And it's on to Dallas. March 4, 1975. Not only the first 1975 tour soundboard I heard but the first Zeppelin soundboard I heard period. Remember...Vancouver '70 and Paris Theatre '71 and all BBC recordings were radio broadcasts and not soundboards. I bought my Dallas '75 vinyl in the 1980s at a record shop in Austin, TX.

About this time, on March 4th, 1975, I was sitting 3 rows back stage left, waiting for Led Zeppelin to take the stage at the Dallas Convention Center Arena.

This boot was also the very first Zeppelin soundboard that I ever heard. My experience with it was on it's CD release. What thrill it was to be taken back in time to that glorious concert. No matter what the soundboard does or does not reveal, it was a magical evening to experience in person, in the flesh, that visual and auditory delight.

Pretty much every song off of HOTH which was performed live is superior to the studio version. Especially TSRTS / RS combo & NQ. These three songs on the album were missing something which was brought out live. I never liked the altered vocals of TSRTS stdio version as it make the song sound somewhat weak even though the instrumentation is epic, same with RS. Robert's live presentation of these songs (except for 75') was on-par with the musicianship. NQ studio I always skip over because to me it sounds like LZ in lounge act mode...almost, whereas the live versions were just grandiose and sinister.

  3. I find that most Zeppelin music used in movies is not the right or best fit for the Zeppelin song used. It's a matter of taste, I know. And I like Zeppelin songs, of course. But, I am also critical if a certain piece of music makes an impact or doesn't considering the scene. When you look at the monster rockers used, and then the, for Zeppelin, the "commercial" Immigrant Song...it just seems to short the band. It's use was cheesy, but I get that's what you get with Jack Black. I would have preferred Heartbreaker.

Off the top of my head:

    Cleveland 4/28

    Pontiac 4/30

    Birmingham 5/18

    Fort Worth 5/22

These are all pretty solid shows. And the recordings really aren't that bad if you have "bootleg ears".

I was at the Dallas, Houston & Ft. Worth shows.

The Ft. Worth show was the best of the three, particularly Kashmir.

The highlight in Houston was TSRTS and Ten Years Gone.

Dallas, the first date of the tour was like a rehearsal. A unmemorable show, for a Led Zeppelin concert.
