  1. The 1975 boards do sound amazing.   The 1977 boards sound more like the 1973 boards.

Sure hindsight is 20/20 and we’ll never know for sure but the ‘73 & ‘77 could possibly have sounded better with just a few simple settings.   Maybe they were recorded with normal bias tapes which would not have as much top end as a Chrome or Metal bias cassette.  Or they were recorded with Chrome cassettes but the bias setting was set to normal and not Chrome.  Anyone who was a big cassette person knows these little things can affect the frequency range.

I was a taper for years and love audience tapes but it’s funny how people whine about having these boards.  We’re lucky as hell to have any of them!

    1. Have to disagree. Gimmie gimmie gimmie does not apply here. No one asked for anything more than what the man himself said was in the offering by the end of last year. Now, that ship has sailed.

    2. I'm a member of RO.com and the record there shows I never believed BlackSwag for a moment on that. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

You’re a great collector and I do enjoy reading your comments- my earlier posts- I was just having a little fun. :)

    This 100% :goodpost:

Wow another smart patient member on the Internet.   It’s one year into a 10 year plan and we’ve gotten books and guitars and unreleased singles of “Friends” etc etc.

Let’s say there are only a few live releases left...would you rather have them all come out tomorrow and then nothing ever again?   Or have some interesting things come out here and there and also some big live releases added in every couple years for a 10 year span?

Heck they only released their official albums for ten years when they were a young active band...give it time...

Jimmy said “10 years” (or a 10 year Celebration of a “10 year” career) not “I’ll release everything tomorrow for the 50th anniversary...”

  4. I was doubtful...and maybe it’s because I’ve been a fan since I was a kid many many years ago, but I still believe we’ll be getting more fun stuff like books and guitar remakes and eventually - more live releases.

And yes I’ve whined about more live releases and wanting them NOW, but guy and girls, be patient Jimmy said over the next 10 years.

We are experiencing a total Mr. Freezer description...gimmie Gimmie GIMMIE - it’s the 50th now!!

Jimmy is in his Golden Era and is probably enjoying his life’s work and we’ll get that live release - seeing pictures of Jimmy Page repainting his Dragon tele??!?  Does one here “get it?”

Am I the only one saying “Go Jimmy- GO!!”   In 1980 imagine seeing pictures of Jimmy painting the Dragon Tele yet today we whine when seeing those pictures with our own personal agendas...

So sit back and enjoy everything he’s giving us.

(At least he isn’t outright lying to us like that dude BlackSwag from RO.com and saying we’re getting a ‘68 live release by last Nov. and every member there drank the Kool-aid and it turned out to be fake).

Looks to me like Jimmy is giving us everything we always wanted...just not according to YOUR timeline which is fucking with you all hard.

I'm curious what type of money are we talking about? If someone had a soundboard of an unreleased show or source, how much would the taper expect to get from EV and other labels?

In 1995, they were paying $1000 COD for an unreleased audience tape.   So Id guess $5000-$10000 for an unreleased board tape.

Was this Destroyer set the soundboard from the 27th (which cuts in during TSRTS and has a cut in the middle of No Quarter) or the audience recording of the 28th (which has the taper saying "oh fuck!" and is cut between songs)? Imho, this new audience recording, while inferior, is not that huge of a step down. And we had an inkling it would be inferior anyway based on the description from AA. Given how this Black Beauty sample has been botched up (overly compressed/equalized, etc.) I would think the 24/96 version sounds better. I'm just happy we now have pretty much the entire show.

I’ve been collecting since about 1983-85, yes it was the Red Box set “The Destroyer” with special thanks to “Cookie Crumb” and was out before any tape source was in trading circles that had Stairway with the “oh fuck” comment.

Ive also taped shows since 1987 (Pink Floyd at MSG).

The original source was taped up close in the sound field and has so much power.  This new source no matter how the transfer was done sounds like it was taped much farther away.   Funny anyone would ever hoard this recording.   I’m not being snobby or anything.   But facts dont lie - the original source is fantastic and the new source is average.

  7. I was at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs training and I would walk to various record stores near the facility in about 1985.   I bought a Houses of the Holy jukebox ep at one store and they also had the original red box Destroyer set.  I asked to hear a sample and the guy put on The Song Remains The Same and the quality floored me.    I bought the set for $50.    Super great power and ambience.

I heard this new source and although it’s neat and less chopped up it is miles behind the original source.   All this talk about it for years now and one listen and it’s meh.

  8. About ten years ago a guy who goes by Zepp4life post some screen shots and video clip on Royal-Orleans.com.   You could see it was shot in the floor about 50 rows back center.   It showed the stage and you could clearly see the screen.   Looked really nice

Thrn the guy took everything down and never shared it.

I think the writer of that review was pretty stoned. "Four Sticks"? Really? That seems a stretch for Plant to do that song in 1973.

The writer has many songs out of order...giving the impression that the band finished the main set with "Dazed and Confused".

Unless we are to believe that out of all the 1973 shows, Led Zeppelin decided to do things radically different in Atlanta.

It’s not so bad....I’ve seen way worse reviews where you’re like “we’re they actually at that show...”.  Lmfao!

I would go with this, plus, Tampa was rained out and high winds were present so even if they wanted to use video screens they likely would have taken them down prior to the show for safety reasons.

Oakland... I have seen quite a lot of pics of both gigs and never saw any video screens.

That’s one possible video that never gets talked about: Atlanta 1973.

I’d say there is as much chance for this existing as Pontiac 1977.    And more so than all other fabled 1977 videos.

The (possible) Atlanta 1973 video really needs to be researched.

  11. It’s possible screens weren’t used in Tampa or Oakland because they were outdoor shows that started in daylight.

I realize the 1973 Atlanta show had screens but that seems to be the only outdoor US show to use screens.  They also played in Outdoor stadiums in Tampa, San Francisco and Pittsburg in 1973 and no screens were used for those.  Perhaps after Atlanta 1973 they didn’t think the screens were worth it for outdoor shows because of the quality of the image?

  12. I agree with what you guys said.   Too bad Page doesn’t put out a Historical Series where the audio quality isn’t as important and he could release all the early soundboards he has.

I’ll be happy if South Hampton gets a professional release ONLY if he releases the Japan shows and others as well

He also said he was checking outa D and C from 73.

    Where did he mention HMMT/CB?

I’m not bothered as long as EV release the Japan soundboard. Because let’s face it, Jimmy will cut out all the medleys anyway.

True about Jimmy cutting everything but at this point he’s doing better because EV has only released one song.  Lol.

Jimmy has only mentioned a 1973 Dazed, not HMMT/CB.

The 71 U.K. shows might stand up to Japan if the recordings were decent. The Wembley Empire Pool show has one of the best Stairway solos, but man is that recording bad.

Manchester is awesome and so is Bournemouth.    Several other too.

These UK 1971 shows also festured Gallows Pole on occasion too.
