Robert Plant Performs First Post-Pandemic Concert With Saving Grace
Former Led Zeppelin lead singer took the stage with his new band for the first time since 2019
Robert Plant appeared onstage for his first post-pandemic show on Monday night in Worthington, England, performing with his band Saving Grace for the first time since 2019.
Originally scheduled to tour the U.S. in March 2020, Saving Grace’s plans fell through with the pandemic, and Plant and company are now finishing up the remainder of their United Kingdom shows that were postponed due to Covid.
Onstage, the former Led Zeppelin lead singer was joined by vocalist Suzy Dian, mandolinist and guitar player Tony Kelsey, banjo and guitar player Matt Worley, and percussionist Oli Jefferson for a set that included traditional folk songs and a mix of modern covers, including a rendition of Donovan’s “Season of the Witch.”
Saving Grace’s U.K. tour, which runs through early August, includes several stops in Plant’s home of West Midlands county.
“In the days when I first starting performing around the Black Country, it was very evident that each area was its’ own community/little town … and each community had its own venue: Dudley Town Hall, Stourbridge Town Hall, Regis Hall, Brierley Hill Civic, Old Hill Plaza, Tipton Baths, Queen Mary Ballroom,” Plant said in an interview with Dudley News earlier this month. “I played them all, mostly as a kid opening for the likes of the Hollies, Jean Vincent, Screaming Lord Such, the Fourmost … and others. So, with our band, Saving Grace, it’s for me a bit of a reminiscence to play the various communities from where we all hail.”

It's from BBC Playhouse Theater 6/27/69 but unfortunately that jam of It's Your Thing was cut from the official release. You can hear it on bootlegs or earlier radio broadcasts.

Haven't listened to Dreamland in so long, need to hear that one again. I'd like to have more live stuff released as bonus songs. The full Montreux 93 would be so good as a proper release, on video even better.

It's absolutely fantastic! I'm half-way through now and my GF just asked if I thought they'd cover Zeppelin. I'm hopeful the reason is because of the upcoming doc. There are several things I'm really enjoying 1) the 16MM film footage is absolutely beautiful and 2) they really paid attention to the music. The version of Changes by Bowie is worth it alone. Recommend!
Fantastic? An 8-part series on music in 1971 has ZERO mention of Led Zeppelin and many other bands. Apparently Sly and the Family Stone is the most important band of 1971, lol.
Many of the clips are literally taken from YouTube and in crappy quality. The theory of Zep not being included because of their documentary is nonsense.

It's unwatchable, agenda-driven garbage.

I worked for Jimmy at the mill from 1981 for about 5 years . Amazing time . Mixing tbe last Zepp album coda . Recording the firm and tbe deathwish albums and many other great projects . Mick fleetwood , Bill Wyman . Bad company . Twisted sister . Vandenberg and Elton .
We'd love to hear more about working with Jimmy. Were there any other songs mixed for Coda that didn't make the album?

From Lloyd Godman on Facebook:
On 25 Feb 1972 Led Zeppelin played at Western Springs Auckland NZ . In 2019 I found a forgotten reel of standard 8mm movie film I had shot decades ago and had it digitized. To my surprise there was a forgotten sequence of Led Zeppelin at Western Springs Auckland. 1972. In 2020 I was contacted by Jude Row from NY who worked with Eric and synced the silent film with a recording from the Auckland concert. We will be releasing this on youtube 25 Feb 2021 exactly 49 years later - so keep your eyes open. The photos are a couple of screen shots from the film.

Sounds good. I think Bring It On Home was recorded on the road so it would have probably been a Marshall or HiWatt? If you want to try to capture his Vox sound, try doing Whole Lotta Love.

Midnight screenings back in the day were legendary. By this time in '86 the party moved to our homes watching it on the small screen.

Are you aware that tapers can (and indeed in the past, have) get frightened off by drawing too much attention to a potential lead like this?
Put yourself in this guy's shoes: you have an unheard tape of Zeppelin. You post a teaser which gains little traction on YouTube while you search for the remainder of it. Then it gains traction on a Zeppelin fansite, and suddenly you get a flurry of comments from so called "experts" with months of audio engineering experience who tell you that they (and only they) know how to properly transfer the tape. They bombard you with email addresses to contact them, and pretty soon, you don't know who to trust. You don't know who is legitimate and who is merely out for glory. Then you start thinking maybe you should hold on to the tape after all. Or you send it to the wrong guy and BANG! Your tape is hopelessly mangled or butchered beyond repair.
Now maybe I'm overreacting and maybe nothing will result from this. But it is unwise to draw more attention to something like this. Because the more eyeballs you put on this, the more likely it is that a scenario like the one I outlined above becomes a reality.
I'm sure you didn't have any ill intentions and just thought this would be cool to share. But unfortunately, this can have unfortunate consequences and I think NegativeCrepe just wants to make you aware of that.
I'd say more tapers have been turned off by the elitist, circle-jerk clique attitude of some collectors, like has been on display in this thread. Surprising this still occurs in 2021. We'd be a lot further along as a fan community without this b.s.

You are mistaken. Maybe you have some wax build-up in your ears. Try q-tips.

These sort of things can be very touch and go and publicizing even a sample could potentially screw up all the work that’s being put into working with the owner of the original recording.
Are you aware this was publicly released by the taper himself and he also publicly stated he can't find the rest of it, though he would try and look for it. Why can't this one song be circulated & enjoyed here or anywhere else, Sir Royal Highness of Rare Tapes? Your ego? So everyone needs your permission when a taper himself releases their own recording, lol.

Something new.......... This is apparently the only existing fragment of an audience recording from Hollywood, Florida, Sept. 1, 1971 - Black Dog.
