As Mrs CP is having a girlie break in Prague, I am having slobby, easy to cook nosh for one this week. Simple Roast Chicken and Chips this evening. I will have a couple of glasses of a Pinot Noir but no Weed. I am not a fan of having a toke on my on own. I might dig out The Albert Hall DVD which I have not watched for years and certainly not on our newish HD TV.

There was a Ryder Cup? Absolutely no buzz about it among my circle of friends and co-workers. And I stopped listening to Tony Kornheiser's podcast months ago, partly because he talks about golf too damn much.

How strange that Sean?
Maybe because Tiger didn't feature? We all know how one man makes a team eh?
Yes there was Ryder and Solheim Cups in the last 2 weeks, which Europe won both. But it's hardly surprising it wasn't news Stateside.

The opening music to this tour was This Mortal Coil and their version of Song to The Siren. ( I think) or was that " Shaken and Stirred"? Yes maybe it was as it was the highlight of the evening along with Richie Heywood's drumming

OK. Here goes. And this is a tough decision except for number one. Ill rank from top to bottom, using album number and name if appropriate.
IV Forever stands as the greatest album in rock and roll history IMO. Not close. The best ( some others on my list, Dark Side of the Moon, Whos Next, Machine Head)
VI (hope my roman numerals are correct but its Physical Graffiti and only reason I picked it over 2 is because there are two albums)
II (such a classic with Whole Lotta Love leading the way)
I ( this is tough, I feel its a tie with Houses of the Holy)
V ( yes, Houses of the Holy, always loved it. I always relate this to winter, with No Quarter setting that mood. Of course Dancin Days adds the summer to it. Dyer Maker, top 40
III ( known by many as the "acoustic album" and SIBLY is on here. The most under rated LZ album. The Immigrant Song made the top 40 charts I believe?
VII ( I love Presence, as all of the albums. I change my mind on this from time to time. The other 6 are just so great I have to put Presence here. But many will disagree.
I hope I get some response. If none comes, feel free to pull the topic Sam.
I take it you've forgotten about "In Through The Outdoor" eh Rick? Hardly surprising as it's, well not great. Mine are:

He once famously said it cost 800 pounds a month to heat!
That was then. Imagine how much it would cost now? Our modest 2 bedroom stone cottage costs us the best part of £200 to heat and light a month.

To open with Hot Dog doesn't sit right with me. In fact the set list is somewhat disjointed. To close with Misty Mountain Hop wouldn't work either. At a push shove In The Evening as an opener
If you will, could you imagine the excitement and frenzy of waiting for the band, for them to open up with "Hot Dog" ??? No no no.

That's interesting Chilly my man. If I had that kind of money - or any kind of money, I'd still live here. Not in this house, but not far (-2hrs) from it.
The real issue in this country is the geographical gap between the rich haves and the poor have nots. The South, in particular, the South East gets the lion share of the money. The poor North gets basically fuck all. It hardly surprises me when I watch the (BBC) news and they want to lead a story on poverty, up North they go. Every fucking time. God forbid a poor story from the South East. They never can find one. The Government treat (Illegal) Asylum seekers better than locals. They get houses, money, in fact everything. Violent and crime generally is out of control. We witness a gang of filth trying to steal a Scooter the other week. Outside a large Supermarket, on a Saturday afternoon in front of horrified shoppers. These vermin have been terrorising towns and villagers around the town for ages and the Police don't do a thing about it.
If money wasn't an option we would move out of this overcrowded, damp miserable Island. Where to one could ask? Australia would be very high on our list

That purchase price in the 70s seems low so I did some checking. Let's include the renovations Grant did. The total would be 90,000 GBP. Using overall inflation (not real estate inflation) in Britain since 1973 we get 1,060,000 GBP today. The current exchange rate to USD is 1.25 so that is $1,325,000 today.
Another way to look at this is take 90,000 GBP Grant spent and convert it to dollars in 1973. The exchange rate back then was $2.40 so that gives us $216,000 in 1973. Ok, that is equal to $1,508,000 today using overall inflation.
Based on these rough estimates Grant got quite a deal back in the 70s even if we include the renovation spending listed in the article.
If he bought the house in 1971 those two years would add a bit more to the inflation adjusted figure. For example the USD figure would be $1,611,000 based on todays money. Using GBP we get 1,271,000 as the equivalent of 90,000 GBP in 1971. With todays exchange rate of $1.25, that is roughly $1,588,750 in today's dollars.
Today in the US $1.6 million would not likely buy you an estate like that. I don't know about real estate in Great Britain. I wonder how much 1.27 million pounds would buy today?
Real Estate with Land, especially in that part of the UK, is very expensive. On top of the asking price, you can add on Agents fees (1% say) and Stamp Duty, which in this case is another £550,000. To run that type of property would cost endless thousand of pounds. You can't change anything as it's a Grade 1 listed property. If I had that sort of money, I wouldn't live in the UK anyway.

I was at the Manchester Poly show. I was 19 years old. I was very close to the stage and had a great time. People did yell out for Zeppelin songs but Plant put that to bed very early on. " We are an RnB Band not a stadium rock band" if I recall or something like that
All Saints was a great venue. I also caught The Police there supporting a (in) famous Didsbury band called The Albertos, in the 70's. Gong too, and their off shoot Here and Now. Many a joint shared in there I can tell you.
Random Thoughts. The Return.

The PM has finally put an end to the worlds most unkept secret that is the cancelling the HS2 rail link from my home City to the shithole that is London. Quite how the appeal of getting to the dump 20 minutes quicker is beyond me. The place can sink in it's own cesspit of shite as far as I am concerned.
