  1. Besides NASA not yet having identified a planet in our Galaxy with Earth like properties, which is difficult with the technology we now have, I just realized that with all of the study of stars and their life cycles, we have yet to witness the birth of a star. Perhaps someday, the instruments may be available to see empirically, a star turning on.

The Who have announced a residency in Las Vegas for this summer.

The band will play six shows at Caesars Palace starting July 29. Other scheduled dates include Aug 1, 4, 7, 9 and 11.  The dates are described as a "first run". Tickets go on sale this Friday.

I remember Robert Plant joking in the 70's about Zeppelin "doing a Summer Season in Vegas."

  3. I think, that for me, Who's Next is next to DSOTM, one of the most important albums released, in the 1970's. I saw The Who in 1975. Amazing show. Live, Zeppelin was the best. But, for a studio album, Who's Next is superb!!

Well certainly C. Jones and Michael Lee weren't seen as up to Zep's "real" rhythm section. However, have you ever actually

seen P/P live in 98', or heard/seen audio/videos of their shows ?? Page was a little erratic but still usually good at least

in 95'. 98', Page came out all guns blazing, quite a few critics and fans will attest he played fantastic, even as good as Zep.

Plant wasn't weak by any standard, either. Not Zep but Lee and C.Jones weren't a farce by any means. Perhaps you've

seen some of those shows or heard them. Many people just automatically assume it couldn't possibly be any good, without actually hearing the shows. Forget WIC... Live the songs were much more potent.

    You talking to me ???

If so, then my comments about the '95 P&P show that I saw in Dallas not being up to Zeppelin standards, was a jab at P&P and not at Lee & Jones.

Have you been to any Zeppelin concerts??

The P&P show, for me, did not approach the "magik" of any LZ show ('70-'77).

If P&P 'floated your boat', then fine. But I won't be convinced, no matter how proficient you say Page was playing in '98, that these P&P shows were on the same level as any LZ show. But as LZ tribute band, I'd say the P&P shows were sorta good.

I walked out during "Kashmir" in '95. It's power was just so many levels below what I had experienced in '77.... well there was no reason to overly any of the memories of the '77 performance with the '95 one. Yeah, '77's was that ass kicking, in person. Boots don't do the power of the '77 performance justice.

  5. I don't know why Jones wasn't invited, why P&P didn't want Jones contributing, as no one does better LZ bass than JPJ.

But then there's the RP nepotism factor. The P&P bassist was Robert's son-in-law, no??

But, I've got no god in this fight, as the P&P venture was all below Zeppelin standards, in every way. Now that doesn't mean it was sh*t -- just that wasn't worth my attention, as Zeppelin first fan (differentiating from being a Page first fan, or a Yardbirds first fan, or a Robert first fan, or a Band Of Joy first fan, etc...)

In My Time of Dying....how I wish they had never done it live. I alternate gritting my teeth to endure it to keep the 'entire gig experience' or, more often than not, i just skip it. Or is this some kind of heresy?

    I enjoy the O2 IMTOD.

I skip the TSRTS WLL. I perfer 1970 WLL versions.

As a nostalgic moment I remember when KZPS 92.5 played this bootlegged version of D&C in 1982 just before midnight- I just could not believe it. We were in a parking lot on Greenville Ave and the entire parking lot was listening to it.  The power of music to unite was on full display.  Next night we caught TSRTS at midnight.  Dallas in the 80s... and Austin.

Wow, I also remember that!! We were in route to a showing of TSRTS when that came on. It sounded so great... I was so saddened to have to turn it off to go inside to catch the show.

Not only THAT but the solo to No Quarter from The Song Remains the Same and others from that release as well. So he edits his own music.

Ever think that the edits you mention above he couldn't get clearance from the publisher to put them out?

I would have liked for Mr. Page to have been, forthcoming and just say "he tried", but the publishers refused, if, that was the case. Obviously, he knows what exists on the BBC boots. And he knows that many long time fans also know this. But, I suppose there are thousands of "new" fans that are ready to jump at getting into a band that they only wished they could have seen live. I can;r hardly expect any journalist covering this release to even ask the question. But, maybe I'm wrong about that.

The "Honey Bee" that I first heard in 1974, from my first ever bootleg purchase -- was something from the '73 tour, if I'm remembering that correctly. That was a very very special moment for me. It was like, WOW, this is the MAGIC of LZ live !!! I wondered how could cool radio station snot be playing this!!!

I wouldn't totally blame peter grant. there just wasn't really a point to film a bunch of concerts back then. there wasn't sites like youtube (obviously :D) to upload the footage so unless they were planning on releasing movies or it was to be broadcast on tv, filming show on a regular basis just wasn't logical. most of the footage from bands of the 60's - 70's we have now is either from tv specials, documentaries or from music festivals. as for bootleg footage, I doubt there would be much more even if peter grant didn't have his reputation, as the footage situation is basically the same for most bands of that era, a few clips from people in the crowd but not much and not that great of quality. I know jimmy didn't like the cameras much either so im sure it was just as much his decision to only film the shows when it felt right.

led zeppelin at royal abert hall and tsrts, black sabbath at california jam and live in paris 1970, pink floyd live at pompeii, woodstock, ect.... all these performances were filmed with a purpose not just because they wanted to have the footage for future reference.

For posterity, at least one gig from EACH tour should have been filmed. Not the 8 camera variety. Just a single camera in the balcony, above the fray, with a wide shot encompassing the entire stage. The video screen footage presentation is *not* optimal. (I'm talking Earl's Court here)...

The logic being, when someone, anyone watches the film of the concert, they could direct their eyes to the part of the stage, and look at what they want to, when they want to.

You know... like when you're in the audience watching a concert.

All that, vs. the "MTV style" 2 second shots all the way through.

And for a multi camera shot, I would expect nothing less than the above, PLUS an isolated camera on each member whilst they are onstage.

    That's all I ask. As a Fan.
