  1. One theory: it's pun on "airhead". (ozone = air) The song is an obvious comment on groupies.
  2. Otto's post basically tells the story. The session was held 2/23/65, during a break from the sessions for Eddy Mitchell's Du Rock N'Roll Au Rhythm N'Blues album. Jimmy is credited with co-writing 3 of the songs: "Stop The Drums (I Wanna Get Off)", "Drum Stomp" and "Lord Byron Blues".
  3. "Come With Me" charted at #2 in the UK and #4 in the US. It's the only top-5 UK single by any member of Led Zeppelin.
  4. You are correct. Jimmy played "Lucille", "Barbara Ann" and "Fun Fun Fun" in Philly during the afternoon, then played on "Surfin' USA" and "Barbara Ann" at the Washington show that night. You can see a clip of the Washington show here
  5. I bet when Will Shade wrote this, he was assuming that the original song would never see the light of day. Because now that it has been proven that the two arrangements are not identical, he looks like the bitter Jimmy Page hater that we always knew he was. There's no evidence to support this claim, aside from a quote (30 years after the fact) from Jim McCarty. But there's also a quote from Jimmy Page who says he wrote the original song himself. Just because one person says something, that doesn't make it true. That's not how the world works. *shrug* If only he'd copyrighted the song or had some other evidence that he actually wrote the song, then he wouldn't have needed Jimmy to help him out. Maybe, but his vocals are also out of tune and his voice was in such bad shape that he needed the other Yardbirds to cover for him on the high notes. Again, I think Will Shade assumed that no one else would ever hear the song so he felt free to exaggerate as much as he wanted. Yeah, because neither Page nor Plant ever wrote flower-child lyrics.
  6. Funny. When Plant was writing songs for Manic Nirvana, he told one of his collaborators, "Make the lyrics deep and meaningless -- like the old Zeppelin lyrics".
  7. "Four Minute Warning" was recorded in 1985 for Brian Eno's record label (in hopes of landing future soundtrack gigs). It was eventually released on an album called "Music For Films III". The "Risk" soundtrack and the "Tom Thumb Theme" have never been released, and both movies are out of print. You might be able to find a used VHS or DVD somewhere.
  8. "Four Minute Warning" is an old recording of JPJ's that was later used in a documentary about space flight ("For All Mankind") "Risk" features all new music. Some of it is quite good. "Tom Thumb" features one new song from JPJ (an instrumental). And the song on the Nick & Nora soundtrack was written by a totally different "John Paul Jones"
  9. Steve, I believe the person is asking if there's any evidence that Robert and Terry Reid worked together in the '60s.
  10. Wikipedia says that Swan Song closed down in October 1983. The final album release was the self-titled debut from Simon Kirke's Wildlife, in April 1983. The final 45 was Wildlife's "Somewhere In The Night" -- supposedly it was released in September, but that seems quite odd for a 45 to show up 5 months after the album. The Principle Of Moments was released on Es Paranza (Robert's own label, which Peter Grant helped set up) in June of 1983. So I would imagine that Swan Song started winding down operations sometime between April and June.
  11. At least one Stones bio (Nico Zentgraf's "Complete Works") says it was 9/17/77 at the Half Moon Pub in Putney.
  12. It was a charity album for the Year Of The Child organization. Supposedly, members of Zep helped to pick the running order.

  14. Jimmy Page, 1972: "I went up to see him sing; he was in a group called Obstweedle or Hobbstweedle, something like that, who were playing at a teacher's training college outside of Birmingham to an audience of about 12 people." Interesting that Jimmy was using the correct name way back then, but for some reason it never stuck. Meanwhile, the book "Brum Rocked On" has a list of popular music venues in the Birmingham area in the '60s. One of them is Walsall Teacher's Training College. I haven't seen the book but it apparently links the college to both Hobbstweedle and The Band Of Joy.
  15. Steve -- I believe you are correct. I think I was mixing up stories (there was a limited-edition colored vinyl LP released around the same time).
  16. It was a special colored-vinyl pressing of the album. Apparently, the buyer did not notice for several years because they never broke the shrinkwrap. I believe Rick Barrett had it for sale at some point.
  17. Good Lord, how were you able to track that down so quickly? Do you have every single rock and roll interview from the past 50 years memorized or something??
  18. Funny thing is, when Faithfull told this story originally she claimed that Jimmy and Jackie wrote "Come And Stay With Me" specifically for her. Only problem was that A], Jimmy didn't co-write it, and B], it wasn't written for Faithfull. Oh well.
  19. I noticed that the booking list claims that the Band Of Joy are signed to EMI, but obviously that wasn't the case. Wishful thinking, perhaps? BTW......The Amorous Prawns!!
  20. The BBC website says that the drummer on this session was Dougie Wright. However, I found another database that lists another BBC session in July 1968, consisting of "Dim Light", "I Got A Loneliness" and "Long Haired Boy". Rose also made an appearance on Germany's "Beat Club" TV program, but I think that was after Bonham left the band.
  21. It also means "Oh God" in some translations, which is why the song was later renamed "The Truth Explodes".
  22. "Baby Let's Play House" (from 2001) was aired on Japanese TV a while back. Also, another artist that JPJ played with at the '75 festival was Maria Muldaur.
  23. But she was the ex wife when Jimmy said, "comforting my ex-wife".
  24. If the interview was done in 2003, then "ex-wife" could have been a reference to Patricia, right? When exactly were the tapes stolen?
