For those who are interested, here's a sample of the stereo version of the remastered Seattle '77 soundtrack. It's the main jam during a really enjoyable version of No Quarter:

Steve this sounds fantastic as always.  Looking forward to the full show.  Thanks again for all your contributions to the music.

  2. Your post got me to go back and listen to Seattle 77 Kashmir.  It is very good.  I usually think of what is wrong with the Seattle 77 show so that has colored my view over the years.   But listening to Kashmir alone I can hear how good it was.

I prefer the 1977 keyboard sound to 1979.  It is difficult to compare the vocals because Plant's approach in 1977 was so different than in 1979, and they are both fantastic in their own right.

Thanks for getting me to revisit the Seattle 77.  A good one!

I just started watching the Padres/Twins game & one smart decision the Mets front office made was not paying out a huge contract to Carlos Correa....

Given the cheating in 2017 any Astro stats from that year are suspect.   In 2017 Correa hit a career high .315.  HIs career avg is .276 and it is only .270 with 2017 not included.

Altuve fared about the same.  In 2017 he hit .346.  His career avg is .307, and .303 if you do not include 2017.

So for both of them, the 2017 avg was .039 higher than the career avg.

They are the two Astros cheaters from 2017 who had the largest benefit from cheating.

  4. A few other versions to consider.

Kashmir - 6/21/77.  Plant is over the top and the band is on fire.  Perhaps the peak of Zeppelin mania in the US.

No Quarter- so different from tour to tour.  If I had to choose one it might be LA 3/27/75.  Another strong contender for me is LA 6/23/77.

Finally, Celebration Day.  Yes 1973 is great but check out the many fine soundboard versions from 1971.  Toronto, Osaka, Hampton, etc.  A very different experience from the 1973 versions.  Definitely more energetic and exciting.

    3. How Many More Times - Surely has to be the 1969 Denmark TV performance?

YES indeed.  Every dimension is at its peak.   The bass, the drums, the vocals, the guitar solo is out of this world.  He even tosses in a glimpse of Over Under Sideways Down.  Then we have the unique bow segment with a very psychedelic bass line behind it.  I like this bow segment better than the ones in Dazed.  Special mention must be given to Jones' bass tone.  Fantastic!

  6. Gibsonfan159 thank you again for these reviews.  I have listened to this show (6/23/77) many times over the years, but not recently.  Your review encouraged me to dig out No Quarter and listen anew.  Such a great version.  Parts of it I remembered quite, well but other parts were a revelation all over again.  It was your description of the last sections after about 21:00 that had gotten me to listen again.  Amazing stuff.  Cheers.

  7. If you had told me in 1975 that a Zeppelin song would be played on an NFL TV broadcast I would have said you were crazy.  If you told me it would be Custard Pie I would have said you were really crazy.  During the SF-Seattle game Fox played Custard Pie in the transition to a commercial.

  8. I recently rewatched the 1990 MTV Rockumentary and was reminded that some Seattle 77 footage is in that.  The video and audio quality is better than any other version I have seen.  The band must have supplied or at least approved its use.  There is a note on the screen saying "live unmixed sound", a kind of disclaimer.  But the footage is very good.  So at least the band approved that use of snippets.

  9. I saw Buddy Miller open for EmmyLou Harris in around 2003 in a small theatre.  Buddy was great on his own then he played with EmmyLou for the whole set.  His album Midnight and Lonesome had been released the year before.  It was a fantastic show all around.

Glad to see Plant doing these types of things.  He is a real student of many types of music.

  10. Steve thanks so much.  This sounds great.  I think that the cut in Wanton Song is one of the great tragedies in music recording, right up there with the cut in Heartbreaker at RAH 1970.  The bass in Wanton Song here is so incredible.  The tones he gets on those bridge parts, especially leading up to the guitar solo.  My goodness.  You can certainly see where some Zooma and Thunderthief tracks came from all those years later.  The immensity and intensity of Jones' bass playing continues to amaze me to this day.  He is without peer.
