  1. Thing is, why is Waters' solo career a 'success'? Because he's made a career out of living off his past Pink Floyd glories, to the point of actually advertising his shows as "The Genius Behind Pink Floyd". Ya gotta admit, that's pretty goddamn arrogant, even if does indeed sell yea tickets. Hell, you could even say that, with the recent Wall tours Roger completely sold out his integrity as to what The Wall was all about in the first place (you know, how it wasn't intended to be performed live on a massive scale like the previous three Floyd LPs were). Back in the 80's the only real reason David Gilmour started the Floyd back up again after Waters quit was because as "David Gilmour" he could barely fill small theatres, never mind arenas or football stadiums. Hell, Gilmour's last tour for On An Island was mainly theatres and he even had Richard Wright in the band! I can guarantee you if Roger Waters did a tour where he didn't play one Pink Floyd song he'd have the same problem. Shit, Roger was having problems getting bums on seats on the Pros And Cons tour once Clapton bailed out and the KAOS tours, even though he performed a smattering of Floyd tunes.

I suppose the irony is that these guys really don't give a shit about making money...most of what they make from touring -no matter how big or small the venue- gets donated to various charities anyway. Which is pretty noble, especially when you consider it was mainly David Gilmour who kept Syd Barrett afloat financially all those years.

Gilmour for all intents and purposes has retired (in spite of persistent rumours that he has another solo album on the go). What Roger Waters needs to do at this late date is what the diehard fans have wanted him to do for the last twenty two years now: get off his ass, stop living off his past for a change and do a brand new solo project that isn't a fucking opera based on the French Revolution. It is depressing to think that Amused To Death -one of the best things Roger ever did, including the Floyd IMO- came out in 1992.

Some good points there - excellent post.
  2. Oh please, the lyrics aren't deep or meaningful. "Money...its a gas!"...lol.

You gotta admit that The Pink Floyd are a curious lot. They have about 5 of the most brilliant tunes (Money, Comfortably Numb, Us and Them, Time, Another Brick in the Wall Pt 2) you could ever conjure up but the rest of it is almost laughable or filler. Its like Space Aliens landed, did those 5 songs, and took off again. Waters and Gilmour's solo careers are complete write-offs as well.

I just cant stand the tenor sax and the constant bellering of those women in their tracks.

That said, those 5 songs of Pink Floyd blow Zeppelin out of the sky. Sorry Jimmy, but Gilmours solos in Comfortably Numb clean house.

I think you'll find Roger Waters solo career has been a success, ever tried getting a ticket for his concerts?
  3. When it comes to bikes, 4 things to remember: (1) buy a great helmet (2) invest in ear plugs (3) invest in a back/spine protector and (4) always buy Kawasaki, or Team Green as we call it in the homestead. And maybe 5th, invest in a Muzzy exhaust. I have ridden bikes all my life, great to hear your a fellow traveler! Whatever you are working on with the family for next summer, stay upbeat about it - my son and daughter love vacations and seeing places although I must admit it can be taxing on the pocketbook when they forget that someone is paying for it all. Keep on keeping on GF!

    I still have my 1975 Kawasaki S1B 250 triple.
  4. This song sort of sums up how I view life, the line, "Many times I thought of cutting out, but my heart won't buy it" speaks to me

Charles, give a listen to "In the wee small hours of the morning"

  5. I have decided to join the local leisure centre. Swimming and gym training is in the cards. It's not that I am overweight or out of condition, but I feel that a workout 3 or 4 days a week will just be great. I used to be a gym member and I swam miles when I was younger. Anyway for £30 crisp English notes a month, it is a real bargain. My plan is to cycle ( of course) the 2 miles along the canal and work out for 40 mins. Cardiovascular mainly but with a few weights. Then 40 mins lane swimming. This will compliment my golf which I still do, weather permitting, Tuesday and Thursday. I currently cycle the 5 miles each way to the club. Now where are my gym shoes?

I'm knackered just reading your post!!!!I had to "run" for the bus today on my way home from work, it nearly killed me.

  6. Four nuns have just passed their Theology degrees, they are introduced to the mother superior of the convent they will be staying in. They are told to all meet at the swimming pool for their final assignment. They all duly meet with the mother superior and are told that the swimming pool is filled with holy water, and that what they have done before this day is all forgotten and the parts of their body that have been touched by men/women in a romantic fashion have to be bathed and so cleansed. The first lady stoops down and dips her hand into the water explaining that her boyfriend had held hands with her, the second lady dips her hand into the water and washes her thighs, explaining that her boyfriend had touched her thighs accidentally, the third lady takes off her clothes and dives into the pool and starts swimming, with that the fourth lady runs alongside her and shouts Don't piss in that water, I've got to gargle in it!!!!!
