  1. Yes 04 was Sammy who is my favorite but it was cool with Roth when it started but Sammy is way more talented. Montrose, solo,HSAS,Van Halen

    Pavaratti was/is way more talented....

But when it comes to singing VH songs from 1978-1984... it's DLR all the way !

Which is why I listen, reather than watch the DLR act of now. I'm sentimental.... but...not that sentimental!!

Sammy with the boys is Van Hagar to me, and all that means. = (It means little to me... like Def Leppard means little to me. LIke post 1978 Aerosmith means little to me. Like Poison means little to me. etc, etc)

  2. This some interplay between the lead singer of Van Halen and the guitarist from the tour this year:

When I think about Jimmy Page and Robert Plant interplayed...

    THERE'S NO FUCKING COMPARISION !!!!

Whatever Van Halen bring to the table.....

It's nothing compared to what Page & Plant bring forth.

It just makes me laugh to consider DLR relevant.

Eddie, otoh, is ripping it !! :D

  3. Big Jim Sullivan

Interesting facts With Other Legendary Guitarists from Wiki

Ritchie Blackmore and Steve Howe were given guitar lessons by Sullivan.

Sullivan, together with Ritchie Blackmore and Pete Townshend, persuaded Jim Marshall to make amplifiers.

Sullivan was known as Big Jim, whilst Jimmy Page was known as Little Jim.

Jimmy Page borrowed Sullivan's Gibson J-200 acoustic for the recording of Led Zeppelin.

  4. Rock star Bruce Springsteen has officially endorsed Democratic Sen. Barack Obama for president.

He stated on Wednesday that “he speaks to the America I’ve envisioned in my music for the past 35 years.”

He sent out a letter to his friends and fans on his Web site stating that he believed Obama is the best choice to become the next president of the United States.

He stated Obama will be able to reverse “the terrible damage done over the past eight years.”

“He has the depth, the reflectiveness, and the resilience to be our next president,” the letter said. “He speaks to the America I’ve envisioned in my music for the past 35 years, a generous nation with a citizenry willing to tackle nuanced and complex problems, a country that’s interested in its collective destiny and in the potential of its gathered spirit. A place where ‘…nobody crowds you, and nobody goes it alone.”

He made no direct mention in regards to Sen. Hillary Clinton in his posting on his Web site.

  5. I saw Bruce 3 times (not nearly enough) and he played for almost 3 hrs. Last time i saw Bruce was when he toured for "The Rising". That show was the only New Jersey venue i saw Bruce play. Anyway a Bruce concert is an event that keeps you feeling energized for weeks afterwards. He is one of the BEST performers ever.

My favorite period for Bruce music is from the start in 1973 to 1980, but i love much of his later music, too. Even people who don't particularly like Bruce's music change their opinion after seeing him in concert. I have a friend who found that out. She would always make fun of his singing, but when she attended a show with me and her husband who is a Bruce fan, she had an awesome time. She even liked Bruce after that. No more Bob Dylan imitations from her!

Everyone seeing The Boss, enjoy! Even with steep ticket prices, you will get your money's worth in abundance. I say at 58 years of age, Bruce is the best looking and healthiest rocker around!

I've never seen The Boss, but I had a similar experience seeing Eric Clapton in 1983. I had never owned any albums that he contibuted to. And I knew who EC was, of course. But seeing him perform with the ARMS Tour... was a facinating experience! Eric was superb. And as good as all of the other performers were that evening... Eric was just fantastic from note one. It was in fact, such a satisfying experience.... that I have no regrets in not having seen Eric in concert since. The living memory lives on.... :D

  6. Bruce Springsteen still commands the spotlight

By THOR CHRISTENSEN / The Dallas Morning News

At 58, Bruce Springsteen no longer taps into the zeitgeist like he did in his glory days.

He titled his superb 2007 CD Magic, but it's bewitched no one aside from diehard fans: Radio ignored it, and even the Grammys didn't bother to nominate it for a major trophy.

But onstage, it's a different story. Give him a mike and a spotlight and he's still very much the Boss.

Mr. Springsteen and the E Street Band didn't sell out the American Airlines Center on Sunday night. But they reminded the near-capacity crowd why they're one of rock's greatest live acts: showmanship and spontaneity.

The longer the concert went, the looser it got. Near the two-and-a-half-hour mark, Jon Bon Jovi – in town to play the AAC on Monday – appeared from thin air to co-sing "Glory Days." (Finally, a chance to duet with the guy he's spent his whole career imitating.)

"Dancing in the Dark" was even more of a hoot, as Mr. Springsteen pulled a dozen gleeful grade-school girls from the crowd to serve as the "E Street Dancers."

His set list was equally unpredictable, with obscure oldies like "Meeting Across the River" and "Independence Day" mixing with "American Land," his Pogues-style ode to immigrants. Even "Reason to Believe" took on new life as a swaggering Chicago blues.

Of course, he played "Born to Run" and "Badlands." But he also devoted a third of the show to new tunes that sounded as good as the classics. When's the last time you saw an arena-rock act pull that off?

As a performer, he's not quite the Energizer Bunny Mick Jagger is. Nor is he the Bruce of yore who used to leap through the air and slide across the stage on his knees.

But while his body has aged, the man inside hasn't mellowed a bit. He ranted against the Iraq war, ripped into President Bush (without ever naming him), and danced around his mike stand like a stripper gone wild.

The E Street Band was sterling as usual. But notable in their absence were keyboardist Danny Federici (who's battling melanoma) and singer Patti Scialfa, who stayed home in Jersey to make sure her and Mr. Springsteen's kids weren't throwing keg parties and cooking pot brownies, he said.

"When you have three teenagers, it gives a whole new meaning to 'homeland security.' "

As a side Note, today on The Ticket AM 1310, the "Sports" station, the guys sat around and talked about the Springsteen concert and their impressions and experiences for about an hour. They mention that there was no opening act.... (like another great band I know !!!!).

What's so sad about the awful and dismal state of Rock radio in this town, is that it would -very- unlikely for ANY Rock stations in this town to have an intelligent and enterianing discussion about a rock concert, for almost an hour! You have to go to a Sports station for that ! The world is really very screwed up !!!

  7. Yes, John Bonham was a huge James Brown fan. He was messing with a James Brown groove in the vein of Sex Machine and Mother Popcorn and the band fell in and The Crunge was born. Take a listen to those songs and you'll see how brilliantly Zeppelin pulled it off.

I would also refer the members of the board to listen to this James Brown song, with reference to Zeppelin's interpretation of Funk on "The Crunge":

    "SUPER BAD"

I can't hear James Brown, without seeing Eddie Murphy doing his parody of the man on SNL ... and that's very very funny ! :D

  9. MONTREAL - Several dozen schools were expected to remain shut this week in the Canadian province of Quebec over fears their roofs may collapse under the weight of near record amounts of snow, officials said on Monday.

Administrators at Montreal's French-language school board said only 73 of the roughly 200 schools shut since Friday will reopen on Tuesday.

Some of the others may not open until after the four-day Easter weekend, which begins Friday.

"The objective, of course, is to open the maximum of schools but at the same time to proceed carefully because we want there to be zero risk," school board president Diane de Courcy told reporters.

All told, 90,000 students have been out of school in the Montreal area since Friday.

Primary and secondary schools and adult education centres will reopen only once their roofs have been cleared of snow and the buildings have been inspected for structural safety, de Courcy said.

Four people have been killed in the mainly French-speaking Canadian province of 7.6 million after roofs collapsed under the weight of accumulated snow, though none of the incidents involved schools.

In Shawinigan, about 150 kilometres northeast of Montreal, a 55-year-old man died on Saturday when the roof of his home collapsed.

Three women were killed in Morin Heights north of Montreal last Wednesday when part of a food warehouse roof caved in under the weight of snow.

To date, some 350 centimetres of snow has fallen in the Montreal area, approaching a record level of 383 centimetres set in 1971.

Despite periods of rain over the past few weeks, some school roofs have three meters of accumulated snow, school board officials said. About 300 workers were using shovels, scoops and even chainsaws to cut through the snow and ice.

There has been even more snowfall in Quebec's outlying areas. The Mont Orford ski hill about 120 kilometres to the east of Montreal has had 527 centimetres of snowfall since the beginning of the season.

Those seeking updates on the Montreal school closures can visit the school board's Web site at: www.csdm.qc.ca

  10. QUEBEC CITY, Quebec (Reuters) - Although Canada is one of the snowiest countries in the world, a series of violent "snow rage" incidents reveal that even the locals have their limits.

Police in the French-speaking province of Quebec said on Wednesday that people were fighting over snow clearing and even parking spaces.

Recent Canadian winters have been mild but this one looks set to break all-time records for snow. One storm last weekend dumped 23 inches on the capital Ottawa and 19 inches on Quebec City, which has already received 210 inches this year.

Quebec City police said they had been called to a dozen violent disputes about snow from one property ending up on someone else's. The drifts outside some houses are 12 feet and higher.

Last Sunday, a man in an upscale Quebec City neighborhood became so upset a woman from a snow removal service was putting snow on his yard that he shouted at her and then took a shovel and hit the window of the vehicle she was driving.

"The woman apologized and returned to work ... a bit later the man opened his garage door and emerged with a shotgun, pointed it at the ground and looked at her in a threatening way," said police spokeswoman Catherine Viel.

Police arrested the man, who will be charged with negligent use of a firearm, and seized a total of 13 weapons from his home. Viel said snow-related fights were unusually common.

"It's happened particularly often this year ... you have to be used to snow if you live in Quebec but it's been a bit extreme this year. People are fed up," she said.

In Montreal, police said a man had produced a toy gun during a heated dispute Sunday between two drivers over a rare parking space. He may face weapons charges.

There may be more trouble to come, since Environment Canada says there is no sign winter is about to end. Snow fell again on Quebec City and Ottawa Wednesday.

Montreal is also having problems disposing of the snow. One massive mound is around 80-feet high and officials told reporters that unless steps were taken to dismantle the pile, much of it would still be there when next winter started.
