  1. Spending the day Xmas shopping, and having some silly fun and laughs with a good friend. :)

Getting a nice big head start on the Christmas shopping season? Just avoid Black Friday. I can't see going out at midnight, after having your Thanksgiving dinner and being with a bunch of lunatics, trying to find that perfect gift that may wind up being returned anyway. :santa:

  2. exactly.

I still find myself just listening to bootlegs on my iPod. I keep the Sirius station on though, and if I see (by looking at the player) something interesting, I'll switch back.

Also, I enjoy listening to this station when other people are in the car. I just like to share the good vibes!

Nothing wrong with that. And the best vibes they are!

  3. John Paul Jones, among the others, has recalled over the years performing a legendary four hour show at the Boston Tea Party in 1969. I've often seen speculation concerning

if that show occured during their January (23-26) or May (28-29) 1969 performances at

that venue. The February 1969 article below makes no mention of a marathon gig and as

such would seem to suggest it was one of their two gigs in May.

Jimmy Page: After The Yardbirds...Comes Led Zeppelin

By BEN BLUMMENBERG | Boston Phoenix February 5, 1969 |

I expect the Led Zeppelin to be flying high for some time. They and the Jeff Beck Group are to rock what Formula One cars are to road racing. Their raw power is compelling and hypnotic while their complexity makes repeated exposure a pleasure. The L.Z. vary the arrangements of the same song on successive nights quite widely. As Jimmy Page who has little sympathy with complicated studio effects said to me: “If we can’t do it live, we won’t do it.” That idea hits me just right, as does the entire Led Zeppelin from stem to stern.

    Steve,

This is some article. It really gives you the feeling of what it was like to attend one of their early shows. It sums everything I like about Led Zeppelin so well. Unfortunately, I never got the privilege to see them live. Thanks. :goodpost:

  4. I find the female voice that introduces the inteviews to be very annoying......"PLANT"

Seems they lost everyone's solo collection except Plant's also. Soon I'll hear a deep booming voice say, "Robert Plant....A Man among Men"

Yeah that female announcer is rather annoying to say the least. Too predictable. :nuke:

Don't understand why they only play RP's solo material. I know he's had the most successful post-Zeppelin career of the three, but JP and JPJ have plenty of good material as well, so they could throw some of this into the mix. :wtf:

  5. Today, much to my delight, they played 2 live songs I hadn't heard before. The problem is that there's no way to tell which show they came from!

Does anyone have any ideas (I'll see if I can describe them to you)

    How Many More Times

It sounded really raw and it stuck very close to the album. Robert even threw out the "I've got 10 children of my own..." lines and I'm not sure I've ever heard that part live.

This was obviously early on because it was almost identical to the album, but still really good.

    Heartbreaker

Also really close to the album and also very raw sounding. The only difference from the album was the middle part of the guitar solo where Jimmy plays those little riffs (what are they btw?), it gets real quiet and then everyone cheers. (yeah I guess he did those tunes in the middle of a lot of Heartbreakers, just not the studio version)

Not much to go on I know, but maybe some of you can take a crack at it.

My guess is that those two performances are from Southampton, UK back on 1/22/73. They've played songs from this show before. I remember hearing Heartbreaker earlier this year on XM. So it's probably that and they did do HMMT during that show also.

    5. Let It Grow - Eric Clapton 4:15

    6. Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word - Elton John 3:48

    5. Rock & Roll Fantasy - Bad Company 3:19

    6. Candy Store Rock - Led Zeppelin 4:07

    Meg

I must say it's a pretty good collection of songs.

  7. Swandown,

Great list. Took a lot of time and very comprehensive. Interesting that they opened for Jazz greats Dave Brubeck and Woody Herman. Why was Zep on the same bill? I see you left out the festivals, since you can't really consider opening acts on those I suppose. Not 100% sure about those. :goodpost:

  8. XM/Sirius is kinda dropping the ball on this one. Here's an idea, have a special and play an UNRELEASED live show, from start to finish. Or have a talk show devoted to Zep talk and the new rumors. There's a shitload XM/Sirius could do, will they? Prolly not. It is still a killer channel, and one of 4 i actually listen to.

Now that would be the smart thing to do. Be creative and mix it up a bit, but who am I to say this. They probably don't think it's worth their while with two months on the air.

  9. eeeeyah, but I wasn't around for the first time and I still get what he's saying.

They literally play the same songs in the same order on the same day, later in the day.

I definitely agree with the material you suggested.

I'd even like to hear an occasional cover of a Led Zeppelin song. They're never as good, but they can be more fresh.

Some covers would definitely throw some life into it. Good ones, bad ones, funny ones. All is good, although at times we hears bits of these.

  10. For some reason, it seems to me that the station is way more repetative than it was the first go-round... I also listened on the way in to work, and on the way home it was the same songs in the same order. I actually went back to the news...which really isn't a bad thing. :)

Does anyone remember there being more variety last time, or am I having a senior moment?

That's probably because the first time around it was something new and fresh. We got excited about it. Now it's the same as before and maybe a bit tired. Mix it up more. Play more live cuts whether it from BBC, HTWWW, TSRTS or others. Solo material from JP and JPJ is also needed. It needs some life! :stereo::zzz:

  11. FYI, it's now available on XM Online...if everyone already hasn't jumped over to the other side. :)

Thanks for the info. Glad XM has it on. I cancelled last night, but my subscription goes through November 11th. So, when it ends I'll probably resubscribe. My Sirius one is only a trial one, so no cost to me.:bravo:

  12. Rain Song from the 1980 "Over Europe" tour is currently playing. Pretty sure it's from Zurich on June 29th. I've had the station on for a few hours now, and this is the first so called rarity I've heard. I love the 1980 versions of this song and this version is one of the best. Something to do with Jonesy's mellotron I guess.:piano:

  13. If you have XM it is on Channel 39.

    :cheer::stereo:

If you have a paid internet subscription to XM, it seems you can't get XM Led. Channel 39 is not listed. :boohoo: Earlier in the year when the station was on XM, it was available via internet. Over on Sirius now however, Channel 12 is available on the internet, so I cancelled my XM subscription and now going for Sirius for this reason.
