  1. "Anyone who's not heard all these should just dive right in and enjoy." Sage advice!
  2. Come on, surely you mean the neighborhood!
  3. Anybody found the links to listen?
  4. JMH, hi. You've got your Led Zeppelin-listening well and truly covered! What's high-rotation in 2023?
  5. In this age of streaming and digital audio portable devices, how do you most often listen to live Led Zeppelin? To kick things off, I'm 'old school', listening to DVD audio played through a loungeroom stereo. No headphones, no earbuds, just two speakers and four walls. Well, I guess as Headley Grange showed, floor and ceiling play roles, too.
  6. 1975NQ (which hints at a mighty discourse in itself!), thanks for your take on Zep in '71. I wonder if other bands have quite so much deep-diving into their performance levels and shifting degrees of individual contributions across times and places as Led Zeppelin? Of course, Zep was a constant line-up where Black Sabbath or Deep Purple or a myriad of other bands with determined fans have much more disparate pedigrees to contend over. Michael
  7. 1980 saw the last performances by John Bonham's Led Zeppelin. Is it fair enough to characterise the band that way? After all, there have been reunion and special occasion performances by the remaining members of the band plus a drummer or two since that year, but very few argue that even the best of those shows completely captures the essence of Led Zeppelin. The following list is my understanding of the places played and the recordings made at each venue that year. 8. It's great there are so many great shows. And even better that so many sets of ears here make enough distinction between 'this show and that' that the conversation might never end.
  9. Hi Steve. The February 12 show is reckoned to be one of the best sounding Zep boots from the tour, perhaps even the best ever with all the rumours about official involvement in its sound, but also includes a not fully on top of things vocal performance from Plant. Remarkably clean and balanced sound, a not top-rank performance. The March 27 show is characterised in one review as "Led Zeppelin’s final show of their 1975 tour at the LA Forum is one of the longest, heaviest and self-indulgent on record." With extra-long versions of showpieces 'Dazed and Confused', 'No Quarter', a performance of 'Trampled Underfoot' that Page has reckoned the best ever (including a sidetrip into 'Gallows Pole'), it also allows for including a Mike Millard recording amongst the shows featured in this list. Two shows, same year, completely different sound, performance levels, and with the March 27 show an opportunity to feature the work of a taper who contributed, I would argue, so much to fans' appreciation of live Led Zeppelin that without his tapes many would find collecting audience-taped Zep boots an endlessly frustrating exercise in aural disappointment. Michael

  11. A roughly 'chronological' concert (linked to album release dates except where performance/taping quality trumps the calendar) of Zep live - one personal variation for a career-spanning show. 12. Hi Steve. May I have a link, please, and also to the Earls Court set? Thanks, Michael
  13. Hi Michael. Discs 7 & 8 sounds like a very good idea! And still, from your text above, there'd be tough choices to make. Thanks again for the remarkable treasure trove you've compiled, and especially because diving into it sponsors the urge to listen to whole shows that might have slipped beneath any individual's (that's me) horizons. Michael
  14. Hi Michael. Thanks for your response. As it happens I put together a compilation a few years back myself (not quite ten years gone), and when I checked it over I found I'd only used one track from February 12 1975 too, "No Quarter". I don't recall that Plant's voice was the primary criterion for choices I made across the compilation, but clearly something was nagging at me about that show. My guiding principle, apart from the 'bonus' last track of "Bring It On Home", was to put together a chronological 'concert', not the way artists do structure their shows in the real world, but in my case, an umbrella concept for choosing performances across the years of releasing material and subsequently performing it. I've discovered that the track listing for Volume 9 (six cds of honourable mentions) on the '50th Anniversary Box Set' text file is different from the songs/shows downloadable from the cloud site. I've also discovered that the quality of each version across the two sets of 6 cds is so high that you could quite straightforwardly have made both line-ups available, an embarrassment of Zep riches! What decisions led you to settle on the tracks that make up the downloadable cloud site compilation? Plant's voice? I wonder how often Peter Grant spins in his grave when after so much effort to stop Zep being bootlegged at all there exist so many shows that can be drawn on to make the remarkable collection you have put together? And subsequently I have to be sure send fans off to seek out entire shows. Thanks again, Michael.
  15. Hi Michael. Can I ask why you have passed on February 12 1975 as a 'go to' amongst the best of 1975? "In My Time Of Dying" picks up an honourable mention, but tracks from a set that once had fans gushing are otherwise not featured. Best regards, Michael McGennan
  16. Received and VERY much appreciated!
  17. Hi Michael. I'd very much appreciate the link, too, please.
  18. Hmmm, seems there are mp4s and there are mp4s. I'll have another go with the same footage as an flv. If it's a no show/no sound, looks like I'm on a learning curve. sample.flv
  19. Hi Steve. "[tisdu] lives" was not a post to indicate that your methodology is in any way '[tisdu] revisited'. They are quite distinct processes. I know, because I'm the guy who reinvented [tisdu], well aware of its channel-splitting and micro-second shifting origins in record companies' transforming mono sets in the 1960's. My post was simply to indicate that... [tisdu] lives. zepec052475nq.mp4
