  1. Is this the one Melanie..

Volkswagen. Ferdinand Porsche, the man behind Volkswagen and Porsche, met with Hitler in 1934, to discuss the creation of a "people's car." (That's the English translation of Volkswagen.)

Hitler told Porsche to make the car with a streamlined shape, "like a beetle." And that's the genesis of the Volkswagen Beetle... it wasn't just designed for the Nazis, Hitler NAMED it.

That's the one. I found this topic very interesting so I did a little research. Here is a link to an article listing 11 American companies that supported Hitler. As with everything on the 'net, I am talking it with a grain of salt...a little bit.

Of course, the companies are decades removed from Hitler and those in charge had zero to do with such a controversial and vile past.

  2. speaking of fords, i was watching a war doco the other day, and they talked about how henry ford gave thousands of dollars to hitler, being all the profits of car sales in germany, and a $50,000 gift every year on his birthday! i was shocked to hear that! and they said hugo boss designed all the nazi uniforms, too .......

Yep. There are quite a lot of companies that worked with or supported Hitler. Plus, Hitler was the one that came up with Volkswagon, a car for all people. Porsche(can't think of his first name) designed the prototype for Hitler. He went on to start his own car company.

  3. I am sorry Kate. My thoughts are with your aunt and brother. My mom has had her struggles with alcohol the past few decades. Her psychiatrist put her on a medicine that blocks the receptors in her brain that triggers the cravings. So far, so good. She has been on it for a couple of months.

  4. Definitely! aen loves her lavender suited Jimmy! :D

    Yes :P

    How am I doing?? ^_^

Me too! Love the quote :D

This is one of my favourites! So cute!

I loved the way he looked on the 75 tour. So dashing and yet so adorable.

Edit: I am no referring to this photo. The one above it with him holding the JD bottle is soooo sweet. LOL

  5. Happy New Year Melanie,

I'm not going to get into the whole marriage thing, but I feel some of what you're saying.

Now that the kids are older I am definitely finding myself doing my own thing whereas when the kids were younger I went with the flow to keep peace. I am now in the process of rekindling some precious friendships and starting some new ones! It's all good.

    Be well

Happy New Year to you too Planted!

Yeah, I am keeping certain parts of my life to myself from now on.

What made me happy? Going to dinner with two GFs last night. We had a 2 1/2 hour dinner during which we shared two bottles of red wine which is good for me since I am usually not a wine drinker.

Edit: and I came home to the Charlie Rose interview. :D

  6. :-(

I know how you feel slave to zep, I feel that way too. I haven't had a best friend since high school. I think marriage, kids, work have come first. I've had friends (work, neighbors, couples who 'we' were friends with) but not a really close girl friend.

But . . . . today I got a wonderful compliment from another forum member on my art! That was very nice!

    Slave, Planted and Justawoman

I totally understand where you are coming from. I can fully relate. My husband is not very social so I am left out of social circles that are couples related. As long as you have one dear friend that you can count on and talk to, you are in a good place in life.

  7. The high will be 51F here and I am loving it! That's cold for us and I am happy to be able to experience somewhat of a winter since we have to endure at least 8 months out of the year of heat.

CP and Fool, I am happy you are getting to see the sun. Grey clouds are depressing so enjoy the sunshine while you can.

  8. Melanie, sparkly blue is also nice - especially if you're a Cowboys fan! ;)

Very funny Walter. Where are the Cowboys now? :P

jb126, don't feel bad. I rarely have polish on my fingernails because it doesn't last longer than a couple of days. Plus, I like keeping my nails short.

Along as I have my toenails painted, all is well with the world.

  9. Thanks Walter. I am much better today. It was probably due to the champagne I had last night and that I skipped breakfast this morning. I am back to eating sensible meals...starting tomorrow. I have homemade peppermint chocolate cookies to eat. Yum!
