You have two choices when you're the biggest name: Stick to tradition or try and jump ahead. Gibson had a lot of success in the early days by getting creative and being futuristic. The SG, Flying V, and Explorer were all unorthodox and very successful. They kept trying to reinvent the wheel and failed.
