  1. The Final Touch and Last Stand of Live Led Zeppelin ever to touch and Grace a Stage... I Miss John Bonham!!!

    http://youtu.be/fPidk8svtmk

Post-Script: When I used to post anything related to Led Zeppelin from a YouTube link, it used to show a picture of the video I was posting. Now when I do it it, it only shows the link. I much prefer to have a picture of what I intend to post rather than just a plain link. I have noticed that this has occurred to some and not others since the new changes to this website occurred. Can someone explain to me how to post the way I know and was used to?

By the way, this link is to the very last live Led Zeppelin concert from Berlin, West Germany on July 7, 1980. The very longest version of "Stairway to Heaven" ever. Also of historic note: "Whole Lotta Love" is the very Swan Song and the last song that Led Zeppelin ever performed as a Group.

  2. The reason I asked if Eric Clapton is still "relevant" these days in 2013 is because I read that his new album is mostly 'cover' songs of other people's work. Not that that seems to make a difference to die-hard Clapton fans but it seems a bit suspect to me. I believe that Mr. Clapton still has many years to go, so why make a "new" album that consists mainly of cover songs?

I considered seeing him when his tour came to Dallas, Texas, but decided against going after seeing that out of 22 songs in his setlist, I would have only really been familiar with about 12 of those 22 songs.

No offense intended to all the Eric Clapton fans out there. "SWLBAR", "Tales of Brave Ulysses" and "Badge" are some of My favorite songs.

  3. Rush Live DVD Due In May?

Rush are making plans to release a live DVD from their Clockwork Angels tour in May, according to industry website MusicTap.

The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductees filmed two shows in November for potential release. It’s been speculated that footage shot in Dallas on November 28 will make up the majority of the feature, with scenes in Phoenix on November 25 recorded as backup.

Fan site RushIsABand.com notes: “We hadn’t really expected the release until the fall, so this is welcome news. Although, as is typically the case, delays in the release date are likely – so we may not actually see it until sometime during the summer.”

Meanwhile, Guitar Center have released a brief interview video with Rush, made during their induction into the firm’s Rockwalk in Hollywood. In the clip below, drummer Neil Peart discusses the physical training required to prepare for their Clockwork Angels world tour.

I was at the Dallas concert back in November. What a great Fucking gig. There is a slim possibility that I might be included in the dvd because there was a cameraman filming some of the long shots (I had seats up and near the back of the American Airlines Center). He was about 5 feet to my left and he panned his camera toward me and the other people sitting in my section. I was screaming and yelling when he did this and I actually made the cameraman laugh.

  4. Two of My favorite Firm songs are "Tear Down the Walls" and "Spirit of Love".

Edited to add: I saw the Firm in Saint Louis, Missouri in 1986. My first time seeing Jimmy Page live in concert. I will never forget His bow solo inside the revolving green pyramid.

I had a friend who was also at this show sitting somewhere in the first 5 rows and He swears he saw Jimmy Page walk toward the back of the amps, roll up his sleeve and saw someone stick a needle in Jimmy's arm right before he started the Bow solo.

  5. The only evidence that is proof enough is when there is a video in my hand.

However, at least for me, I am not comfortable dismissing totally the information that is available. I can tell for others it makes more sense to dismiss the possibility and declare that specific events were not recorded. Completely understandable.

Regarding Houston, the only thing I can offer personally, first hand is a reporter from KHOU who did two live remote news broadcasts from The Summit during the Led Zeppelin concert told me that the TVs in the concession and common areas were on the entire time at The Summit during the Led Zeppelin concert and during one of the live remotes he intentionally placed himself so that one of the monitors was behind him over his shoulder in the background during his remote. Additionally, David McDavid of Irving, Texas told me that he saw the monitors on in The Summit during the Led Zeppelin concert. Also, through the years more than a few people have said they saw a video of the Led Zeppelin concert in Houston, that it was played during a New Year's eve bash each year. A tape of high quality and impressive audio. The guy with the concert tape in Houston is a high profile former athlete and it would not surprise me if he has the Elvis tape as well. He has a lot of things. Also, personally, I have heard audio from a different source than the one that circulates for Houston. It is stereo and multitrack-ish sounding.

Regarding Zurich, the only thing I can offer personally is a collector in Palm Beach told me this past December that a Zurich video may surface soon as he had been contacted as a possible buyer by a private collector in Montreal. On his iPad he had a :30 seconds sample he was sent for consideration, a source different than what circulates for Zurich. It was stereo, impressive and sounds multitrack-ish.

If I had access to them, they would be public. I have no doubt that people who read this forum know more than what they are sharing, wish they would. I have never understood the not sharing mentality.

    Just asking.

Are you saying that the David McDavid that sells cars in the D/FW Metroplex went to and saw Led Zeppelin at the Houston Summit in 1977?

  6. Does the movie The Banger Sisters feature any Zep references?

I know that they are a loosely disguised parody of the Plaster Casters, who immortalised the erm, privates of stars like Hendrix.

Yes, there is a reference to Led Zeppelin in this movie (actually a reference to Jimmy Page's penis).

It is a scene in which the Banger Sisters (Goldie Hawn and Susan Sarandon) were getting high in the basement and looking through a box full of Polaroid pictures of Rock Stars penises. They would look at the picture and try and remember which Rock Star penis it was. They looked at one picture, say something (can't remember exactly what), and then turn the picture over (the name of the person was on the back) and both of them say "Jimmy Page". Actually pretty funny.

  7. A reference to Page on bass is found only here:

    http://www.nzentgraf.de/books/tcw/works1.htm

That site is normally accurate, but perhaps incorrect in this instance? So it seems I may need to ask Bill Wyman if he wouldn't mind checking his notes on these sessions...

There may be two songs on 'Metamorphosis' Jimmy Page performed on, 'Heart of Stone' and possibly 'Some Things Just Stick In Your Mind'. Bear in mind Jimmy was also Oldham's in-house producer for Immediate so he may well have been present for several of the other recordings.

Cool. Again, Thanks. I will have to find and listen to "Some Things Just Stick in Your Mind" and the alternate version of "Heart of Stone".

  8. The week of June 29-July 7 1964 Jimmy participated in a Mon & Tue session with the Andrew Oldham Orchestra at Decca Studios in London…guitar and/or bassist on 'Try A Little Harder' & 'Some Things Just Stick In Your Mind' with various artists. Wikipedia says it was recorded February 13, 1964 but The Complete Works of The Rolling Stones website matches Jun/Jul dates.

Then from July 21-24 1964 he participated in a Mon, Tue, Wed session with the Andrew Oldham Orchestra again…bassist on 'Heart of Stone' with Jagger/McLaughlin/Cattini.

However, Jimmy is not featured on 'I Don't Know Why', which was recorded July 3, 1969 (the night news broke of Brian Jones' death) during the sessions for 'Let It Bleed'. The music after the stop was spliced in at a later stage, and the second slide guitar solo by Mick Taylor is a copy of the first solo.

Thanks for your quick reply. Like I said, the solos have a very distinct Jimmy Page sound. I guess Mick Taylor is/was a fan of Jimmy Page even way back then.

I had just recently "re-discovered" "I Don't Know Why" when I began listening to the Rolling Stones box set titled, the "London Years" (which I have had for at least 20 years, it seems). Great stuff by the Stones. I know that John Paul Jones does the "arrangement" on "She's a Rainbow". Other standouts on this collection includes, "2000 Light Year's from Home", "Jiving Sister Fanny" and the great (and probably little heard of) "Memo from Turner".

So, one last question, are you saying that Jimmy played bass on an alternate version of "Heart of Stone"? Is this the only song that Jimmy played on that would eventually be released as the Rolling Stones Metamorphosis? Thanks!

  9. I guess this could be considered a "mystery".

On the Rolling Stones album, Metamorphosis, released in 1975 (however, a compilation of songs recorded between 1964 and 1970), is that Jimmy Page who plays the guitar on the (great) song, "I Don't Know Why"? I know that Jimmy is credited as playing on this album. If true, then it was when Jimmy was still a session musician. Hence the 1969-1970 timeframe.

Listen to the two solos beginning at around 1:04-1:25 and at the 2:05-2:27 mark. I could be wrong, however, these two brief solos have a very distinctive Jimmy Page sound.

This picture of Robert Plant and Michael Douglas is very intriguing to me. I belive it is taken from some Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Oslo, Norway or Helsinki, Finland. Whether I am right or wrong, I don't care. What captivates me is a very interesting picture of two of my favorite persons engaged in what seems like a very meaningful conversation.

Anyone have any better knowledge of the origins of this photograph?

  11. It still breaks My heart that Ronnie James DIO is no longer with US. I know that there are other threads related to Ronnie, however, I wanted to start a new one because He deserves all that His loyal fans can and do really appreciate.

From what I have seen, read and heard, RJD really Loved and Appreciated His fans from all over the World. I had the privelage to see him twice and even got to shake His hand when He came offstage to greet all His fans.

After Robert Plant, Ronnie James DIO is my favorite Singer.

    LONG LIVE RONNIE JAMES DIO!!!
