The Pagemeister Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 (edited) Official Press Release / After much speculation…the wait is finally over. Journey--Neal Schon (guitar), Jonathan Cain (keyboards), Ross Valory (bass), Deen Castronovo (drums)--is proud to introduce fans all over the world to their new lead singer, Arnel Pineda ("pin-eh-da"). He replaces Jeff Scott Soto, who parted ways with the band earlier this year after stepping in for Steve Augeri, who had to leave the band in 2006 for medical reasons. Arnel hails from Quezon City in the Philippines and has been singing Journey songs--in addition to original material--with his band, The Zoo, for the past couple of years in clubs all over his homeland. Joining the legendary band is a dream come true for him. Journey is currently working on a new album with legendary producer Kevin Shirley, which they hope to release by spring/summer 2008. Details will be announced early next year. WebLink: www.Journeymusic.com. Edited December 6, 2007 by The Pagemeister Quote
Jahfin Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/inde...on-the-internet Journey Finds New Singer the Old-Fashioned Way: On the Internet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6HjcCzgCCX0 Here’s a YouTube tale with a happy ending: Filipino singer Arnel Pineda (pronounced “pin-eh-da”) posted footage of himself performing Journey covers with his band the Zoo and was discovered half a world away by Journey guitarist Neal Schon, who was trolling the site for new blood. Schon got in touch with Pineda (and convinced the vocalist he wasn’t pulling a prank on him) and voila: Pineda has been named the band’s latest frontman, replacing Steve Augeri, who left last year. “It’s so exciting to sing with one of the best bands in the world,” Pineda said in a statement. “It’ll be a lot of hard work on my part and I’m actually looking forward to the scrutiny I’ll get from the hardcore Journey fans. I know they’ll expect me to sound exactly like ‘the voice’ (Steve Perry), but that will never happen. I know there’s only one Steve Perry in this world.” True enough, but Pineda sounds spookily similar to his idol: check out the clip of “Faithfully” above for proof. Rolling Stone Quote
The Pagemeister Posted December 6, 2007 Author Posted December 6, 2007 This new guy sounds identical to Steve Perry. Journey have a shot at making a comeback. The only album I liked from these guys was Departure. Quote
Mattmc1973 Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Steve Augeri sounded just like Steve Perry too, I saw them in concert, and if you closed your eyes, you never would've known the difference. But hey, here's an idea...why not GET STEVE PERRY?! Quote
Jahfin Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Steve Augeri sounded just like Steve Perry too, I saw them in concert, and if you closed your eyes, you never would've known the difference. That's probably because he was lip synching to a tape of Steve Perry. At least according to reports that were circulating a year or so ago. But hey, here's an idea...why not GET STEVE PERRY?! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Perry_%28musician%29 Quote
Jahfin Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 (edited) I must say I love Journey. I dont know why some Zepp fans on here put them down. Maybe because several of the members came across as a bunch of crybaby pussies on VH1's Behind the Music special putting them in the same category of their latter day MOR inheritors, Creed. Or maybe it was because of the skewering Beavis and Butthead gave this video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=GAuMYKalLag Edited December 6, 2007 by Jahfin Quote
eskimoblueday Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Didn't Steve Perry leave Journey for medical reasons? Then his replacement left for medical reasons... it's almost Spinal Tap-esque. What does this band do to their lead singers? Quote
Rock Action Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Yeesh. Sorry, but ever since Gregg Rolie left the band they've turned sickeningly soft. Yes, I own a Journey cd. I admit it. But it's Look Into The Future. No Perry, no sickly sweet ballads. It's quite an interesting disc, I highly recommend it. Quote
