    What did you think?

Great show. Sold out. Standing room only. His band was tight. He’s an excellent performer and Steve Stevens was incredible (his technique and accuracy with flamenco, blues, and so many styles was amazing. He even played some zeppelin (part of “going to California” and intro to “Stairway to Heaven” in one of his solos, too).

Yes, it's pretty clear which one of them wants to do something with the CP material and which one doesn't!
Agreed re. cds, etc, I'd always prefer a physical format. You pay for it once, it's yours and you can play it as many times as you like. I can see why the industry wants to phase that out in favour of something that costs them less, makes them more money and gives them more control. I hope it doesn't happen. Mind you, I heard the head of some small record label recently complaining that there was only one remaining cd pressing plant in Europe and it'd created a total bottleneck in the system that was making everything increasingly difficult. Dunno if that's true, but if so, the lack of  infrastructure alone could spell the end. Shame.

I heard the same thing re: cd pressing plant. I’ve actually seen a few limited edition cd-r’s released (from major labels) “independently” on the down low to see if they could profit and what the reception would be like to a niche market of fans.

Very odd. It's not so long back that Coverdale said they'd got the rights back for CP,  'so we can do what we want with it'.

Exactly. Sounds like One of them doesn’t want to do the project or have it released in a deluxe anniversary format. CDs are not a dead format. They have been misinformed. Blu-ray audio (Atmos surround), 4k UHD, etc all share the same size and play perfectly from blu ray players, 4K players, etc. We know most  streaming services are popular, but most overcompress the audio (Loudness wars). They’re really missing a great opportunity to release 30th anniversary C/P deluxe set with bonus a/v footage, Rehearsals, b-sides, unreleased tracks, live tracks (vinyl, cd, Blu-Ray audio/video).

  4. Sounds like a lot of excuses. CDs are still outselling vinyl in total sales of actual items or product. Vinyl is only “outselling” CDs, if you consider the total price of vinyl versus the price of CDs. One can spin It (no pun intended) any way they want.  If major retailers (like Best Buy, Target or Walmart) don’t want to carry CDs or only carry CDs of artists and / or bands that don’t sell on that format (rap, new pop, etc), then it sounds like they’re trying to sabotage the format. Everyone knows CDs are portable, digital, don’t warp and don’t scratch as easily as vinyl.  Sounds like JP put the project to rest and DC is trying to save face for bringing up the idea 3+ years ago.  It’s too bad, as the deluxe reissue would have been worth (especially if it included rehearsals, unreleased songs, b-sides, live tracks and / or a blu ray concert (if included).

  5. Remember, Jason has been known to videotape every rehearsal, every opportunity he can to play with his dad’s band (individually or collectively). He’s also been known to know how they played the arrangements of songs from one tour to the next (‘68-‘80), so for him to not take initiative or interest until now to unearth potential materials seems very out of character.
However, like Steve said previously in this thread, there’s always a possibility of now just unearthing something based on the sheer size of real estate.
