DavidManchester
Hi all, as much as I am a fan of Zeppelin, (since 16 years old in 1976) I have to admit it's not to my wife's level though. (I will confess, Cheap Trick are my number one!) We met in a rock club here in Manchester (The Phoenix) in 1987, they were then, and still are now her all time favourite band. Even her car registration reads LE11 ZEP (looks far better on the plate!) In eighteen months, it's her 'big' birthday .... and I am desperately attempting to somehow get a birthday card with a message and signature for her, from her hero, Robert. It would truly make her day ... and more. Short of hanging around outside Molineux at every home game, in the hope of catching him, I have zero idea how to do it. If anyone should have an address or email that I could send such a request to, I (and eventually she) would be eternally grateful. I have seen several through searches that are his management, agents etc, but am sure none of those would have the time, or likely inclination to respond. Please realise, I am in no way attempting to get to meet him in person ... just get a card messaged/signed! Cheers David.Manchester, England. Did you used to go to UMIST on a Saturday night???? Phoenix Friday, UMIST Saturday. Those were the days. I went there before catching the Coach for the 1st Knebworth show. Having said that, didn't the Phoenix become a Techno club in the 80's? Does Plant not have a Web page or a Twatter account? And yes, the Phoenix closed then reopened as a Techno club. And what peed us off, was it gained a 4am license. We was always told that due to it's location to student accommodation (the irony) that it could only have pub opening hours .... turned out the then manager just couldn't arsed opening late. After the club closed, the pub part downstairs stayed open, and was rebranded as part of Bass's 'It's A Scream' student pubs. Ironically, my missus was area manager of it for a while. One day she got the club opened so we could have a nose around one last time. Apart from the old sunken dancefloor being raised level, and garish graffiti style paintwork, it didn't look too different ... it felt filled with ghosts from our youth... sadly before the era of camera phones, so didn't get pics. Sadly now all demolished .... The UMIST Barnes Wallis building is facing the same fate soon too. Went most Friday's and Saturdays, unless there was a gig on or something good at Manchester Poly All Saints. Funnily enough we saw Plant and The Honeydrippers at All Saints whenever it was 1981 ?? I was going from about 1977- 1981 ish. Saw The Heavy Metal Crusade at UMIST for £1.80 featured Nutz/Saxon and a very young Iron Maiden (who we booed at) in 1980. My youth right there. The Irony is, the last time we went to the Phoenix was for a Techno night. Good luck with the Autograph?
