I'm not a hoarder, just a busy guy! I have a couple of audiophile friends asking to make digital clones of all my master tapes and post them online. If I do return briefly to US this summer I probably will retrieve those tapes from storage and commission them to take a stab at it.

Ok mate thanks. Have a good weekend

I thought it was a very solid gig. The sound could have been better but I felt the same way at other venues on that tour. I'm not winding you up about attending or filming the complete show, as I did both at several UK gigs in 1995 & 1998.

Oh, and if you find it in your heart to somehow let me see that video footage I'd be forever grateful

I think I was higher up in the audience than you were, towards the top. But on the same side. Hard to believe that it was nearly 20 years ago. I was a 24 year old kid for gods sake. Seems like only yesterday

There is no soundboard recording of Manchester 1998 in circulation. It so happens I attended that show and filmed it in it's entirety from the right side of the arena, about half-way back.

There is no pre-FM mix of the New Orleans show, however if I recall correctly it is possible to overdub the audience recording over the bit the DJ speaks over.

What were your thoughts on the gig Steve? And are you winding me up about videoing it, or even attending?

  5. Hi all. I attended this gig and left very disappointed because of the acoustics at the venue. Totally ruined it.

There's a bootleg around, an audience recording. The sound quality aint that good, particularly in comparison to the sound of the awesome Paris and New Orleans gigs. My question is; does anybody know if there has been a soundboard release for the Manchester show?

And while we're at it, is there a Pre FM mix of the New Orleans show that doesn't have that nobhead DJ talking over the music? When I listen  to it I feel like strangling the bastard.

Cheers in advance for your help.

I have several P/P shows, but here are some of my favorites for tracklisting and sound:

Together Again- This has several things from P/P from '88-'94 including a version of You Shook Me featuring Chris Robinson! (i'm a huge  Black Crowes fan)

Together Again V- This is another compilation that has their '95 Atlanta performance of Achilles Last Stand and their '95 New Orleans performance of House of the Rising Sun/Good Times Bad Times!

Simple Truth- This is the excellent sounding broadcast of their '95 San Jose stop!

Presence Now- This is their '95 Toronto show that includes their RnRHOF set!

Two Swans on a Century Lake- This is one of my favorites on the Real Dragon label. It contains the entire '96 Nagoya, Japan show as well as some other Japanese rarities, their one-off performance of Ten Years Gone and a stunning performance of The Rain Song in which Jimmy plays the beginning twice over! All in perfect sound!

OOH LA LA- This is their '98 Paris broadcast. Excellent sound and notable for it's almost complete performance of We're Gonna Groove!

L'evolution De Led Zeppelin Continue- These CD sets have two of my favorite shows. The first being their '98 broadcast from New Orleans, excellent sound and a fantastic performance!  The second is the '98 ULU London show where they do Trampled Underfoot and Night Flight!

Honorable mention: Together Again VII- This is their '96 Rio De Janeiro show. This has, IMO, THE greatest version of SIBLY ever played by Page!

Anyone know where I could get the '98 ULU London show?

Around 1975, I think. My mum and dad had some friends whose two kids (a girl and a boy) were a few years older than me. We used to go to each others houses for dinner etc, and whilst the adults were nattering over gin and tonics or whatever, us 3 kids used to sit in the front room, usually in the dark, and listen to music. One evening at their house the lad put on LZII, III and IV and I was intrigued. He lent me the albums for a couple of weeks and I played them to death. I specifically then remember PG being released and listening for the first time to Ten Years Gone in that same room. All the details of the room are still crystal clear in my mind - even down to the colour of the sofa - and every time I hear TYG, it's like I go whooshing back in time and I'm sitting on that sofa again, awestruck by this amazing music.

(Just for moffo and hammerhead - all of this happened in Shevington!)

My favourite Zep tune. Still blows me away when I hear it.

I picked up my dad's LZII when I was  14. I was hooked after the opening riff

Definitely, CP has held up very well.  I really liked the first Firm album when it came out, but it has not aged well.

I loved 'Manic Nirvana' when it came out, but I don't think that's aged well at all. Sounds like a bloody pop album too to my ears now.

I still maintain  Coverdale/Page is the "best" overall effort put forth by any one of the three ex-members of Led Zeppelin. Just IMO.

Completely agree. I can't really get excited by anything RP has done.

Good ol' fashioned fanzines from the nineties, Xolo...Early Days and Latter Days (Andy Adams) a short lived British fanzine covered the what and whereabouts of Scorpio's Studio Daze and Jennings Farm Blues in 1990. At that time only What is and What should Never Be and Dancing Days where released on silver.. But the tape box of the multi track tape clearly mentioned Moby Dick. A few years later Hugh did some research on the origins of these tapes and published an interview in Proximity.

    Bloody hell. Thanks mate

Only one of these 2" multitrack reels 'escaped' from the vaults in 1990s (Reel 3 from Long Beach). This was not a plain soundboard, but a professional recording from a mobile studio(most likely Wally Heider's). Seventies soundboards are either two track  on 1/4" reel to reel or audio cassette. If Moby Dick from the Long Beach show is cut before the coda, this doesn't mean it's incomplete. Sound engineers mostly work with two alternating decks for live recordings....so the Moby Dick coda would be on reel 4

The 30' Long Beach segment  was copied onto DAT and brought into circulation on Scorpio's "Studio Daze" in 1990 and Dynamite Studio's "One more Daze" in 92.  (thanks to Hugh from Proximity and Andy Adams for compiling the full story)

Amazing! How on earth would you know this?

I love Sunshine Woman (some of Page's funkiest playing) & the '71 Communication Breakdown on the 3rd disc is absolutely killer.

I also spent Saturday afternoon listening to the '71 show (second CD) & had forgotten how good it was, great versions of Since I've been loving you, Stairway to Heaven, Whole lotta love & Thank You. Does anyone else think that Page's guitar could do with more distortion on that gig though, especially on the first two numbers & Black dog?

Another minor criticism is the track listing, my booklet is a nightmare to read & I feel that a track listing for each disc should've been somewhere on the inside cover.

Yes, I agree. Needs way more distortion

    That's awesome!

Doesn't seeing that $8.50 ticket price seem fucking depressing in 2016? I can't be bothered adjusting for inflation etc but that's probably be a $150-$200 seat nowadays...

Awesome indeed. I was born in '74. My Dad, whose vinyl collection I turned to when I was 13 (Led Zep 1 in particular completely blowing me the fuck away) had the chance to go see them in Liverpool in '73 (my hometown) and never went. Something to do with being a newlywed, having a mortgage, wanting to start a family, saving up etc. I wonder how much the tickets were....10 pence? Who knows! He regrets it. Even if you inflated it, probably still nowhere near the price you have to pay now to see complete shite ( e.g pop bands like kings of Leon/black keys). Weird I could have had a role in my dad not seeing Zep.

Still, he saw Hendrix 3 times. And if my Ma wants to piss me off she reminds me that she saw him 3 times too....but only cos he was on the same bill as cliff Richard.

apologies all for my massive digression. But the kids are in bed, it's a Thursday and there's red wine

Me too! What a MONSTER show! This is one of my favorite Zep shows period. All members are bringing their all, Plant sounds great, Jimmy is on fire like a batman costume from 1975, and the Jones / Bonzo engine room are taking no prisoners.

Those Dutch bastards got two spectacular shows that weekend. If the Knebworth shows in August were even half as good as those July shows were, Knebworth would have been leveled ala Perth 72'.

    Hey buddy....and fellow Perth-ite???

Dutch???? You mean Danish???? I'm sure you were waiting for one of us to point out your deliberate mistake??? Haha

    Have a good day mate
