It can really make a difference to the ambience of the recording. I use an old Teac 10 band equalizer to tune up bootlegs. Works quite well when it comes to fine tuning the wide range of audio that is available. It also has a multi-colored spectrum analyzer, which passes as a light show...if you're in the proper mood.
