Listening to this for the third time this week. My God. They absolutely nail this. So beautiful. It really is equal to Zep at their best in their heyday, IMHO.

The new series The Exorcist. Do yourselves a favour people. Good little series.

This video of Led Zeppelin at Earl's Court on May 24, 1975 performing the "Song Remains the Same" just proves to me, that Jimmy, John, John Paul and Robert were the best and most Powerful Musicians the World has ever known.

Ahhh, the thread that will not die.
The "sloppiness" issue has always been overblown. He was very on-point for the majority of his years with Led Zeppelin. For all the criticism levelled at Led Zeppelin, reviewers never criticized Jimmy Page's playing technique...in fact, many of the early reviews were full of praise of Jimmy's guitar playing. Some critics even considered Led Zeppelin all technique and no soul.
It really wasn't until Eddie Van Halen blabbed his mouth and the 1980 soundboards that were stolen from Jimmy came out on CD that the "Jimmy Page is sloppy" meme got started. Yes, some of those bootlegs from 1977-1980 show a ragged Jimmy, but it wasn't every night. He was better than most people give him credit for in those years.
You try playing songs with multiple guitar parts with your guitar down to your knees while doing the Electro-stagger-strut loaded to the gills and see how clean you can perform?
The only question that matters is still: Whether he was sloppy or not, did his playing "speak" to you? If so, that's all that counts.
Let the anal retentive trainspotters criticize all they want. They are missing the forest for the trees.
Does anyone remember forests?
100%. speaking to you - such a good way to put it. I'll admit, some of the 1980 stuff is pure horrible (White Summer comes to mind), but like you said, it's some of it, not all of it. There are moments that are not surpassed from 1980. Where even under all that excess, those four men could produce things that speak to you on an absolutely incredible level. Some stuff they pulled of was perfection. If anyone has heard a more powerful, exploratory, groovy piece, where all four are absolutely in tune, and still very innovative than Trampled Underfoot from either Zurich OR the following night in Frankfurt - from ANY artist, I'd be stunned. Sue posted that WLL from 1980 recently too, which blew me away.
Sloppy?, a bit, but more accurate IMHO is to say - Tight but Loose.

IMO, great lyrics.
Absolutely.
Carouselumbra as well.
While not award winners, I think Sick Again tells the groupie story very well and The Wanton Song 'Took my seed from my shaking frame' - got to love that.
The Rover as well. Beautiful.

It always has surprised me a little that Jimmy would be upset that so many Soundboard bootlegs are out there.
The main collector of these surely are the rather hardcore Zep fans that buy whatever is official anyway, and even though I understand being pissed off about the loss of control about what is released, I would have thought that Jimmy would be glad the more stuck on fans, like us mob, had access to SO MUCH Zeppelin material. And it is all so interesting and amazing to hear. I'll listen to this stuff for the rest of my days. I'll buy and listen to whatever is released and LOVE it, but without all the boots, we would ALL be poorer for it.
I hope that doesn't come across as arrogant or selfish. I am sure there is a completely different POV from Jimmy, the owner of the boards that were, I understand, stolen from him. I'm just articulating how lucky I think we all are to have so much of what we love.

Keep in mind, that album was recorded in 30 total hours, a mere three months after their first rehearsal, when Jimmy was 24, JPJ was 22, and Robert and Bonzo were just 20 years old. Mindboggling how good they were at such a young age.
It is almost beyond belief.

Bloody oath. It's a cracking good song, good fit on the release, and is amazing to listen to IMHO. The second one on BBC Sessions I love. Both of them actually, but the second more so. I have yet to hear the new one (3rd disk) as I am still waiting for the right time.

Thanks for that post SAJ. Very interesting indeed!
Makes one think, a Zeppelin movie would just be too damn hard IMHO - but a movie about Mr Cole, wow! Easily could be a monster of a movie. It could really show what a different reality it was back then. and the journey as a whole. No question there is enough to "base on actual events" and not even have to stray too far! (maybe a bit of tweaking to protect the... um... still kicking. )

Not nearly enough live releases.

^ Do you get those kinds of displays for Zeppelin anywhere else? Here (BrisVegas in Oz) there was nothing. JB HiFi had the deluxe box up on the shelf with a "NEW!" sticker on it, that's about it. The CD only version was just in amongst the Led Zeppelin CD's in the A-Z section.
I'd love to see pics of any fan-fare that may go on elsewhere like above.

Has anyone else in the UK ordered from Amazon & if so, has it appeared in your library yet?
I can't see it in mine & have been refreshing it like someone playing Honda in Streetfighter 2, circa 1993.
The Honda reference - LOL!!!!! So many hours spent on that great game. I still have it in the cupboard somewhere.

Just picked mine up. SO excited.....
Great night coming up.
Bronco's vs Cowboys in NRL (Both QLD teams, so even if Bronc's lose, I'll still be mildly happy) followed by a nice late night listening session.
I will not so much as look at the track listing, just bang CD1 in, try to avoid even looking closely at the CD, and just listen and enjoy.

What a GREAT version.
What (Non-Led Zeppelin) Live Show or Song Are You Listening To At This Moment?

Dear Mr Page,
I just heard the Rolling Stones I Can't Quit You Baby.
OK, that's horse. (unreal/awesome/major/intense)
THIS Jimmy, this is what I thought the return of Black Beauty might re-ignite in you. Some of those sweet blues roots. Something to start you with something new - or a new interpretation of something done. The Stones new album is awesome. I truly hope Mr Page, you takes some inspiration from this and revisits this stuff. Guitar in hand, alone, GET LOST in it bruh! Then turns that into something more. Something for us - dare I say.
