Uuuugh... Gutted... Cancer can go and fuck right off already.

There was a Leonard Cohen tribute at Massey Hall a while back, and Alan Rickman was one of the presenters. He read a poem. You don't really appreciate that velvety voice and moving, crafted delivery unless you've heard it live.

Great actor, concerned citizen, and caring human being. From many accounts of others who've worked with him, he was committed to his community and very supportive of his fellow actors, tending in particular to the young.

I feel so sad. What a loss. Heaven's gain. Wonder what role he'll play up there. Rehearsal's at 2pm...

I know, I know, I should be around on these forums for often.

I remember reading about Alan Rickman's passing on FaceBook. Truly was gutted too, hearing this awful news. Wonderful actor and a wonderful human being (indeed, from many accounts of others who worked with Alan. All mention his kindness, warmth and great sense of humour....). And yes...., he had THAT voice....

was going to try and say something deeper than what i will, but i guess its all been said by one of the first replys. you cant exactly play a song like whole lotta love with a 'lotta' accuracy and make it sound good. its one of those songs. and i guess that goes for a lot of led zep stuff. youve just gotta throw your pick around the strings.

I suppose I agree, everything about JImmy being sloppy or not has been said in this topic. Yes, I guess that indeed is the thing with many Led Zep songs, they oftem require more "attitude" than flawless technique to make them sound right.....

Ha ha,  for me personally as a hobby guitar player,  that is very hard to accomplish. My teacher is teaching me to play Stevie Ray Vaugn's Pride and joy, I know Stevie Ray did have an incredible technique and still managed to make the songs sound very loose. Ha ha, I do get the chords and notes right, now I have to see if I can play the blues with the right attitude.....(the hardest part....)

  3. Writing as someone who lives up the road from Boleskine House, word on the street - and bear in mind this is a rural area so news travels fast without getting too distorted - is that the very private house owners were, thankfully, not in the house when the fire broke out. The news was greeted with sadness and shock by many local people, especially in the music and arts communities.

The other thing that has been supposed by my local friends is that they would not be surprised that the house could have been arsoned by some of the more staunch and vehement Protestant church members who still hold sway and power up here. Unlikely, perhaps, but given the dark, hateful and sectarian history of certain churches up here, it's not impossible that arson is a cause. Unforgiving, sanctimonious, fire and brimstone-spouting, women-hating, bible-bashing bigots are capable of anything. [I am internet, hear me theorize!].

I look forward to hearing that a more rational cause is pinpointed, because there is a lot of nonsense (albeit spooky fun nonsense) spouted about the whole Boleskine/Crowley affair, mostly by people who don't know what they're talking about, and with too much time on their hands (unlike us fine, procreative folk on forums such as this, ahem!). :)

This seems interesting, thanks for this write up on Boleskine House. So sad that iit has been distroyed in a large fire. I hope the true cause of the fire will be found.......

  4. Just came back from it...........

what can I say without spoiling anything?

Well.......the chemistry between the new actors is excellent, and the new evil dude is indeed a tortured soul (with some issues), also his weird lightsword actually made sense.

John Boyega mastered the drama and also the humor very well, brilliant young actor and an excellent choice as a main character.

Daisy Ridley certainly knew to portray a female with gusto, not very much unlike Carrie Fisher in the original series.

The character played by Andy Serkis is one thing you must have seen, hehe.

Domnhall Gleeson more or less put down believable a space version of Goebbels...gosh that guy has creepy eyes.

The first time you see the Falcon was to me a real WOW!!!! moment....love that ugly thing!

Oh yeah, the performance of Mark Hamill was truly beyond amazing (Somehow reminded me of Jimmy Page).

    BB8 rules (and rolls).

And SAJ should join the First Order (and quit whining about movies he hasn't even seen yet).

Am a moderate Star Wars fan (not a total fanatic, but I do like the movies) and saw The force awakens during my Christmas holiday.

Loved the movie, it was good to see the old gang (Princess Leia, Han Solo, Chubacca, Luke) as well as getting to know the new characters. The overall experience was fantatstic, the only thing that could hae been a bit better was the sory line as it is a lot like the story line form Episode IV, A new hope.......

LOL! Yes, the scene with Mark Hamil also reminded me of Jimmy in his fantasy scene in The song remains the same, as the hermit.

  5. Tonight I will be seeing the Golden Earring. At a club no less, the "Paard van Troje" (Trojan Horse).

This should be special as they usually play much larger venues, festivals, concert halls or arenas. And yes, in the 70's they opened for Led Zep and Aerosmith.....Still a very good band, especially guitarist George Kooymans, that man is great (He's no Jimmy, but still a VERY good guitar player).

  6. -Tonight (wed, Sept 23rd) I will be seeing Guy Davis (accoustic blues). Saw him once before and he is great! Will be small and intimate, as it is a livingroom concert.

-Oct 15th, I will be seeing Golden Earring at lthe egendary "Paard van Troje". Paard van Troje means The Trojan Horse, one my country's most well known music venues, together with Paradiso in Amsterdam.

  7. Happy Friday ladies, alsmost weekend! I haven't been on these forums for a while (have just been busy.....).

  8. Good one! DId you know Golden Earring actually are from The Hague?

By the way, they are still playing, I will see them in October @ the "Paard van Troje" (legendary The Hague music venue).

They are celebrating their 50th aniversary this year (wow...., half a century of creating and performing music together).

  9. PlanetPage, thanks for your contribution:

  10. Well that was quite an unexpected conversation this morning.....

When I came into the officebuilding this morning I waited for the elevator with another colleague, he saw I had my headphones + Iphone in my hands and asked what I had been listening to. When I told him I had been listening to Led Zep, he gave me compliments on my good taste in music and I found out he is also a fan.

  11. The 1959 Fender Telecaster, dubbed the "Dragon Telecaster", has a pretty wild life, although it ended in tragedy.

It was originally purchased in 1961 by John Owen for £107. It soon landed in the hands of Jeff Beck, his bandmate in the pop band, The Deltones. Beck brought the guitar with him to the Yardbirds in 1965 as a backup to his Gibson Les Paul. The original white Bakelite pickguard and switchtip of the Telecaster crumbled off and Beck had replaced it with a homemade black pickguard.

When Beck abandoned the Yardbirds in August 1966, the Telecaster was left behind for Jimmy Page to use (with its original white pickguard). By March 1967, eight reflective circles appeared on the front body of the guitar, perhaps as a nod to Syd Barrett from Pink Floyd, who donned a similar Telecaster inJanuary 1967 for a recording session for the movie Let's All Make Love.

In late 1967, Jimmy Page stripped the Fender Blond paint off and handpainted a green, red and orange psychadelic dragon on the front of the ash body and replaced the pickguard with a pickguard made of clear acrylic with a sheet of diffraction grating film underneath.

Jimmy Page brought the Dragon Telecaster to Led Zeppelin and used it as his primary guitar until late April 1969 when he bought the Gibson Les Paul 'Number One' from Joe Walsh.

In addition, the Dragon Telecaster was used onLed Zeppelin in October 1968 and used for the guitar solo on Stairway To Heaven in late 1970.

In a 1998 Guitar World interview, Jimmy Page said the following about the fate of the Dragon Telecaster.

"I still have it (referring to the Dragon Tele), but it’s a tragic story. I went on tour with the '59 Les Paul that I bought from Joe Walsh, and when I got back, a friend of mine had kindly painted over my paint job. He said, 'Ive got a present for you." He thought he had done me a real favor. As you can guess, I wasn't real happy about that. His paint job totally screwed up the sound and the wiring, so only the neck pickup worked. I salvaged the neck and put it on my brown Tele string bender that I used in the Firm. As for the body... it will never be seen again! (laughs)"

I remember reading this, about the dragon tele. It's a shame, as it was such a cool guitar.

I did come across a website that sells replicas of famous guitars, including JImmy's dragon tele. However, I saw a review of that replica on youtube and it seems the replica is not exactly a good quality guitar..............

    It was this site: http://www.rareelectricguitar.com/Jimmy-Page-Dragon-Telecaster-with-Gloss-Finish-sale_172.html

  12. Here in these lLowlands, we also have Sesame Street, but off course with some different characters.

Other characters are the same, like Bert and Ernie, Grover, the cookie monster, Oscar and Elmo.

Lol! There are still plenty of dutch comedians who from time to time like to do their very best Bert & Ernie impressions......

Over here Big Bird is blue and is called Pino.

We also have a dog and mouse character, the dog is called Tommy and the mouse is called Ieniemienie (never mind, don't even try to pronounce that......).

  13. At least people looked cool unlike todays short back and sides hair, beard, hipster look, they just look like right twats.

What I see these days, is that at least for women, the look of bootcut/bellbottom jeans, floral shirts/blouses/tunics, feathers in the hair, is definately making a return. "Hippy Glam" they're calling it now.
