The re-play of The OneFund concert in Boston. 'Boston' is playing now. No Brad Delp, but what a great sound...
planted,
Is this on tv or online?
-
What are your thoughts on Ginger Baker? He's definitely in Bonham's league, I'd say.
Great Drummer.. more jazzy than John Bonham. looser feel. tinny drum sound..
I don't like him near as much as Bonham. But, he was someone John admired a great deal and he was influenced by Baker so yeah I'd put him up there...
-
I've heard it a million times... I love Bill Ward but I would never put him in John Bonham's league.
-
That would be ridiculous.
But I'd say Bill is right up there with Bonzo.
Respectfully disagree.. Bill Ward can be very erratic.
I'd put Ian Paice up there though..
-
ledzepfilm.. You mis-read what I posted.
Bill Ward himself said that about Bonham's right foot...
-
I'm listening to it now, and I honestly think it's not an exceptional drumming performance. I'm sure Amstel will back me up on this one.
As for the backing vocals, I agree. They're way too out-of-place.
I didn't say exceptional..
-
Drum sound? I'd definitely agree. Jason's kick drum is no match for the master's.
"I don't think there's anyone that can match Bonzo's right foot."
Bill Ward

I'm not saying his performance at that particular gig was foul or anything, but I have to say he wasn't able to get the right drum sound.Exactly what did you like in Jason's drumming on GTBT?
The Tom work, the cowbell.. He did fine..not stellar.
The backing vocals bugged the crap out of me though.
-
Double kick = cheating.
For playing Zeppelin, yes I'd agree.. I saw an absolutely amazing drummer one time.. this guy could play incredible stuff, but he used the double pedal for GTBT and yes I was disappointed.
But, someone like Scott Travis has made Double Bass such an important, incredible part of their sound it stands on its own.
Honestly, Jason's performance at the O2 wasn't exactly stellar.
Just listen to GTBT. It's not a good drumming performance.
His drumming was fine..But, I must say his backing vocals on GTBT were annoying as hell....
"I wouldn't say that. Do I prefer him over Bonzo? No. But he was the man who was meant for the job and he did it well."
agree 100% if is was to be anyone but Bonzo, it should be his son.

1/10th of 200 million is 20 million. Eric Clapton has sold approximately 40 to 50 million albums, an astounding figure for a blues guitarist.
How many of those 40 - 50 million sold were the Blues standard "I Shot The Sheriff"?
He's very talented and has had great success ... even without the duck walk and lasers.
Peter Greene is a blues purist.. Eric Clapton has dabbled in *gasp* pop, rock .. and Michelob..
This certainly helped his mainstream success in the process..not a knock either.

from blabbermouth...and classic rock...
According to Classic Rock magazine, WHITESNAKE frontman David Coverdale wants to personally apologize to Robert Plant for the "ugly things" he said about the LED ZEPPELIN singer nearly two decades ago.
Plant and Coverdale famously traded verbal jabs after the former DEEP PURPLE vocalist teamed up with LED ZEPPELIN guitarist Jimmy Page for the short-lived 1993 COVERDALE-PAGE album and tour,
In interviews at the time, Plant openly expressed his disdain for theWHITESNAKE singer, referring to him as "David Cover-version."Coverdale was equally vitriolic in his response, saying about the LED ZEPPELIN frontman, "There's certainly no love lost between myself andRobert… I wouldn't send him cat food if he was starving."
During an interview set to be broadcast next Wednesday (June 19) onTeamRock Radio's "Classic Rock Magazine Show", Coverdale offered an olive branch to Plant.
"My last words to Jimmy in London were: 'I'd love to buy Robert a drink,'"Coverdale told "Classic Rock Magazine Show" host Nicky Horne. "I said, 'When you speak to him, offer my sincere regrets for any negative things I've ever said, which were mostly defensive.'"
Coverdale continued: "I hold him [Plant] in the highest esteem as a human being, and as an artist, and I really would like to, you know, sit down, buy him a drink, shake hands and say: 'I'm really sorry," you know, "Can we be friends again?'
“[Out of] my love and respect for Jimmy, I know he'll pass that on to Robert — and Robert might go and tell him to [expletive] himself, who knows, but I don't hold any animosity, just disappointment in myself that I took the bait and ran with some ugly things. Because it's not appropriate for somebody I respect so much." -
Chase,
heartfelt thanks for posting this.
Wish they'd tour the UK.
My pleasure kenog.

Here's a rough copy of The Tonight Show appearance.
Nice to see that Howard Leese from Heart is still in the touring lineup.

I was shocked to see Paul Rodgers last night with the band. I was thinking for sure they'd have someone else. They sounded great and I loved the tall leg piano Rodgers played where he didn't have to sit down. So glad they're back. :^)
I don't think Bad Company would ever play without Paul Rodgers again..
They do a nice tribute to Boz every night... at least they did on the last tour.
The play(ed) Gone Gone Gone which Boz wrote as a dedication.

I see your point. What you posted was relevant, and you're free to express your opinions. But, honestly, if you disliked Led Zeppelin, would you post about it in a Led Zeppelin fan thread? If you say, "I don't like Eric Clapton because of this" in a Eric Clapton fan thread, some people are going to get defensive.
Well if I went on ericclapton.con and started a "Jimmy Page is the greatest living Guitarist" thread.....not all responses would be positive. How can you expect this..? The cover of the Mojo article I referenced is in this thread ... 1 page back...
Maybe I should have let his comments speak for themselves, but I am sick of the 3 members of Cream always bashing Led Zeppelin... Eric Clapton is actually the least critical... Bruce and Baker are very bitter..
-
Eric's a blues purist and always has been. I can understand why he felt Led Zeppelin's blues were not authentic. Keith Richards doesn't like Led Zeppelin either. Regardless, this particular thread is meant to honor Eric and his music, not debate the merits of Led Zeppelin. You've got hundreds of more appropriate Led Zeppelin threads to choose from for that. For those who may find 90% of Eric's music boring don't bother posting to a thread meant to honor him.
Steve, with all due respect, you can't create a thread and then tell people what they can and can't post on it...especially when it is from a very recent interview.
But I will bow out at this point.
I didn't realize I had to honor Slowhand to post here.

the chase, what did you think you would accomplish by posting that quote? You're just going to start an argument about who's better, Cream or Led Zeppelin. In my opinion, I think that Led Zeppelin was a better band overall than Cream, but that doesn't mean that Cream wasn't awesome as well. Led Zeppelin had their style, and Cream had theirs.
So, Eric Clapton doesn't particularly like Led Zeppelin. I do. No big deal, I still enjoy Clapton's music immensely. Obviously Clapton didn't dislike Led Zeppelin enough to not play Stairway to Heaven with Jimmy on the ARMS tour in the 80's.
It accomplished me posting something that bothers me about Eric Clapton.
If it doesn't bother you ... no big deal.
That he doesn't like Led Zeppelin is secondary. I find it very pompous of him to think he could have stopped an entire movement in music because HE stops doing it... That Jimmy Page had the nerve to put together a Heavy band. It's bullshit.
Since when do people not post things here that they have an issue with?
Even if it's about the amazingly amazing Eric Clapton.
The quote is from a recent article from an issue of Mojo currently on magazine racks ... so it's relevant.
-
Eric Clapton, interviewed by Mojo Magazine,
"Speaking of which, you're not a big fan of Led Zeppelin. Why?"
" I couldn't take the high-pitch singing. There wasn't much about Zeppelin that I liked. It's never been easy to dissociate myself from the political connections that when Cream folded, Led Zeppelin came along. My part of walking away from Cream was to dismantle that aspect of music. I thought that I had that much power that I could make that kind of music go away, just by leaving the band. Sure enough, something of that ilk came right through the door. I wanted everything to sound like The Band from then on...."Stupid reasons if you ask me.. But it's probably just as stupid that I never was that big a Clapton / Cream fan because of this crap.. That and the fact that 90% of his music bores me to tears..
Eric Clapton wanted it to all stop because HE didn't want to do it anymore ... well guess what? It didn't happen. Besides Zeppelin had more style, variety and a better overall sound than Cream ever did..

IMO... Greatest Metal band ever.... and proud to be considered Metal..
Some bumps in the road.. Turbo, Ram it Down,, But Painkiller more than made up for it.

Today, May 16th marks the 3 year Anniversary of the passing of the amazing Ronnie James Dio.. Remember to play some Dio era Black Sabbath / Heaven and Hell, Dio, Rainbow, or Elf today..

Happy Mother's Day to all of the lovely Mom's on Ledzeppelin.com.. and to all of our own Mothers..

^ Agreed, but looking past that at this point!
And Brad Wilk SOUNDS PRETTY DAMN GOOD.
Brad Wilk is a great choice.. Matt Cameron would have been too.
Bill Ward backed out on them ... and not the 1st time either.
He would have made a fortune.. I'm done feeling bad for him.
What are you watching on TV now?
