  5. I vote for fake. Although this is sourced from a newspaper, I'm sure that the poster would look more like this:

  8. The answer is there on the wall. "Hunter's Restaurant". Google search that and Double Bay and you get... The Hunter's Lodge Restaurant Celebrity Room 18 Cross St, Double Bay NSW 2028, Australia(02) 9363 1747‎ and Google maps says across Cross Street, you get Stamford Plaza
  9. Steve, On the first leg of the US 1977, John Paul Jones played an acoustic/electric 12-string Ovation guitar during the band's acoustic set. It is known from video, audio and pictures that during the 2nd leg, Jimmy Page played the mandolin during "The Battle of Evermore" and the Martin 28 6-string during "Going to California", "That's The Way" and "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp". Assuming that John Paul Jones played mandolin on the triple-neck Manson acoustic during "Going to California" and "That's The Way" (and of course Arco Upright Bass during "Stomp"), which of the scenarios occurred? 1. John Paul Jones played Jimmy's Gibson mandolin or another mandolin 2. John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page switched parts and JP played all mandolin except for on "Stomp" and JPJ played guitar.
  10. The picture of Robert Plant and two girls is on Page 49 of the Q Classic "Led Zeppelin Classic, Rare and Unseen" from November 2005. It's a Jim Marshall photo from June 1972 in Los Angeles.

  12. They seems to have the groupie "look" too.
  13. Didn't you say over at R-O that JPJ had sold this house a long time ago (mid 70s?). That would narrow down WHEN the pictures were taken. JPJ has some wisdom to his face. He looks old than in those color pictures that you had posted. It's a mystery!!
  14. Any idea on a date & location for these??
  15. Robert Plant was also in attendance as MC for the evening. Setlist: 1. Same Old Rock 2. Male Chauvinist Pig Blues 3. Too Many Movies 4. Home The others performed under the monniker of "The Intergalactic Elephant Band".
  16. Iowa Memorial Union, Main Lounge 180 Iowa Memorial Union Iowa City, IA 52242-1317 Built: 1927 Venue Capacity: 1100 The 11,407 square-foot lounge seats up to 1,100 people. Built in 1925 as part of the original IMU structure, the lounge has hosted thousands of diverse events, including graduation ceremonies, distinguished lectures, banquets, weddings, and concerts. Speakers who have appeared in the Main Lounge include Tom Brokaw, George H.W. Bush, Geraldine Ferraro, John F. Kennedy, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr., Phyllis Schafly, Gloria Steinem, and Lech Walesa. The Main Lounge has featured performances ranging from the Count Basie Orchestra to REM. "The Main Lounge has a distinctive character that you often don't find in large meeting spaces," said David Grady, associate vice president and director of University Life Centers. "The restoration of this historic university landmark will make it more inviting, functional and attractive. We look forward to creating more great memories inside the Main Lounge." http://www.news-releases.uiowa.edu/2006/november/111306lounge-reopen.html I remember a summer job in 1995 that I was was installing temporary PA systems for corporate functions/parties/etc. and one day I was to report down to the Iowa Memorial Union to hang some small Tannoy speakers in the Main Lounge for some University function. I remember climbing ladders to attach these speakers to multiple chandeliers in the Lounge. "Carefully," I was told. "These chandeliers are from the 1920s." I remember the vast and enormous room size with the white plastered walls and a huge natural echo. Clapping my hands would reverberate for 10 seconds. All of these speakers were being hooked up to a digital delay system so that all of the crowd would hear at the same thing at the same time. A few hours later, I was done with the install and went home. That night, I was talking with my (now former) father-in-law. I said that I was at the Iowa Memorial Union. He said "Do you know that Led Zeppelin played there in 1969? I saw them. They were F'ing loud!" He went on about being friends with Patrick Hazell - guitarist for Mother Blues Band. I thought that this was a pretty neat find due that most every website and book listed that date as taking place at "Iowa State University" which is 2 hours away in Ames, IA. He also had mentioned that there were pictures in the yearbook from that year Also, they were apparently a replacement for the Count Basie Orchestra, who took a week long residency at the Tropicana in Las Vegas, NV. Ice storm in Iowa or the heat of Las Vegas. Easy choice, don't you think? Speaking of ice storm, there were rumors that the equipment truck had a difficult time in getting around the neighborhood around the Memorial Union, which is quite hilly.... I can attest to that.... and that the concert started late and they had to use Mother Blues Band's amps. They played for about 200 people that night of January 15, 1969.
  17. Interesting though with that black & white pic and the color one that the piano, fender showman amp in the back, JPJ and JP all switched sides throughout the evening. The drumkit stayed the same though!
  18. Nope, Norman Hale http://www.normanhale.com, was born 13 years earlier than Gareth Hale. December 10, 1975 St. Helier, Jersey Behan's Park West
  19. The four symbols were created as part of the fourth Untitled album, however the earliest any of them were shown on stage was at the November 11, 1971 Newcastle City Hall show. Presumably, Jimmy Page's Zoso symbol was on the Marshall straight cabinet on the same night but the earliest I could find a picture was 8 days later at London's Wembley Empire Pool show, on November 20, 1971. Whether Robert Plant's symbol appeared at the same time is a bit of a mystery, however here is a picture of it from May 27, 1972 at Amsterdam's Oude Rai. Who knows when it was ever used again? JPJ's symbol on the curtain in front of the Fender Rhodes piano disappeared after the 1972 Japan tour, John Bonham's symbol was retained through the 1975 Earls Court shows and Jimmy Page's Zoso symbol disappeared after the Knebworth warmup shows in Copenhagen on July 23-24, 1979.
