Bonham was a man of many faces. Not only looked different each year, but sometimes within the same tour.

Zep, Rush, Pink Floyd, and Ozzy have always been my top four rock groups, although I can't listen to much beyond "Signals". I've never understood people's comparison of them to Zep. I just don't hear it. Nothing on their first album sounds remotely like Zep. Two totally different styles IMO.

Picked up Van Morrison's "Tupelo Honey" on vinyl. Why have I not listened to his albums before?
-
I used to have favorite bands, but as I've gotten older I've seemed to lose a lot of interest in the older stuff.
Even with my favorite groups there are only certain albums I can listen too.
Rush- Anything up to Signals. After that, they weren't the same group to me.
Ozzy- First two albums, The Ultimate Sin, No More Tears, and Ozzmosis.
The Rolling Stones- Sticky Fingers, Exile On Main St.
Pink Floyd- I indulged in all their albums heavily as a teen, but now The Wall and The Final Cut are the only two I can tolerate, unless I'm wanting to hear a specific track.
Lynyrd Skynyrd- The Ed King albums. (Sorry Steve, R.I.P.)
Dream Theater- Train Of Thought (Loved this album but can't stand any others).
Megadeth- Youthanasia (I'm a metalhead, and this is the only album of theirs I've really liked).
Iced Earth- The Barlowe albums.
Metallica- Everything up to Load.
Morbid Angel- All the 90s albums.
Van Halen- First two albums. (Humans Being, from the Twister soundtrack).
Then there are bands that I can just throw anything on by them and listen- Creedence, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Old Crow Medicine Show, The Stanley Brothers, Mozart.

Threw on the old original vinyl of TSRTS soundtrack. I gotta say, I think it's a better live album than HTWWW. Apart from having superior versions of most songs, it just sounds more "live" to me. Even though both albums are spliced to hell and back. I do prefer WLL from HTWWW though.

"Plant didn't try to impress the crowd as a great singer. He isn't. ...His style is to be shrill and fall off the notes soon after he hits them."
Dang! Harsh stuff!
Geez. What constitutes a "great" singer? I think as a rock vocalist, he was almost untouchable up to 72. Plant's voice certainly changed for better or worse, but he was absolutely still a great singer in my opinion. Once his voice smoothed out some in 77 and he learned how to sing accurately at a lower register, he was just as good as anyone else. It's not like he was singing out of key.

Then there is the fact you cannot steal a riff which has been, in one form or another, in the public domain. The basic Stairway progression has been around since the 17th century & Bach. That being said, if anyone has a right to sue it would be Davey Graham and the suit against Randy California if that were the case. Davey's 1959 tune Cry Me a River is verbatim Taurus, however Graham being quite the student of music likely realized the progressions roots and figured he would be laughed out of court. Go figure.
Then you have Sam Smith being sued by Tom Petty for a progression that is much, much less distinctive than Stairway vs Taurus. So one has to wonder if it's just money that does the talking.

I see a tweet from @LedZepNews that Francis and the one attorney for Zeppelin were back at
it again in San Francisco at the United States court of appeals 9th district. Same ol' Stairway
vs Taurus copyright stuff. I thought this whole thing was dead and buried?Francis is still a worm in a suit. I forgot how douche baggy he is.
The only way Spirit will get anything out of this is if Page flat-out admits to jacking the riff. Even if Page was inspired by it, he still changed it up to where there's no grounds for copyright whatsoever.

It'll be exactly the same as the 02 show, but with the guitars a little louder in the mix.

Robert and Jimmy are polar opposites when it comes to Zep. I've noticed in many recent interviews that Robert really isn't keen on talking about Zep's glory days. I think he wants to look at Zep as just a small cog in his musical career instead of the monolith it was and doesn't want to be tied down as "the singer for Led Zeppelin". He seems to be the type that is always in a state of change and constant musical progression. He's also a very modest person considering his success, and I think sitting around bragging about groupies and drugs during the seventies doesn't suit him much.
Jimmy on the other hand, will talk endlessly in great detail about the history of the band, to the point to where it gets kind of boring. I think that's because Zep was his baby. He put the band together and guided it's musical direction. Whereas the other mebers, while certainly contributing heavily and pulling their weight, still seemed to be along for the ride. Page also hasn't had the illustrious solo career Plant has, so it's not like he's got a lot more to keep himself occupied professionally. I suppose that's why he's delved into remastering and digging up old outtakes and such.

The 71 U.K. shows might stand up to Japan if the recordings were decent. The Wembley Empire Pool show has one of the best Stairway solos, but man is that recording bad.
-
EVH talking about where he got inspired to try the "Tapping" technique.
Strangely, when asked later in the interview if Jimmy was an influence to his playing, he says no.

Nice video and I saw this movie years ago. Brad Renfro was a good actor and too bad like many his age had his demons due to the Hollywood life. Cool Zeppelin reference in the film and my guess he had this added to the screenplay. Not the first time he did this as another one in his prior film, "The Client" with Susan Sarandon. Brad Renfro was a huge Led Zeppelin fanatic and loved their music so much from what I've read.
Awesome bit of info. I thought it was funny he used Jimmy Page though, considering Jimmy is terrified of driving. Should've went with Bonzo.

Impossible to listen to this without hearing the music. Well done.

Led Zeppelin II Vinyl question
in Led Zeppelin Master Forum
Posted
This might be better suited for the stevehoffman forum, but I'm trying to snag a copy of the second album on vinyl, preferably an original or early seventies pressing. Now I'm not really willing to drop $100 on an RL copy, but I'd also like to avoid any crappy ones. I've read that some copies (with a gold sticker) had tracking problems. Also that the 1977 reissues aren't great. So what are the midrange pressings?
