chef free
Any one familiar with this new version? Such an awesome show, I was just listening to the "Custard Pie" (Colba lable) version Friday night and I noticed how bad it sounded. (I guess I've gotten a little spoiled since the vinyl bootlegs of the seventies!) Today I get an email from my buddy who's downloading this one. I really don't want to get my hopes up, anybody heard it? "Now Is The Time Of Reckoning" March, 24th, 1973, Offenburg. chef free
Review about the performance from Argenteumastrum.com: As for the interaction between the group and audience, this is undoubtledly the best show from the European tour and one of the greatest shows ever. Jimmy is just unbelievable in his solos, especially on Since I've Been Loving You and Stairway To Heaven. Dazed And Confused is amazing and the entire set is slick and improvised. Robert's voice sounds very strong and Bonham and Jones are a rhythm section possessed. This project is a straight remaster of the first tape source of the bands performance. For this project, we decided to use a version of the first tape source called "Original Cassette used for Custard Pie boot", which is a phrasing that's not as clear as what some people might think. Saying that this version is "the original cassette" used for the bootleg LP and CD-R releases "Custard Pie" clearly means that this tape was used for those bootleg releases, but when they say it's the "original cassette", does that mean that it's the taper's master cassette?, and does it mean that all versions of the first tape source come from this cassette copy?. These are the kind of questions a phrasing like "original cassette" raise, and unfortunately, the textfile wasn't very clear about the recordings complete history. "Original Cassette" could also just mean that it's the source that's also known as the "Custard Pie" source (1st source). The raw tape source is a very good recording on it's own (it's clear and well balanced, with a tremendous sense of atmosphere), but it does suffer from a few slight channel fluctuations. What we've done to make this recording: - we've tried to balance the instruments as much as possible. - we've tried to correct the channel balance issues as best we could. - we've brought down the volume to a more reasonable level, originally the raw tape source was running too hot, so we've brought the volume down to a more reasonable level for everyone. In regards to the title: The title comes from a Plantation Plant makes during the course of the performance. We liked the sound of it, realized it had never been used before as a title for this release before, and thought we'd use it. Hope everyone here will enjoy this. SuperDave
A very strong performance and the sound is quite good and clear. To me it's their best from '73, including the US dates.
