  1. Here's an extract from Ronnie Wood's autobiography:

"He (Peter Grant) told me that a bunch of blokes were putting a band together and intended to call themselves the New Yardbirds. Peter said, 'They want you as their guitar player.'

Well, I'd met a few of them up at his office, including the rude drummer John Bohnam, who reminded me of a farmer, bassist John Paul Jones and the harmless enough Robert Plant, and I told Peter, 'No, I'm happy where I am thanks.'

He insisted, 'This is an offer you really must consider.'

I considered it for two seconds, and then told him again, 'No way'. The New Yardbirds hired Jimmy Page instead and changed their name to Led Zeppelin."

    WTF it is???

Interesting story, but isn't it bass-ackwards? Jimmy was the original and founder of "The New Yardbirds". No one hired him. He did all the hiring.

  2. Since Chris Farlow did vocals on : Hummingbird, Prison Blues, Blues Anthem on Outrider....this guy can sing the blues. If you don't have a few in your collection and love the blues....:yesnod:

I could have sworn this guy was black. That's meant as a compliment.

  3. Cool, I had an SG just like that in the late 1980's too dude! I was using a Marshall 50 watt transistor combo (pre MG series) I was told it was a mid or late 1970's SG, the amp was almost new at the time.

At that time, I was playing through a Peavey. I found the sound to be weak and my notes lacked attack. I later wirelessly plugged into a Fender Deluxe II solid state. Much better results. My SG i believe to be a 1963. Unfortunately I no longer own it.

  4. Great photo's, thanks for sharing. Where were you stationed in the Navy?

I was onboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz. Homeported in Bremerton, WA, but the photos were during a WesPac tour in the Indian Ocean. I got to experience Hawaii, S. Korea, Phillipines, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Singapore.

The jam session actually took place on the flight deck of the carrier. There's a Navy tradition called "Steel Beach Picnic", where the crew gets to let their hair down for a day. Works for me.
