Heaven and Hell

I went to see Heaven and Hell, you know, Black Sabbath with Ronnie James Dio Saturday night at the house of blues, Showboat Casino, Atlantic City.

Got there early and was first in line. Saw this lineup five times, but never got close before. This is the perfect venue to get real close to the stage if that's what you're into. Arrived at 10AM to find noone in line. NICE!!!

My friends and I switched on and off all day to be up front. We went right into the venue midday and saw them setting up and testing the equipment. A band called Halestorm warmed them up. Holy Shit they rock, but I must admit I was there for Tony and the crew.

Started out with E5I50 and then The Mob Rules. Played several off of the new disc inlcuding Bible Black, Fear and my personal favorite Follow the Tears which is mind-blowing heavy heavy lead guitar riff which spotlights Tony's amazing ability to get really heavy - as he always has.

They also played I and the Time Machine from Dehumanizer, children of the sea, Neon Nights, Die Young and Heaven and Hell from their first album, heaven and hell. They also played Falling off the Edge of the World from The Mob Rules album.

It was the first concert I ever recorded, yup recorded myself. I snuck in a killer Sony Camcorder during the day, hid it inside the arena and got it as soon as the let us in. Since I was first-second row it was hard as security was on me but I got alot of the show and three songs in full.

However security did roust me. They first caught me and told me to erase it. I told them I was when I was only rewinding it, then I handed the DV off to my friend, put a new one in, then got caught again and they took the Dv tape that was practically blank. I begged them to not take it so it would look like they got the good one. The only problem I have is that I can record onto my Sony DVD recorder onto a DVD, but the DVD only plays on that recorder/player and no others. Can anyone help me!!! I want to upload to youtube, but can't figure out how.

I also some awesome material from the Zep Reunion Concert which is the same thing. I can't get it digitalized. I have the Front Row crew - several shots before the show, Dave Lewis' interview with someone(?), and coolest of all I have the head of security going over all of the rules of the show before we went in, what we can take in, what we can't, no running, no running, no running and many many outdoor shots of the 02. someone help me please. I never thought I was computer illiterate until now. I went to best buy and the girl there told me to put it on a dv-r instead of a dv+r but it didn't make a difference.

Back to Sabbath - a killer show, incredible songs and I saw my other guitar idol front row, just like Jimmy!!!

Dreams do come true as Dio says.

How's it going "bigzepfan?" I hope all is well with you. I saw HEAVEN AND HELL with JUDAS PRIEST here in San Antonio a while back, I loved the shows! I'm not sure if the inside fighting between Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler is still going on in court, do you know? From what I heard and please don't quote me, Sharon Osbourne was the instigator that broke BLACK SABBATH up. Is there any truth to that since I have not been keeping up with the BLACK SABBATH saga? In the mean time, ROCK ON!

As far as I know it hasn't gone to court yet. A shame for sure.

Many say that Sharon is behind it, but I don't know for sure. It wouldn't surprise me though. She'll just say she's looking out for her man...and fuck the band that made him a success.

I think it's weak..the lawsuit. After all of these years, come on already.

I also saw the Judas Priest one as well as Alice Cooper, Megadeth and the original Mob Rules tour. I really hope the keep going. Songs like Follow the Tears show that they still have it together.

How's it going "bigzepfan" A.K.A Front Row Dave? I hope all is well with you. That is so cool that you saw The Mob Rules Tour, I would have loved to seen BLACK SABBATH (HEAVEN AND HELL) back then. I did see RAINBOW'S, BLACK SABBATH'S Technical Ecstasy and Never Say Die Tours in the 1970's, that was a great time to go to concerts. ROCK ON!

That is so awesome. You saw the original Sabbath - pre-reunion stuff. I always wanted to but was not old enough. Born in 65. My brother saw the black and blue tour with blue oyster cult, but at the show he went to several people were killed so it was enough for my parents to say - no way is david going to a ROCK concert. I think that was the never say die tour, but not positive.

Any highlights from the early sabbath shows you'd like to share?? Songs they played, wasted sabbath fans, odd stuff on stage, etc. I love to hear about the old sabbath shows.

Hi bigzepfan , I saw them too about 3-4 months ago, i think it was may 4, here where I live, Bogota- Colombia,

it seems that they played the same playlist there , altough here the sound wasn't the best due to the site where they did the concert, it was an awsome show, Iommi still Rocks!!!, and the voice of Dio really gets you trough their music without mention a great drummer like Vinny Appice and an incredible bass player Geezer Butler.

I really enjoy the concert and I hope they keep doing great music in the next time, I don't have listen much of the new album but Bible Black its pure heavy!!

I heard from someone at the show(definitely rumor) that Dio is going to do a solo album and Iommi is getting surgery so they are taking a break for awhile.

I hope not too long as they really do rock together.

I see alot of the Columbia show is on you-tube. Must have been a great show!!!

How's it going "bigzepfan?" I hope all is well with you. Since I've been home, while drinking Rum and cokes, I've been going through my many hundreds and hundreds of concert tickets but I can't find my BLACK SABBATH 1976 Technical Ecstasy tour ticket in order to give you the date that they performed in Los Angeles. I was pretty ripped as was my then crazy girlfriend Donna, my best friend Tod and his then crazy girlfriend Stacy. Donna stole some mushrooms from her Dad and all four of us got ripped off our asses not to mention the weed and the hard alcohol that we consumed. Please remember that all four of us had fake ID's. The only songs that I remember them playing was "War Pigs/Luke's Wall," "Paranoid," "Iron Man," "Back Street Kids" and "Rock 'N' Roll Doctor." The rest, I blacked out.

I found my ticket for the BLACK SABBATH/THE RAMONES concert that was held at the Long Beach Arena in Los Angeles on Monday, 4 December 1978. As usual, Donna, Tod, Stacy and I were f*c*ed up. Its also hard not to forget all of the trouble that we all got into that day. Tod, Scott and I were grounded from driving our cars since we all got suspended from school (For a very long time might I add) for lighting bottle rockets as well as throwing smoke bombs and bricks of Blackcat firecrackers in the high school library and the principal's office. And it gets worse, the school caught on fire resulting in everyone evacuating the school premises. Not funny at all, that was a very bad situation that I would deeply regret later in life with my parents. Now Donna, on the other hand, despite her father threatening her not to take any of his or her mother's cars to the concert since she had a history of wrecking them, she took one anyway. And not just any car either. It was her father's PRECIOUS decked out 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air with a high performance 350 cubic inch engine that was shining with chrome. He had a brand new Cherry Red paint job done on it which was an attention getter with the beautiful shine that it possessed. Her Dad had the long chrome exhaust pipes on each side of the car underneath both the driver's and passenger's doors and it hauled ass! It also had chrome traction bars underneath the back of the car with flashing lights, it was one beautiful car. (Notice when I say that it WAS!) No wonder that her parents would later hide the car keys from Donna. Anyway, thats a long story in itself and I don't even want to think about all of the trouble that we got into that day. Damn, I regret the hell that I put my parents through. And my sister ain't (And still ain't) no saint either. Anyway, enough of that, time to talk about the concert now. (Whatever's left of it!)

From what I can remember of that concert, SABBATH looked pretty strung out, at least Ozzy did. (I should talk!) But despite that, in my opinion, the band played pretty good. From what I can remember, they jammed to the songs "Hole In The Sky," "War Pigs/Luke's Wall," "Never Say Die," and "Paranoid." I wish that I could tell you more but everything else in my mind is a total blank. I was hoping that I would have a flashback later on in the future and remember but it didn't happen. I just mainly remember all of the trouble that I got into before and after the concert, it was very sobering and a devestating rude awakening.

In closing, you figured that all four of us would have learned our lessons considering what happened at both ZEPPELIN concerts that all four of us attended in 1977, we didn't learn anything. What can I say, we were just four teenage kids trying to have too much of a good time for our own good. Enough said, thanks for reading and ROCK ON!
