  1. I saw Sherlock Holmes a while ago... I thought it was decent, if not great. I thought it worked great as an action film - it had sort of a Pirates-esque adventure feel, which I liked - but as a Holmes film, it needed a loooot more story.

I actually liked Robert Downey Jr. as Holmes, although as with Iron Man, you're going to get more RDJ than the character, but the melding of the two worked for me (even with the bad accent, hehe). Who I really liked was Jude Law - I thought he was perfect for Watson. I'm a little tired of Watson being played as a bumbling old fool, when he's really not that way in the books, so that was a nice change. The bad guy (Mark Strong) did really well with what he was given, too. I'm not even going to waste my breath on Rachel McAdams - let's just say she sucked and leave it at that. Call Helena

I saw Sherlock Holmes tonight actually. I pretty much have to agree with you.

RDJ is a really, I think, charismatic actor, but it kind of bleeds into every role he does. He had the same kind of witty banter and charm going on in Zodiac, Iron Man, and, now, Sherlock Holmes. Having said that, he may not an obvious choice for the role, but one I'm glad he took. His accent was the only thing that let it down for me. It was far too contrived. He drank, had bare-knuckled fights, dressed like a tramp, yet he sounded like a Lord? Nah. Rachel McAdams is a good actress, IMO, but I didn't get her role in this at all. She had little to no point and she just confused me. But, the one I was really impressed with was Jude Law. He sucks majorly at being a loyal boyfriend, but is a pretty good sidekick. I don't think he's a strong enough actor to pull off a lead, but has enough stregth to support one. He and RDJ had great chemistry.

All in all it was entertaining enough.

  2. Glad to hear the murder was solved and he'll get what he deserves. I'm so sorry about your shitty day :console:

    Thank you :)

Here's the actual case BBC Link

My dad was interviewed twice, and this disgusting turd, who lived so close, who questioned only once. Hell, even I was question last year and I'm 24.

  3. It made me happy in April to know that, after 26 years, someone was arrested for the murder of a local teen; it made me happy today to know he pleaded guilty; and it'll make me happy in January to know that he'll get a mandatory life sentence.

I had a really shitty day, but hearing that evened it out. Now we can live in peace. RIP C.A.

  4. I didn't read the books but a lot of my students kept on about them and the media hype was excessive. I get that it'll make its $200+ million by virtue of catering to that demographic alone. But it's not so much that the movie didn't live up to too high expectations - any movie no matter how great can fall short in that context. It's that it seems they didn't even bother putting some effort into making it palatable for anyone who actually wants to see, you know, a decent movie. The books are what they are, not exactly masterpieces, but you can still make a good film with average source material. Are Bella and Edward really that wooden in the books? Makes you wonder why the two hottest guys in town are after her to begin with - or is just a case of birds of a feather? Taylor wasn't that bad, true, but I might have just been distracted too much by his six pack. Good eye candy all around, agree with you.

At least it didn't break the opening weekend's take of "The Dark Knight" which was excellent. A little bit of justice there.

I'm not a huge Twilight fan, but, still, you'd think that they would've tried to better the success of the first one. I wasn't a huge fan after Batman Begins, but TDK blew that one out the water. And if they make a third one, I'll want that to surpass TDK - visually and in plot. New Moon should've done that. It should've surpassed Twilight. And it didn't. Epic fail on Summit's part.

The problem with New Moon was that a different director took the helm. Everything from costume and make up, to the acting, was 'uncharacteristic' of Twilight. If you're not going to follow the books religiously, fine. But, if you're doing a supposed 'Saga', you might want to consider continuity a wee bit more thoroughly. The time that lapses between Twilight and New Moon is a matter of weeks, yet, somehow, most of the characters have different hair, eye colour, personalities, etc. It just irked me to see characters from the first film seem out of character in the second one. And they were pretty out of character in the first film, as it goes.

  5. I caught "New Moon" streaming and sat through it. Terrible terrible movie. I mean even bad movies would be embarrassed to have this be called a bad movie. There's a scene where Bella crashes on her motorcycle (helmets people, helmets!) and he head's bleeding a bit. So hottie werewolf rides up to her to see if she's ok. Then he stands up, and takes off his shirt so he can dab the blood on her forehead :hysterical: . Too much slo-mo, too much emo, too much bad dialogue. At least I didn't spend any money on it.

Oh, god, I saw New Moon and thought the same. I did the same thing, so didn't spend any money, but still, I felt bad for watching it.

I actually didn't have a problem with Jacob (Taylor Lautner), he did the best with what he was given. I felt it was all on Bella. Kristen Stewart is a terrible, terrible actress who believes blinking, biting her lip and sweeping her hair back is the appropriate emotional response in every scene. You're about to get fucking eaten, sweetheart, so what do you do? I think I'll blink for a bit. Eurgh.

Rob Pattinson is a close second. 'Never trust a vampire... trust me.' I see what you did there, Rob. Really clever  He looked so pained whenever he had to kiss Bella. To be fair, so would I, but he's the actor. Friggin' act like you love her.

The only saving grace in this film was Jackson Rathbone (a bloodthirsty Jasper), but even then that's because I'd be on it 'til it fell off. I sat through 2 hours of shit just to hear him utter two lines. I ought to feel dirty but he's just so beautiful...

  6. How's it going "longdistancewinner?" I hope all is well with you. When you think about it, THE RUNAWAYS were far ahead of their time. This was a young teenage all-female Hard Rock band that just wanted to kick ass and ROCK OUT! The band's manager, Kim Fowley, f*c*ed the whole thing up and ruined THE RUNAWAYS into breaking up in 1979. What a terrible loss for Rock n' Roll. R.I.P. Sandy West. Thank you for your comment and ROCK ON!

Hey, ZFF, all is well with me, thank ye kindly. Hope you're the same.

The Runaways were light years ahead of their time. And they mixed up what was a very male orientated business. That's why I love them. Because they were the first of their kind and they sound so good.

Kim Fowley, undoubtably, fucked them three ways to Sunday, but he had a hand in making them, just as much as breaking them.

    Sandy was an amazing drummer.

  7. I love the Runaways. Queens of Noise is a pretty rockin' album, but I love the rawness of their debut, The Runaways. Dead End Justice always gets me. I definitely prefer them when Cherie Currie and Jackie Fox were still in the band, though they had their moments later on - Black Leather, Don't Go Away and Saturday Night Special. My favourites just have to be Take It Or Leave It and I Love Playin' With Fire. Pretty fuckin-a for an all-girl teenage rock band.

  8. Because I dye my hair a darker shade than it is naturally, I always use professional color shampoos I have noticed a difference in how long the hair color sticks. It stays much longer if you use the shampoos formulated for color. My hair dresser told me that if I really don't want to buy professional products, to be sure that there is not "aluminum" something or other in the ingredients list on your shampoos. That's the major difference between on the shelf shampoo and the so-called "professional" ones.

I do see a HUGE difference when I use on the shelf hairspray versus professional hairspray. I have very fine, yet very thick, straight hair. It's heavy and unwieldy. I use Soya Want Sexy Hair? by Big Sexy Hair. I love it. I use a little, and my hair stays put all day!

Now...ladies, what to use to get your feet in decent condition? I've been scrubbing them and scrubbing them, and scrubbing them, but a summer of sandals has taken its toll on my feet!

Another one: How do I fix my silly tan line? I have a swimsuit strap tan line, and my friend's wedding is in a month. I need to fix it because my bridesmaid dress looks silly with the white white non-tanned part showing. ;)

You could use a gradual tanning lotion on the areas that are pale? There are plenty of decent ones out there. We only have a few of their products, but I've read that Jergens Natural Glow Express moisturizer is a quick way of building up a healthy looking tan.

    Jergens Naturals...

  9. I know there's one that's cherry-flavored and it's not too bad. It'll at least make you able to swallow food and liquids without wincing, at least until you can get to a doctor if it doesn't go away in 3-5 days or gets significantly worse.

    Get better soon. :)

God, I love cherries. I'll have to see where I can get that. Maybe in Boots. Thanks for that, Electro.

    :)

  10. I don't know if they have this in England, but if they do get some Cepacol or Chloraceptic. The first one are lozenges the second one is a spray. It helps deal with sore throat pain by basically numbing your throat.

We don't have Cepacol (not that I'm aware of), but we have Chloraseptic sprays. I never thought about getting a spray, but will look into it.

  11. Do you think it could be related to your tonsils? That is if you still have them, I don't know if you ever had them removed when you were younger. My sister used to get sore throats a lot as a kid and finally my mom took her to the hospital and they gave her antibiotics for tonsilitis as that was what it turned out to be.

    I hope it's nothing serious.

Thanks. I don't know, my mother had to have her tonsils taken out, so it's a possibility. I know last month I had the 'flu, so it's not like I get frequent sore throats. I hadn't had one since last year. I'm hoping it won't go behind this, because right now it's bearable.

  12. Yes. What is the point of all this arguing? There has been so much of that lately. I thought it seemed to have ended.

It was hardly an argument. SAJ had his opinion and I had mine. How awful. There's been little to no arguing here on the Zeppelin boared as of late (General, not included), so it's not something to get all bothered about.

  13. Well, we've established you are easily confused so I have gone to great lengths and

painstaking detail to show the logic upon which I framed my position. At the end of

the day it is a position you can't refute, and one in fact you agree with. I have

nothing more to say on this matter and you may have the last word.

    'Painstaking detail', lolz.

    Whatever you say...

  14. Go with difficult and you'll be correct about something for the first time today.

If you scroll up you will see I provided specific stats for a specific region of the UK, knowing as I do that as an island there is variance. I think we are in agreement that,

as I said, scarves and jackets are more likely to be worn in December than in April.

You can spout all you'd like concerning global warming and fail to grasp I maintain residences around the world, and it will not change the correctness of my assertion.

Yeah, and that specific region is usually only a degree or two higher than, say, where I live. Hardly makes an impact on day to day lives. Why are you still arguing about this? I've already told you, that, assuming you're not slow, you're always more likely to wear warmer clothes in December. However, you're also still likely to wear said clothes in April. Except that and get over it.

I mentioned global warming once. That's hardly 'spouting'. Isn't there some scare-mongering thread you should be on?

You can live in as many places as you like, but that means fuck all if you're not in the UK experiencing the climate over an exclusive amount of time. And it wasn't your assertion that confused me, it was your sentence structure.

  15. I also know about the climate due to living in it. ;) It's not a crackpot theory that temperatures often reach heights now that they never used to back then, it's simply a fact. The UK is also a country in which temperatures vary widely depending on region--annual averages are pretty irrelevant here all the way around!

    Exactly.

The UK is an island, and a small one, so the weather/temperature will differ. Never too drastically, but enough to make stats irrelevant in some parts.

Well this would be my feeling too - someone who LIVES in the UK certainly has a better perspective on what the weather is like there so why anyone is arguing otherwise is confusing to me.

He's either bored/sad enough to want to argue (and I'm not too tired to reply), or he's just plain difficult.

  16. Global warming is crackpot theory masquerading as science but to each their own. I do know a little about the climate because I am living around the world, to include the UK.

Sentence doesn't quite make sense, but, whatever.

Nonetheless, experiencing the UK climate all my life will put me a little ahead of you when it comes to the speaking about it.

  17. Let's get you sorted (again).

Average temperatures for England SE & Central S from 1971-2000:

    December - Max 8.1 C, Min 2.4 C, Days of Frost 8.5, Sunshine 48.6 hours

    April - Max 12.5 C, Min 3.9 C, Days of Frost 3.7, Sunshine 159.7 hours

I said it is more likely for scarves and jackets to be worn in the month of December than

in the month of April. The statistics above support my position. Your position that it is warmer now than 17 years ago is not only patently false but irrelevant -we know the photo in question was not taken this year.

Insofar as Andy/Roger Taylor I made no assumption, I said "if" it is actually Andy then

there is another possiblity to be considered. I'm not an avid fan of Queen or Duran Duran

so I wouldn't know at a glance whom it was, particularly as he is bundled up.

I edited my post to reflect the fact rehearsals for the Mercury Tribute were held in late

March and on into April. We can speculate the photo was taken during that time, and it

is quite likely so, but it remains unconfirmed.

You think a few degrees higher or lower is about to make much of a difference? April is in spring, four months on from December, yet is only about 4 degrees higher than the maximum average of December; 1 degree higher than the minimum of December. Three less days of air frost; and we have more sun, considering we change our clocks to lengthen the days. You got me - you're more likely to wear your winters warmers in December...

And my 'position' that it's warmer now than it was 17 years ago is not 'false'. Global warming, anyone? The point I made was that if it can get colder now, how much colder could it have been back then? For someone who often lists their location as various parts of the country, you'd think you'd know about our climate - but, wait, you don't actually live here...

I'm not a particularly big fan and I barely even remember either act when they were at their pinnacle. Still, it doesn't take a genius to know that, with glasses on, it's Roger Taylor.

    And, thank you, Aqua.

  18. How do you figure? I said jackets and scarves are more likely to be worn in December than April. That is not to say they are not worn in April. Regardless, the date of the

    photo remains unconfirmed.

Edit: Rehearsals commenced in mid-March at a studio near Shepherds Bush in London. The three Queen members spent the first week sifting through and playing material, deciding which tracks to perform themselves and which to offer to the other acts on the bill. When the setlist is established, the other performers attend to rehearse alongside Queen. Each arrival is eagerly observed by the world's press.

As April 20 loomed closer, the rehearsals moved on to Bray Studios near Windsor, Berkshire where the significantly larger sound stage provided a more realistic simulation of Wembley Stadium. The final soundchecks took place at Wembley on Sunday, the 19th.

How do I figure? Well, as I live in the country, I'll know that April's have been known to be harsher than December's, therefore your assumption isn't all together correct. Between Feb-April we often get our heaviest snowfall. Added with the fact that 17 years ago, the temperature wasn't as warm as it is now. Oh, and you had to edit your post to confirm that it was in April.

Besides, your original post was about Roger Taylor/Andy Taylor. You assumed that it had to be Andy Taylor because of supposed date and by what they were wearing. Anyone with eyes can clearly see that it's Roger Taylor, and despite being in April, it can often be cold enough to still wear winter clothing. It's not that hard to understand.
