  1. Want to pop in properly and say what an amazing thread, Knebby - really interesting. Thanks.

Always noticed that Bonzo wasn't present at Richard Cole's wedding - any reason for that?

It'd be interesting to know whether any of them still keep in touch with the entourage.

  2. I didn't know that air conditioning was not standard in homes over there. I can't imagine being in house that didn't have central air. At least not today. In my parents' time air conditioning was unheard of. I hope you guys have tons of fans, though!

We only ever buy (and sell) fans when we go through a bout of really unbearable heat. After that, they're usually stored away until the next time. And even then, you don't really see fans in the shops that much. We can get away with not having air conditioning in homes because it'd only be a waste - our weather doesn't necessitate it. Work places do have it, however. Though, I'm not sure if all are required to.

  3. I'm actually in North Carolina, and it doesn't get as hot here as it can in Florida. We're in the Mid-Atlantic region rather than the Deep South, so while it can get warm....it doesn't get sweltering. I'd say the hottest it got here last summer was maybe 90, 91. Not too bad. And it's not as humid, so it doesn't feel nearly as oppressive as it would if it was sticky.

I don't like heat either, I'd rather it be cold....it's easier to warm up than it is to cool down, but when I lived in Georgia.....that was ridiculous. I remember one week where it was 97 in the shade every day and wouldn't you know our upstairs air conditioning unit picked that week to die. We all had to sleep downstairs at night because it was too warm upstairs.

I'd just realised that you weren't from Florida and wondered whether the weather differed - North Carolina is only three states above Florida, isn't it?

We're relatively lucky in that we don't have that really oppressive humidity. We'll have sunshine, and the heat that comes with it, but we don't have the humidity. Air conditioning in homes is a rarity here, so when we do have a really bad heat wave, we're buggered. We're not used to it.

  4. I guess you folks in England where it's rainy and cold probably don't want to see the weather in my neck of the woods right now.

    Damn you :D

Actually, I've spent many a hot summer in Florida, and I don't envy you at all - it's too warm for me. I'm not used to the heat and I complain within minutes of landing.

  5. It is shitting it. It hasn't stopped raining all bloody day! came back home from school, not sitting with my feet in a bowl of hot water, 2 blankets over me, hugging my hotwater bottle watching youtube!

    I love England...

I wouldn't say it was that cold, though it's been raining all day. It was cooler than last week, and it's supposed to be this pissy all through the week, as well.

  6. Yes - similar to what I thought. Definitely my least favorite out of those books. For some reason I just didn't buy that those were actual diaries that she had written. Just certain things she writes. I need to find exact quotes before I start paraphrasing!

I get what you mean. I have a feeling that she's trying to make them appear as genuine diary entries, but they seem to have hindsight in them. It's entertaining enough in the sense that I'm intrigued how one falls into that kind of life, but she doesn't even the kind of personal tone or charisma that some of the other books I've read have.

  7. I'm curious to know what you think of it. I don't want to state my opinion on it to spoil anything for you. lol

I just picked up "Under Their Thumb" by Bill German about his experiences hanging out with The Stones. I'm wondering if it will be like a "Wonderland Avenue" thing (which I loved). We'll see!

I think she's in a whole league of her own with this one. Welch is certainly no writer, that's for sure, but it's entertaining enough. After reading something heavy like Villette, something with less substance is a welcome relief.

I must say though, from what I've read so far, she sounds like a whore. At least Pamela and Bebe maintained relationships. Morgana seems to have slutted herself out to anyone/everyone from an early age.

  8. Eh, couldn't it simply be "Plonk"(not "Plonker")? I think it means a cheap wine of inferior quiality?

 Or it's just me being a naive non native speaker?

It could be Plonk, but in the context that it's referring to wine, I've never known it be used as a term towards someone. It's likely Plonk derived from Plonker. It makes more sense, but, of course, Plonk could've been used as an inside joke, or something.

  9. ...Ross Halfin's diary past/present can perhaps provide some clues as to Jimmy/Relevancy of the place where you saw Jimmy/Limo...restaurants, clubs near that area where Jimmy or Ross visit....

Ross' diary says he (Ross) was in London yesterday.

    Hmm...

  10. Well, like I already mentioned, I went to London yesterday. And I am 100% in my belief that I thought I saw Jimmy Page. Really. I was coming out of Tower Hill Tube Station, and I thought I saw him go by in the back of a black cab. His hair was down and long, kinda fluffy and kinda curly - think: It Might Get Loud premiere - and he was laughing. He was alone, so I'm assuming it was something he must've shared with the cabbie, but I don't doubt for a second that I thought it was him. There's a good chance it might not have been, but I really think I saw him. Of course the cab went by so fast that I couldn't confirm it, and I was in shock for a few seconds, so my reaction was kind of delayed. My boyfriend must've thought I was having a fit. The only annoying thing about it is that I'll never really know if it was Jimmy. But I really believe it was - unless he was nowhere near London yesterday. Or he has a twin.

  11. I am 100% positive that I believe I saw Jimmy Page today. I was in London, and as we left Tower Hill tube station, 'Jimmy' - I'm 100% positive that I think I saw him, if you get me - was in the back of a black cab, alone. His hair was ala IMGL - white ringlets and kinda long - and he was laughing at something the cabbie must've said - a really broad smile. If he wasn't driving past at such speed, a double take could've confirmed it <_< So, there's a good chance it wasn't him, and if it was, I'll never know. But I believe that I think I saw him.

  12. I just found out that they are making a "The Mighty Boosh" movie! All the people that live in the UK should know this show! I hope they show it in America!

All the people in the UK should know better than to like this show. Tries to be like Monty Python - fails miserably. I was given the first two DVD's one Xmas, and whilst they grew on me, I'm still not enthralled.

I'm happy because tomorrow I'm off to LDN. My boyfriend, a mate, and myself will partake in a spot of sightseeing, the Churchill War Rooms, and the London Eye. I'm hoping to go to the Tower of London, and then we'll just roam the streets like the out-of-towners that we are.

  13. I'm not green with envy. Not at all.....

    :'(

    :D

What he doesn't know is that he's giving one of them to me :D

I think it's very sad that a minority have become so obsessed with greed and money, that when they are given something some would die to have, they'd rather sell it on to gain profit. Not because they want to sell it for a genuine reason, but because they think, 'hey, I can make a few quid off the back of this'. If Jimmy ever signed anything - even his name - and it was in my possession, no way would I be selling it.

  14. I can officially say U2 end of September since i now have tickets! I would love to see Bruce this month (still deciding if i want to spend the money) and i'm thinking about the Allman Brothers Band this summer. I saw ABB back in 1981 and would really love to see them again. Actually, i would like to see Fleetwood Mac, too. Gonna have to check out the date.

I really, really hope they come to the UK/Europe. I saw them during the Say You Will tour in 2003 and they were amazing, and that, apparently, wasn't a 'happy tour'. I saw the Stone a few months earlier, and - out of the two - the Mac were my favourite. I've heard some boots from this tour and they sound pretty tight. But, apparently, Stevie Nicks has said that they may not be able to afford a tour to Europe :'(

  15. What an adorable little lad!

Who'd have guessed he'd have grown up to play some of the best and loudest guitar in rock 'n' roll, in between bonking women, swilling Jack, and scarfing down drugs, all on his way to being awarded an OBE? :DB)

I know! He looks so sweet, doesn't he? Like butter wouldn't melt in his mouth. If only they knew...

    :whistling:

  16. Yeah! I've saved them just the other day...

I don't know if this guy is really Jimmy ...2zf351t.jpg

...while I'm almost sure this is him 2uesioo.jpg

First one is definately not him, second one is said to not be him, either.

    These, however, are him.
