  1. I agree the album version is pretty Damn good!

Jimmy's loss of control Was never more evident than the Live Aid concert.

He took a guitar that was totally out of tune and proceeded to play sloppy and unrehearsed in front of a world wide audience of adoring fans. Unbelievable.

A Jimmy Page of earlier and healthier days would have never even approached a concert of that magnitude without rehearsals and well tuned guitars.

Live Aid and the Atlantic anniversary concerts were Jimmy at his most careless.

  2. I recommend watching "It Might Get Loud" for a reference to Jimmy's later virtuosity on the guitar. See how relaxed and easily Jimmy plays the epic chords that he created over 40 years prior.

Jack White and the Edge are awe struck with such Grace and power right before their eyes.

Never count Jimmy Page down and out.

  3. Is Jimmy Page a "sloppy" guitarist?

    Was Michelangelo a "messy" painter?

Was Aliester Crowley a "polite" occultist?

Was Benjamin Franklin a "gentleman" toward his lady friends?

All these questions can be asked of genius....and 9 of 10 can be found lacking.

  4. If you listen to what Page did during the Page/Plant tours of the mid to late 90's anyone can see that Jimmy can play his own music at a very high level. He was on fire during those tours.

He began falling apart with Zeppelin during the down times with Robert's car accident in 1976.He completed Presence so quickly but his addictions probably accelerated the process as well. Hence leading to the train wreck of what was the 1977 tour of the US. Despite a few excellent shows, '77 was a disaster on and off stage for Zeppelin and Jimmy's playing showed every aspect of the toll and recklessness of that year.

  5. I'm not a guitarist so I can't comment on Jimmy's technical or non-technical approach to the guitar.

However I do have a good ear for music and I would categorize Jimmy's playing as "controlled chaos".

Not "Clapton-like" note perfect but not so out of control that the music is unrecognizable.

Sometimes he is (was) in a zone and just god-like incredible and other times he makes you grimace with embarrassment.

Fist raising power or head shaking yikes.

I honestly think his most "recent" genius was seen in the movie "It Might Get Loud". He was so in control and powerful

that even the Edge and Jack White were in awe.

  6. That may be the next generation to come, but it's funny to see how many scifi tools have already been turned into facts.

And if someone would have told me ten years ago that this humble computer would ever allow me to communicate with the TSRTS princess, I wouldn't have believed it either.

Regards from Holland. Absolutely love your art.

    Dream as dreamers do.

Amen...never in my wildest, most far-reaching imagination would I ever

have thought that I would be in touch with Robert's "fantasy" and the vision

of his "Holy Grail"...wow = pinch me but don't wake me!

  7. In regards to the Oakland brawl...violence begets violence - all parties were wrong but esp. Binden, Bonham, Cole, and Grant.

Bonham, as a Band member, had the most to lose - but he was out of control and obviously didn't care. Binden was nothing

but a criminal and thug but under Cole's hire. Peter should have had final say and control of the situation but he just was so burnt

out that he was nothing but a bystander cheering his gorillas on.

Bill Graham was a victim too of their intimidation and crazed in-justice.

Sorry SAJ, there is no justification for animalistic behavior on anyone's part. Especially from a Band member with so much at stake.

  8. In reference to the failure of the 3, Robert's lyrics from Carouselambra:

"...Still in their blissful hallowed mighty sleep,
Unending dances shadowed on the day,
Within their walls, their daunting formless keep,
    Preserved their joy and kept their doubts at bay;
Satan's Legions stood in readiness to lead,
Just turn a coin bring order to the fray,
And everything was soon no sooner thought than deed,
Which nobody seemed to question in any way.

How keen the awry hunter's eye prevails upon the land
To seek the unsuspecting and the weak,
And powerless the fabled sat too smug to lift a hand
    Towards the foe that threatened from the deep;
Who cares to dry the cheeks of those who saddened stand
Adrift upon a sea of futile speech?
And soothe the pain to walk the famous land
Where no one dares Forever ever to reach.

Where was your word, where did you go?
Where was your helping, where was your bow?
Dull is the armour, cold is the day.
Hard was the journey, dark was the way.

  9. I don't think the onus should be on Cole alone. He reported to Peter Grant who had the power to fire the thugs. Unfortunately, Grant was also battling a cocaine addiction at the time.

Very true DD, very true. 1977 Grant bears even more responsibility for the total loss of control of the band's management. Think about it - Grant , Cole, and Page all had

the power to call the shots if one of the others failed in their responsibilities. If Jimmy said "Enough !" that would have been it, same with Grant and Cole.

The common bond with all three was that cocaine and heroin had crept in and taken all of them, the top of the Zeppelin pyramid, captive.

Bonham too was a victim but he needed help from someone in charge - but no one was in any kind of shape to help John or to right the sinking ship. (note Robert's lyrics on

Carouselambra). Richard Cole was simply not up to the security task while under the influence of a powerful drug and neither was Peter or Jimmy.

  10. Virginia, I'm a Connecticut Yankee, and you're a Southern Belle...and your Beauty, then and now, is more than skin deep,

and your presence here is by far the most welcome one of all. If you can only imagine the many, many breaths you stole when

you suddenly appeared on the screen as Robert's " Holy Grail "...mine included.

And now, along with your grace, class, and talent you've stolen them all once again. *) My Fair Lady indeed.

  11. On the '77 tour.Cole was their manager from 1968 up to and including 1979. The band became the world's #1 music attraction in the 70s, so it's kind of unfair to pan Cole.

I'm not panning Richard - at least not until 1977. At that point he was coked out and he had thugs as his security force. He lost control of a very

important part of a successful tourng band like Zeppelin. Security needs to be heavy handed only when there is absolutely no other choice.

Cole just let the animals run the zoo, while the white stuff was running him and, sadly, the band as well.

  12. Speaking only for myself, I would rather these threads not be posted. I would rather just see the pics with a sentence of explanation. It's obvious both Plant and Page have had issues with women; let's hope they've sorted out those issues, perhaps through therapy, and if so, I'm sure Robert Plant would not want to see this thread here. I don't care about this woman and as a woman, I find it almost embarrassing that there are or were women who had nothing going on in their lives and thought the only thing they could do that would be significant would be to have sex with and hang out with famous people.

Well said Scarlet! I hope this thread ends here. It's their own business anyway - not ours!
