoot, shoot...don't talk!"
  6. I have a French and Belgian poster for this movie. Veronica Lake was one of the few actresses around that could make Alan Ladd seem like a giant. Veronica was less than 5' while Alan was 5'6".
  7. It's only May so I'm not getting too excited about the Dodgers' start. And you shouldn't get too discouraged red. Stranger things have happened. Let's see if the Dodgers' hot streak continues or if the Giants or someone else gets on a roll. The standings could look very different come August.
  8. With the Kings out I am pulling for the Bruins now. Good luck. 🤞
  9. Ignore him. He could be standing in the middle of a Biblical 40 days and 40 nights storm but would not believe it was raining unless Trump told him so.
  10. Damn. Steve Albini is dead from a heart attack at only age 61. Big Black. Shellac. Producer on albums by the Pixies, Nirvana, PJ Harvey, Low, and Page & Plaht ("Walking Into Clarksdale"), among many others. Steve and Shellac were just getting ready to tour their first new album in ten years. Sad day. R.I.P. https://pitchfork.com/news/steve-albini-storied-producer-and-icon-of-the-rock-underground-dies-at-61/
  11. The uniform of the dimwitted, entitled "protester".
  12. Sunday dinner: Country fried steak, mashed potatoes and country gravy, spinach, corn on the cob, coleslaw, green salad, biscuits, beer. Blueberry cobbler and coffee for dessert.
  13. I thought there was more than one guy reviewing at that site? I know gsparanzo seemed to do most of the Led Zeppelin reviews but I seem to recall other bylines. If the demise is true, it's a sad, sad day. Underground Uprising and Collectors Music Reviews were two of the first places I discovered upon my initial forays on the internet looking for bootleg information. Now both are gone. R.I.P.
  14. I am not surprised Mike Trout is hurt. He's been injured every season for the past four years. He is the Ken Griffey, Jr. of this generation. Great player but won't get a whiff of the World Series. And now his contract is an albatross just as Albert Pujols was to the Angels. https://theathletic.com/5465868/2024/05/02/mike-trout-angels-trade-value/
