  1. No shit. Scraves too. My point was they are more likely to be worn in December than in April. Robert did not wear a jacket/cold weather clothing onstage when he performed at the Mercury Tribute. The next real question is when were the rehearsals held.

Edit: Bray Studios site says "April '92".

You point was obviously wrong, then.

  2. Robert did perform with Brian May & Roger Taylor at the Freddie Mercury Tribute at Wembley Stadium in London (4/20/92). However, this photo seems to have been

    taken well prior to that.

Note the heavy jackets and sweaters. If that is actually Roger "Andy" Taylor of Duran Duran in the middle than I'm going to say it was taken on or around 12/30/87, when Robert performed a warm-up date for his upcoming UK tour at the Stourbridge Town Hall. Andy Taylor of Duran Duran joined for an encore of 'Gambler's Blues' and

    'Johnny B. Goode'

It's Roger "Roger" Taylor of Queen. There's no doubt. And besides, we still have heavy jackets and sweaters now, never mind back in '87 (or '92).

  3. Aaaaawww, c'mon! Not even the scene when they peed in the empty beer bottles, and the trooper stopped them and demanded "Gimme that booze, you pumpkin pie hair cutted freak!" ???

    "I can't stop once I've started - it stings."

I love that film. Back in the '90's the Farrelly Brothers were on fire - King Pin; Something About Mary; Dumb And Dumber; Me, Myself and Irene. And Jim Carey has got to be one of the funniest guys of our generation. I've loved him since Ace Ventura.

  4. He wrote an autobiography? When?

And the last book I got was Riendelwind The Wizard or something like that.. It's by Terry Prachett. If you like Douglas Adams you should definatly read Terry Pratchett.

I think he meant biography. There's one called No One Here Gets Out Alive: The Biography of Jim Morrison. Could be that one.

I'm about to embark on Laurel Canyon: The Inside Story of Rock-And-Roll's Legendary Neighborhood by Michael Walker.

  5. Some fantastic authors there! I've not read too much Ginsberg shameful as it is because the whole beat era is something I'm quite fascinated with. Have seen some good exhibits at museums on the times, Ginsberg of course prominently featured.

I actually haven't read any Ginsberg. I must say, up until a few years back, I was fairly ignorant of him. The Beat era isn't really given much emphasis in the UK so I'm quite excited to learn about him.

  6. I love creative writing. Sounds like an interesting year though - exploring many different areas like that, especially film scripts and radio plays! I would definitely say this year will be challenging - English Lit or American as well?

It's mainly English Lit, but we do (and will do) the works of American writers as well. Just thinking off the top of my head, I'll be doing Henry James, Philip K. Dick (the Do Android Dream Of Electric Sheep? author), Kate Chopin, T.S. Eliot and Allen Ginsberg (super excited about reading his stuff!), but I've done assignments on/learnt about Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Emily Dickinson, Louisa May Alcott and Alice Walker. There's probably a ton more but I can't think of them right now.

  7. :thumbsup::cheer:

    Excellent news! Congratulations :D

Thank you very much :) It was a year dedicated to - wait for it - Creative Writing (and then Advanced Creative Writing). I did everything from poetry to film scripts to radio plays to short stories. I enjoyed it immensely and feel happy with what I've achieved, but I'm glad it's done. Now it's all about 19th and 20th Century Literature. This year's going to be a wee bit tougher.

  8. :cheer: That sounds fantastic!!! A place on my list to visit some day. So happy for you. I would imagine it's not a long flight for you. I used to be a lousy flier but I've sort of gotten over it as I got used to it.

Thank you!! :D The flight will be about 2 hours long. Not too bad. The best thing about living near the Continent is the amount of cheap flights on offer. These cost less than £40 return. We're staying pretty much in between the Barri Gotic (the Gothic Quarter) and the harbour, so hopefully we'll get nice weather. Apparently, October is a rainy month for Barcelona.

  9. From a view from the United States (I'll play The Ugly American):

    • WTF is a Robbie Williams?!!
    • Oasis has a so-so following over here; their biggest hit was "Wonderwall" or whatever it was called. All we hear is that the Gallagher brothers fight each other.
    • Simply Red had a couple of hits (Holding Back the Years; If You Don't Blow Me Right Now)
    • Only one hit (and a good 'un) for Cliff Richard: "(She's Just a) Evil Woman (with evil on her mind)"
    • WTF is a Westlife?!!
    • WTF is a Shadows? Weren't they a band from the 1950s? The band name sounds like they were surf rockers or something similar. If so, kudos to them.

From the point of view of a Briton:

    * Robbie Williams is a male singer. You couldn't gather that he was an artist, and not a band, from his name? Whilst relevant, he was hugely popular and successful. Both as a solo artist and as part of one of our biggest bands from the '90's.

    * Oasis are massive over here, so whilst they aren't to the same degree in the US, that was never the point of the list, was it? And they don't fight each other.

    * Simply Red, whilst not my cup of tea, were well-known and popular. They still are to their followers.

    * Cliff Richard has had number one's in every decade since the 1950's. He's on par with Elvis.

    * Westlife is an Irish boyband that pretty much took every number one spot with every single they did.

    * The Shadows were an instrumental rock and roll band that, I dare say, influenced many later rock outfits (you're on their forum). Not only popular during the 1950's, '60's and '70's, their lead singer was also one of our most successful male singers - Cliff Richard.

You make me laugh. You're disputing a UK chart listing from an American point of view. Of course it's gonna go over your head. And what's with all the 'WTF is a...?' That's like me asking 'WTF is a Led Zeppelin?'

  10. My dad told me earlier today that I'm not able to go to uni at Edinburgh becuase we can't afford it :(

Aren't you 16? That means, at the very least, that you still have a further two years before you can apply to any university. What was it at Edinburgh that you wanted to do?

  11. Dunno depends where you are, if your anywhere near the coast for example you would get the winds, or if your near the center, you wouldn't get the winds so much.

But it's not actaully as nice as it sounds, it gets pretty humid at times. But England is gorgeous in the summer.

I know, I live here too :D I live in the East Midlands, and it has not been as nice or as dry as it should be. Yesterday it bombed it down royally. Aside from that warm bout we had a few weeks in early July, it's been shitty since. Not good.

  12. Well actaully it was yesturday but I went for another one of my walks and it was so beautifully sunny, I heard the bird and the wind blowing thorugh the trees. I also decided to take the shorter route becuase I didn't like the heat much, the bit I went through was stunning and beautiful also, butterflys were flying all over the place, flowers were from side to side. And the wood I went through was gorgeous! I kept kicking myself for not having descovered it before, well now I know. And In the part I saw a rabbit, it stayed for about 5 secs before it saw me and run off.

I'd like to know why it is that your weather is different to mine. <_<

  13. I saw that earlier. Very sad news indeed :(

It's weird because only a few days ago I was actually thinking about him passing away. I know it sounds macabre, but I saw a picture of him looking so ill and I thought 'it'll be a sad day when he dies', and I woke up this morning and heard the news. My family's from Newcastle and they'll be really devastated. I imagine Knebby will be as well.

He fought cancer 5 times, the poor soul, and it's so heartbreaking that this was one battle he couldn't fight any longer. No one deserves to go through that :(

  14. :console: I'm so sorry you were feeling so sick :( Glad you are feeling better but do take it easy so you don't get another bout. Hopefully your boyfriend and his mum will be okay too.

Good to see you back btw :)

Thanks, Nine :) I felt so bad I just tried to sleep it off. I'm feeling much better now, though.

    Glad to be back.

  15. I had the flu, also.

My symptoms came on rapidly. The headache and the body aches were almost unbearable. My sore throat was minor, I had a dry hacky cough, and the highest fever that I had was 101.7. Symptons lasted for about 3 days. I, too, had shivering with the fever. When the fever broke I was all sweaty and cold. I don't know if it was the swine flu or not as I didn't get tested, and frankly, I didn't want to go through the uproar that it would have caused in our community if I indeed did have it.

No one in my family or at my office has gotten sick.

I hope that you are fully recovered now, longdistancewinner.

And that your sister gets better, JAL. And that you don't get sick, also.

Thanks, Buckeye, I hope you're feeling better as well :)

I was exactly the same. I was so hot my clothes were damp with sweat, yet I'd be shivering. I felt so sore. I don't know how high my temperature was, but it did worry my bf at one point. I didn't have an headache with mine, but my sore throat kept me awake for two days. It then changed into a cough, which I'm just about shaking off. At it's worst, it definitely lasts about 3/4 days. Over here, they've said that you really ought not to consult your doctors because you're only swamping them. So, they set up a website instead. Anyone can apply for the medicine, which I don't like, since anyone could just stock pile.

  16. My mum thinks that my sister might have Swine Flu! :o

Well she has a tempreture and does have signs of flu.

I've only just recovered from my bout of suspected Swine Flu. Unfortunately, I passed it on to my boyfriend (and possibly his mother), as well. At the first sign of symptoms, his work have told him to go home until he's feeling better. I had it a lot worse than he has, though. I hardly ate for days, living off water and Lucozade only, I felt sore all over and had a temperature even when I was shivering like mad. My sore throat come on in the space of an hour. That's what startled me. The rapidity of it. There's every chance that I had just a common cold, but I honestly don't think it was.
