  1. Two vinyls: Tammy Wynette's debut album, Your Good Girl's Gonna Go Bad. A classic Willie Nelson album, Phases and Stages.
  2. Paul Butterfield and his band were really great. My favorite is The Resurrection of pigboy crabshaw. Elvin Bishop plays some really tasty stuff on that record.
  3. Nothing but a heartache - The Flirtations EXCELLENT TUNE!!
  4. His first solo album is great too.. Quite experimental.
  5. This is a nice take on Shake Your Hips. Their debut album Blues Helping is a forgotten tresure for any blues lover.
  6. Whohoo!! I found Blue Cheer's second single, Just A Little Bit / Gypsy Ball, with picture sleeve and all from 1968!! (bad picture)
  7. I had never heard of them until yesterday. It was my girlfriend who saw that they were playing in Glasgow and she knew who they were since before. I'm really happy we went to see them, a really remarkable band!
  8. Babel Check 'em out at: http://www.myspace.com/babelbristol They are currently touring the UK. Some words about the album: "(An) outstanding full-length debut by the Bristol six-piece. Babel write some terrific tunes with unexpected twists.. ( **** )" (Mojo Magazine) "..a remarkable second album. ( **** )" (Uncut Magazine) "an album of inventive, touching and triumphant pop songs.. a true success." (Clash Magazine) "Batten down the hatches everybody, folk has grown muscles. Babel have an assuredness that's just cocky enough to be attention grabbing and just handclappy enough to make your guts go gooey." (NME) "..Crooked Timber is as good a debut as you're likely to hear. ( **** )" (Rock 'n' Reel Magazine) ".. Babel sing their own unique & uplifting tune. ( *** )" (Q Magazine) "a blessed relief... with a strong potential to be a repeated favourite as autumn comes around." (CMU Daily) "A fine debut." (The Epoch Times) "Quietly ace." (Rock Sound magazine) "Oddness, wrapped in the cushioning miasma that is the acoustic guitar. Drama for the beardy brigade" (Artrocker Magazine) "an assured and compelling debut." (Bristol Evening Post)
  9. I saw a great Bristol band yesterday called Babel. They had a cool sound with all kinds of influences such as blues, folk and rock. They have made two albums and I purchased the latest of them after the concert. http://www.myspace.com/babelbristol
  10. Yeah, I could've bought the CD, but I'm such a sucker for vinyl.. Only got myself to blame.
  11. Last night when I went to see Cut In The Hill Gang I purchased their new LP, Hung Up.. Unfortunatly I don't have a turntable here in Glasgow so I won't be able to listen to it until JUNE DAMMIT!!!
  12. I'm going to see Cut In The Hill Gang tonight at Captain's Rest in Glasgow. I guess you can say they play some sort of modern blues, not too far from R.L. and Hound Dog Taylor. http://www.myspace.com/cutinthehillgang Johnny Walker (vocals & guitars) is a former member of the Soledad Brothers who had a similar style: http://www.myspace.com/soledadbrothers Good stuff!
  13. Try that one with Flying Burrito Brothers. One of the best version ever recorded of that song.
  14. Didn't expect that one to show up here either. Their single, Magic Potion is one hell of a great single, B-side is just as great as the A-side.
  15. Didn't expect to see that album get mentioned around here! Cool. Great album!
  16. You know what you just said now? Buddy Holly's recordings are even older, so I guess those doesn't count for what today's definition of "basement tapes" are either. After all, they have already been released once, but with overdubs, in the 70's at the time Dylans Basement Tapes were released. Just messin' with ya.
  17. ^^ I have never listen to any of the Kinks bootlegs around. Got any tip for a good one?
  18. How about Bob Dylan's and The Band's "The Basement Tapes"? It's a GREAT double album!! I wouldn't wanna be without it.
  19. ^^ That's a great song. I've been listening to Freebird, their Mucle Shoals version, a couple of times.. Now I'm listening to Fighting, Thin Lizzy.
  20. I was listening and watching this on youtube: If you don't know what a Mellotron is, or, if you'd like a good laugh, watch this
  21. I can see one reason to release the demo tapes. Back in the 70's much of thos recordings were released with overdubs made years after the plane went down. I don't really like when people interfere in the work of someone that has past away. So, even if these recordings isn't anything Buddy Holly wanted to see the light of day, his work will somehow get some redress when released without those aweful overdubs.
  22. LOL, thanks beatbo, but I think I'll have to listen to them a couple of times to live up to your expectations. I agree with you that some albums really grow with time. There are many albums by artists that was overlooked at the time and got bad reviews and all. But in time with another perspective they can even top the albums that got rave reviews back then. Not yet, my first list should be in priority.
  23. I love Buddy Holly & The Crickets. They made some damn fine music.
