  1. Page's tragedy as a musician is that he could not escape the persona he created for himself in the mid-70s - the problem was, who would want to? But then the band ended, and he could not find a vehicle in which to place that persona. Jimmy Page was the person who never left Led Zep. Jones and Plant did not allow their musician impulse and creativity to be so restricted by a persona, hence the diversity of their solo careers. Page has always been reluctant to do anything musically which might be perceived as 'not very Jimmy Page' as defined by that persona. Hence the archivist role, and the attempts to play Zep songs again in various formats and bands.

By persona are you referring to his image or to his style of guitar playing?

  2. Yeah I am skeptical about what I was told honestly I don't know enough about music to judge but waiting this long seems ridiculous if they have a case or think they do

Is their a statue of limitations for civil suits? Clare Torry sued Pink Floyd (and won) over her contribution to The Great Gig in the Sky over thirty years after the release of Dark Side of the Moon. Of course, that case was in the UK and their civil laws are probably different.

  3. It’s not about leaving him out of the will that is not the overriding issue in my mind. John Lennon abandoned his son, walked away from him and ignored him, and that is the vilest and most repugnant thing a man can do to his son. Not only did he abandon him, but John Lennon was known to be publicly violent and belittling towards Julian and that is a separate issue from the abandonment of his son, let alone being left out will on top of the abandonment. John Lennon because of how he died (which was disgusting and inexcusable) has been turned into a saint, and just a casual reading of those who knew him best will tell you he was a violent drinking uncaring hypocrite who was more interested in being stoned. He was a damaged man because of what his father did to him, and he repeated that damage with Julian. From what I have seen, Julian seems to have become a balanced and better man over his father. As you can see I’m a Julian fan!

You made several good points. I've never been a Yoko Ono fan, but I think many John Lennon fans unfairly blame her for Lennon's selfish, uncaring behavior. Lennon CHOSE to leave his first wife, Cynthia, for Yoko. He CHOSE to abandon Julian and to cut him out of his will.

  4. I have always felt it odd for bands to carry on after loosing key members. Are The Who and the Rolling Stones the same bands anymore. Wasn't Plant on the bill when Entwhistle died or have I miss remembered that.

Knowing what they know now would the three reunion shows still have happened.

Rock music is a commercial art form. Therefore, I don't blame any band for carrying on after the death of a key member. Their livelihoods are at stake so if they want to hire a new musician or singer to replace their deceased member I'm okay with it. I'm also okay with rock bands who decide to call it quits when a key member dies or leaves the band for any other reason.

  5. Thank you for posting this, SozoZoso!

It was reported today that a decade ago there were 1,500 survivors present at an anniversary event.

    Today there were 300.

I have had the profound and humbling occasion to meet a survivor of 4 camps, including Auschwitz...he recalls as a young man being in the presence of the monster, Dr Mengele. Imagine that for a second.

The youngest of the remaining survivors are in their seventies now. Very soon the Holocaust will pass out of living memory. When I was a kid, my parents patronized a dry cleaner that was owned by Holocaust survivors though I didn't realize this at the time. It wasn't until the husband died and our local newspaper ran his obituary that I understood why he had a numeric tattoo on his wrist.

  6. IMHO, the decision to call it quits was the best decision the surviving members could make at that time. Other posters have listed the many reasons why it was the right decision. However, I would have been okay with a resurrected Led Zeppelin anytime after Page's Outrider album. I don't think a resurrected Led Zeppelin would have lasted more than a few years but they would have new recorded music that was quite different from the Page/Plant projects.

  7. ... Why doesn't Williams look to a neighbourhood that can accommodate such square footage and save himself a headache...

Good question. If he wants that much square footage he should probably look for a property in one of the outer boroughs or even outside Greater London.

  8. What I find most disagreeable about Williams plans is the addition of a large window overlooking the garden and pool area of the Tower house and the removing of the dividing wall and landscaping between the two houses. That seems like a puposeful intrusion into a neighbor's privacy for no other reason than to invite the controversy that is taking place now.

    I hadn't considered this angle.

  9. I have Nokia Trac Phone that requires a pre-paid card. It can access the Internet and do other things but I only use it for phone calls. I refuse to send or receive text messages. IMO, most people spend way too much time texting and ignore the people who are actually in a room with them while doing so. I guess I'm a Luddite at heart. I stay current with the technology I use in my job but I have little interest in technology for its own sake.

  10. Isn't that Jimmy Page in the background in the photo below? Interesting factoid about him arranging The Yardbirds songs. I hadn't realized he played such a prominent role with them. I assumed that Keith Relf and Jim McCarty ran that band after Paul Samwell-Smith left.

Btw, the guy on the left looks like Alan Clarke, The Hollies' lead singer, while the guy in the middle looking over his shoulder looks like a very young Graham Nash. How did I do Hollies fans?

...and some I don't recall, except the article perhaps...

  11. I took a tip from Nigella Lawson and used my Thanksgiving leftovers to make an Asian turkey salad. I diced up some leftover turkey, shredded some Napa cabbage, diced some scallions and cilantro. I then made a dressing of soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, red pepper flakes, lime juice and canola oil. I tossed the turkey, cabbage, scallions and cilantro with the dressing, sprinkled in a cup of peanuts and voila. I'm eating it with a leftover dinner roll I reheated up then spread with butter and homemade cranberry sauce. Now if only I could find a way to re-purpose the cornbread stuffing. I welcome any ideas about that.
