  1. To solve a very minor mystery - at the La Forum show of 6/23/77 - Q: "Why did the band stop after TSRTS, instead of going straight into Sick Again like they always did?"

A: Because the strap on Jimmy's double-neck guitar broke during TSRTS

This photo, dated only "US '77" is actually from 6/23/77. I was there, they tried forever to fix it before the first song ended, but couldn't, so they had to stop while Jimmy got another guitar. In fact, Page drops out of the mix on the 21st at the same spot, so I'm thinking it was a problem that night as well. Ok, I feel better now, carry on!

  2. Stage looks too small to be the Forum...

as for that soundcheck photo, I'm going with Atlanta too. )In fact I believe that whole soundcheck-oldies-jam often attributed to Chicago, July 6th, could very well be from Atlanta as well, but that's a whole 'nother discussion)

  3. Yes, Sept 6, 1975 which would have been about three weeks into a 33-date tour. I've only been able to confirm 11 of the 33 cancelled dates, so if anyone out there has the complete Autumn '75 tour itinerary please consider sharing it here. Sometimes I think although 33 dates were planned not all had been announced. I'd like to get this cleared up.

The Swan Song press release lists Oakland, Pasadena, Kansas City, Louisville, New Orleans, Tempe, Denver and Atlanta all being cancelled. I guess Helsinki was on the agenda too, but as for 33 shows, was that number announced or something?

  4. Hey Steve,

Very interesting point you made above, referencing my question to you a couple weeks ago about Zep being asked to play Montreaux in the summer of 1975. Your partial answer above in laying out Zep's 1975 summer timeline had me thinking: have you ever seen pictures/copies of actual Zep concert tickets for the Fall 1975 tour? I never have, yet it reminds of the tickets that were printed in Chicago for the 1980 US tour that were never used for obvious reasons (and the tickets can be seen in Dave Lewis's book, "The Concert File").

Given your timeline above, you would think that tickets for the first announced US dates would have been printed and possibly distributed, since it was 6 weeks between the announcement of the Fall US Tour dates and the first scheduled date in Oakland, California.

Were tickets ever printed, and have you seen pictures or actual copies of any tickets from these Fall 1975 US dates (Oakland, Tempe, Denver, Kansas City, etc...)?

    [/quote)

I bought a ticket to see Led Zeppelin at the Rose Bowl, September (6th?), 1975. I returned it for a refund, but did make a Xerox copy of it, which I still have. There is a picture of this ticket in an old issue of the fanzine "Proximity", where I told my story of seeing the 6/23/77 show ("I was a teenaged Badgeholder") I'll look for that when I get home - the actual copy is MIA at the moment, along with my other Zep stubs.

So - yes, tickets were printed and sold for the fall '75 US Tour

  5. I saw The Wall at the LA Sports Arena in 1980. Unbelievable spectacle. In fact, I took my seat in the back, and had no idea that right up behind me was the airplane that, at the start of the show, came flying down over my head and crashed into the wall! I was just - WHOA!! Also caught them at the Rose Bowl in...'93? post-Waters, Division Bell, I think. The lasers, the quadrophonic sound, their shows are so epic. Also caught that "Live from Pompeii" movie a few times at those midnight shows, and the Bob Geldof 'Wall' in the theater as well. I remember in 1974 I was going to the Shrine auditorium to see Golden Earring and Montrose, and we drove right by the Sports Arena where Pink Floyd were playing four nights. This was when asshole Ed Davis was police chief and they were busting everyone in sight at the Floyd shows, major crackdown. Don't know why the Hell I didn't catch one of those shows. I was into Montrose at the time. And then when I get to the Shrine I see that Hagar has been replaced by Joe Shmo on vocals, grrr. Anyhoo, them's my Floyd tales. I think I fall into the "like 'em, but not a gigantic, must-have-everything" kinda fan. (I do have David Gilmore's first solo album). As I look around for bootlegs, it became quickly apparent that there ain't NOTHING like the hard-core Floyd fans, I think they beat even us Zep-heads for sheer.....enthusiasm? Devotion? What's a nice word for crazy? :D
