  1. I've been on kind of a Dio kick lately. Well, it started with a Cozy Powell kick, which led from Jeff Beck to Rainbow. So I got that DVD of Rainbow live, and just couldn't believe how great Ronnie was on that, the star of the show. Perfectly in tune, just a stunning performance. I've had 'The Gates of Babylon' in heavy rotation lately. I met Ronnie once, he was in the next room at a rehearsal studio in Burbank, he had Vinnie Appice on drums. I couldn't believe how short he was, haha. But he was such a cool cat, really gentle and polite to everyone there. What a voice though. One of the best ever, for sure.

  2. Seems like I heard or read something about this recently...Nesmith wants no part of it if I'm not mistaken. For that matter, has he ever taken part in any of these reunions?

Yes he has, at the Greek in LA about ten(?) years ago or so, I remember it was a big deal. He had a great time too, if I recall

  3. Just picked up the "Best Of" CD for four bucks. The Monkees were huge back then. They had their own jet, just like Zep! As for the Monkeemobile, the last time I saw it was in '76 or so at 'Cars of the Stars' in Buena Park. They had a bunch of cool cars, like the Munsters and stuff.

  4. Jason Bonham Jamming with Whitesnake

I'm seeking to confirm the specific date, venue and location of Jason's jam with Whitesnake mentioned in the article below. I have confirmed the song was 'Ready An' Willing' and that it occured during their 1983 tour, however I have found no recordings, photographs, ticket stubs or press coverage to further substantiate this. Perhaps an avid Whitesnake enthusiast will see this post and be able to assist further.

Jason Bonham Jamming with Led Zeppelin

I'm seeking clarification of the comment in the same article below concerning Jason jamming with Led Zeppelin in the studio while they were recording 'Presence'. Does he mean he joined them in Sep/Oct '75 while they were rehearsing in Hollywood at Studio Instrument Rentals (SIR) Studios (6465 Sunset Boulevard 90028) or did he join them in Munich at the Arabella Hotel - Musicland Studios sometime between November 9-26 1975?

Well, there's two great tales I'd never heard before - Bonzo making his assistant carry a bag of rocks everywhere, and the clock going off near the end of recording Kashmir. Great stuff, Jason! More! More!

  5. Here's a color pic from Atlanta. It does kinda look like dusk. I'm thinking their set is maybe 45 minutes long...Either Robert changed shirts during this set or they played a second one later that night....

  6. Yes.....The Atlanta Pop Festival was July 4th an 5th.

As far as I'm aware, they did not play on the 4th. Robert's wearing two different shirts, the pictures are either light or dark, I don't see any in-between shots, lighting-wise, ....To me it looks like two different sets, more than one show that started in daylight and ended in darkness with Robert changing shirts . In the timeline, (which just lists the 5th) accounts differ. So, what happened, does anyone have more info?

  7. Does anyone know the circumstances ........................

wtf.gif is going on in frames 212 and 213? Someone falling?!

Sorry I am lacking in how to make these individual pictures!slapface.gif Thank you....

Looks like a streaker! The guy's naked. Cole is taking care of him, it appears. Is this Atlanta Pop? They did two sets?

  8. Asked which of his father's songs he was most looking forward to playing again, Mr. Bonham cited "Kashmir" from "Physical Graffiti."

"The simplistic part of it," he said, "just to even try to get it somewhat close or right, it's not what you do, it's what you don't do. A lot of the things with Dad were like that. It was the simplicity. Think of 'When the Levee Breaks,' when it starts. It's such a simple pattern, but try playing that beat – half the time, it never sounds anything like the way he did it."

"He really was a phenomenal player," Mr. Bonham said. "He really was the man."

    Damn right!

  9. Great questions. I can't think of any soundchecks they did on the Over Europe '80 tour. I believe those were handled by the road crew only.

Jimmy said the riff for 'Shake My Tree' was something he developed during the In Through The Out Door sessions but nothing was done with it at the time. He said 'Midnight Moonlight' was the first song he and Paul Rodgers

wrote together in Sep/Oct '83, however as I recall there is evidence to suggest that riff was originally played

during some live renditions of 'White Summer' in 1977.

That funny picture of them all playing in shorts, was that a pre-tour rehearsal then? When was that taken?

  10. "Grim Reaper" is the song I'm thinking of, didn't see it on youtube.

Regarding the show, I remember really digging it, I thought they were gonna be big!

It was very crowded. The bass player, if I recall, was wearing white satin, remember this was right in the middle of the disco-era. That drummer really wanted to be Bonzo (don't we all) but of course he fell far short (like everyone else) I think they suffered the dreaded "sophmore jinx" with the second album, I don't recall a third LP, am I correct?

  11. Nice, I forgot all about 'Recognition'. I have both albums, I even saw Detective at the Starwood back in the day. What's that other tune, very similar to Wanton Song, you know...like that one too
