  1. Melanie,

He must have been super pissed because I cannot recall ever having been so drunk that I would be requesting to be arrested.

And that flight isn't very long, maybe two hours if that. You would think he could go without for that long. In this post 9/11 world, he would have been arrested.

He would have to be quite intoxicated to have the balls to ignore the signs stating that an alarm will go off if smoke is detected. Of course being that drunk, one doesn't really care. :drunk:

Having to pay $1000, I hope that was one hell of a cigarette.

  2. May 23, 1995 - Portland International Airport

Jimmy Page, intoxicated, detained (but not arrested despite his request to be) upon arrival for smoking in the lavatory of United Airlines flight 2032 from San Francisco to Portland…faced $1,000 fine. He subsequently checked-in to The Riverplace hotel for one night and later that evening performed without incident at The Portland Memorial Coliseum.

That was an amusing read Steve.

Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy...just because you were touring with Robert and having a bit too much to drink on a flight doesn't mean it is 1975 and you are on the Starship. You can't just light up.

I have always wondered who would be brazen enough to smoke in an airplane lavatory. Now I know.

    This guy

  3. Very nice! Any tat ideas? We are playing it loose also - got a trip planned for a couple of days next week and then over 4th of July - otherwise, take it as it comes..... :suntan:

I have a few ideas kicking around my head. I will post after it happens. :bubble:

This is why I am happy today:

  4. Good for you! Any big travel plans this summer?

    :peace:

Thank you Walter. We are playing it loose this summer. No grand plans as of it but maybe we will uphold our tradition of going to NOLA for a few days. I would like to get a new tattoo. :D

  5. There's something odd about this one - the trousers are kind of see-through and it looks like the stripy material of the shirt goes right down his legs. Like he's wearing a jumpsuit or something. Was this a thing in the sixties - shirts with matching long johns?!

They just look like a pair of corduroy pants to me.

  6. Thank you Virginia and Strider.

The school district here is the only one that I know of in Texas that gets out this week. Everyone else, including private schools, had their last day this last Friday. My younger son's elementary school are doing squat this week. His class is having a movie day tomorrow, a board game on Tuesday and not much else on Wednesday and Thursday. Such a waste of time but it will also be the last four days of elementary school for him. :-(( On to MIddle school!

  7. I am very happy my boys only have four days of school left until Summer break. Woohoo!! They are so burnt out and having a few weeks to relax and recharge their batteries are much needed and anticipated.

Of course my 14 year old has 8 finals to take(7 since he has soccer for a class) before that can happen so it will be a somewhat stressful week for him.

  8. I will only say as this is a picture thread for Jimmy, my concern is that reference since Dorian Gray was not a nice charactor, seems to be accusing Jimmy for all the negitive things he's either done or hasn't done while all the while remaining beautiful. You also must remember, Jimmy is a caring person while Dorian Gray was not. He is part of 2 charities and he helped pay for Ronnie Lane's care. I think he has remained youthful looking because he knows he needs to take care of himself, which I don't think he did before. All of this is only my opinion.

You are reading waaaaaaay too much into this. Telling someone that they look like he might have a "painting in the attic" alludes to the person's youthful appearance, not a character judgement. It was meant as a joke and actually a compliment. Jimmy does look youthful for his age. The actual character of Dorian Grey was never referenced, just the idea of the story.

  9. It seems it was a phase rather than a life-long discipline. There's a May 31, 1977 interview at The Plaza Hotel in New York with David White of Radio 2SM Australia where he remarks there's "hamburgers on the way" to his suite. There's a press interview from '88 where the writer reports he'd left a bag of burgers beneath his chair, apparently too self concious to eat in front of her.

Oh Steve, I meant how long back in the 60's. I know all about going through a "vegetarian phase". I went through one that lasted two years. It was like experimenting with your sexuality in college...it doesn't last long because what you really want in life is meat. :D

  10. Possibly, but if so it should be noted his awareness of Indian music (if not culture) preceded his joining The Yardbirds in June 1966. He claims to have owned a sitar before George Harrison, and he asked his father if one of the Indian chaps at his work could show him a few things. He also attended a Ravi Shankar concert (circa early 1960s), after which he met Shankar and Shankar himself wrote down a few sitar tunings for him.

Hmmmm...now we have to figure out for how long he was a veg.

  11. Unsure why he chose to be vegetarian while touring with The Yardbirds, but it sounds like he'd become a fussy eater. He was off solids altogether for the first leg of the '77 North American tour, running everything thru a blender he had in his room. Heroin withdrawal is often accompanied by abdominal pain.

Thanks. I was thinking that he might have adopted a vegetarian diet around the time of discovering the land and music of India.

  12. I've noticed that his hair often obscured his face when he was performing with Led Zeppelin. Given his attention to detail I assume this was deliberate on his part. I guess it was all part of the enigmatic image he cultivated.

I don't think he wore his hair in his face consciously, but that it would get in his face when playing. He only had super long hair for a few months before cutting it much shorter in mid 1970. From that point on he would have some sort of bangs at various lengths, depending on the year.

  13. That sounds like a phrase Jimmy says, 'but now I see the error of my ways.' He does say that in his Hard Rock Treasures interview about moving house and carrying everything he's collected over the years. :P

    You're welcome. :D

Okay Aen, you have me intrigued. What interview is this?

  14. From the hair and rings, I'd say Outrider days...88-89

My guess is 93 or around time he worked with Coverdale.

I am not a fan of his hair at this point in his life. Someone should have taken his curling iron away from him. :D
