  1. Submitted my dissertation, a couple of hours ago. This marks the end of my first year of postgraduate studies in Economics. One more year to go :) But first, I have a three month break to look forward to!!!!!!!!!! :yay:

Many congratulations Kiwi!! Enjoy your break, you've earnt it! :)

  2. The photos being posted here are real works of art, and truly are inspiring.

Greenman your photos capture England so well; they're beautiful and inspirational. Thanks for sharing them with us. :)

  3. Clint Eastwood is one of the few 'great' directors and actors left in Hollywood. As a director, I think what makes his films so exceptional is that they are so unfussy and understated, and the focus of the film is very much on the narrative. Having learnt his trade on the ground, he knows how to get the best out of the actors he works with, and demonstrates a maturity of judgement that's so rare in modern cinema. In period films such as Changeling, Los Angeles in the 1920s is so wonderfully evoked that once you've taken it in, you can almost forget about it.

  4. Been under so much stress lately. I am so jumpy these days and according to my mom, I am pretty hard to live with now! I don't mean to snap and get all worked up! :( It's just that there is so much to do and sometimes I just can't take it! My heart starts to pound, I break out into a cold sweat and my hands start to shake! Sheesh!

I'm glad to hear that you're feeling a little more relaxed. Stress can make even the calmest of people jumpy. Fool's right, it sounds like classic panic attack symptoms to me as well. The problem is if you get yourself all worked up, you won't be able to concentrate on the work you need to do. Try and take a couple of hours out of your day to just unwind and not think about anything stressful. Easier said than done, I know!

  5. ^^Kiwi, of course these lovely photos you took belong in this thread! Albert Park looks like a wonderful place to relax and hang out. Thanks for sharing them. :)

  6. Hi Kiwi & Slave, it is nice to be back.. :friends:

After spending the best part of 4 months WORKING glad to say I have now gone back into retirement for the next 8-9 months.

It's lovely to have you back Fool. :) Enjoy your retirement for the time being! How's your little grandson Leo doing?

Based on reactions I've read on various boards about this movie, I was halfway expecting not to like it. Thankfully, that didn't turn out to be the case. Perhaps those that were disappointed in it were expecting something far different, like a thriller or something.

I watched this recently and I liked it a lot more than I was expecting to. It's very much a human story with hardly any CGI except for the opening sequence.

I saw this the other night and I thought it was really good. The directing sytle is very similar to a Hitchcock film, edge-of-your seat stuff.

  8. hi magic

do you not see the jimmy pic anymore? i did try to change it, but it wasn't showing up, so i asked sam about it, and he wasn't seeing the new one either, but he's gonna try and fix it.

    yes, it's me :)

to sam and i, it still shows the jimmy pic

No Jimmy here. I see a very nice looking lady with long brown locks and a warm smile. :)

  9. ^^^You two are so cute...such good friends, so simpatico that you even listen to the same show at the same time.

Congrats on finally getting to hear this great concert, john. Might I ask which version you're listening to? Some versions are incomplete, missing Plant's comment, "I'm just beginning to cook", and is the gap in Ten Years Gone filled with the second source, or not?

Shoot, I forgot to post the show I'm listening to now: "A Stroke in Stoke" January 15, 1973, Trentham Gardens, Stoke-on-Trent, U.K.

Haven't listen to this in ages...probably not in 10 years since I first got it. It's a curious show, a soundboard with Jimmy's guitar slighty in the background, overwhelmed by Bonham's drums, and the audience nearly non-existent.

But what a pleasure to hear Bonzo bash away on his drums with such force, such ultra-violence, that you swear he wants to murder them! OTHAFA, Misty Mountain Hop, and the song I'm on at the moment, The Song Remains the Same are just incredible.

Trentham Gardens is just a few milles away from me. It's hard to believe that Zep' actually played in Stoke. No band would like that would play in Stoke today!

  10. Whatever is discounted when I go to the supermarket! :D Most kids don't make that much of an effort here, so I don't either. I may get a few special treats in for the ones that have put some thought into their costumes.

  11. after feeling better yesterday, i've gone downhill today.

it feels like there is glass in my throat. :(

i'm staying home from work tomorrow.

I had a throat infection like that once so I know how awful it feels. Stay at home as long as you can and rest, and drink lots of water. I hope you're feeling better very soon. :console:

  12. ^^I agree with Strider Kiwi. If you can gather any concrete evidence to implicate this professor then you should contact the Head of Department or even someone more senior in the university. Even if you can't get the evidence, I still think you should write an anonymous letter outlining what has occured. He deserves to get the sack for behaviour like that, and it makes me sick that people in senior positions can get away with it. In UK universitities it's now forbidden for students and lecturers to have relationships. When I was at university I once overheard a senior Professor commenting on a female student's 'kinky' boots! :o He was notoriously sleazy. We had a Women's Officer in the department I was in who was an arch feminist and took any complaints of harassment or sexism very seriously.

  13. I bought a vest at H&M over the weekend in L.A. without trying it on and when I settled in at home, I discovered it doesn't fit. Texas doesn't have any H&M stores. sad.gif My fault, but when I called the store to see if I can somehow exchange it via mail, I was told that all they can do is hold the size I need for 24 hours. blink.gif How the hell do they expect me to manage that?rolleyes.gif

I never realised H&M was now in the US. I was in H&M in Sheffield the other week and I swear all the clothes are undersized, either that or I've put on lots of weight since I last went clothes shopping. :o

  14. ^^^I'm also relieved that you're feeling much better now Kiwi!

Real Groovy (I know you well, and I know that's your favourite store!) must think that you're after a job Kiwi! :D Enjoy your new purchases! :)

I'm still feeling happy after my birthday last week, enjoying all the lovely pressies I got (espeically a beautiful card and an amazing CD from a certain person here! ;) ).

  15. Hi Fool,

I hope your leg gets better soon, that sounds nasty! I know what you mean about flies. We have a cow shed at the bottom of the garden, and we always get flies in the house if we open the window even just for a few minutes. This year I swear they've become immune to both fly paper and the repellent spray!

I can't wait the colder weather to get here either!
