LivingLovingHeartbreaker
If Led Zeppelin never existed or fell apart after LZ 2, what band do you think could have filled the second spot (after the Beatles) on the list of greatest bands ever? Btw I'm new, hello everyone!
Strider
The Rutles, of course.
TheStairwayRemainsTheSame
Led Zeppelin really did set the precedent pretty late, I'd have to say The Rolling Stones and maybe even KISS.
Strider
Kiss? KISS?!? :faint: Sorry Stairway, you're cool and all, but I gotta give you 10 demerits for that. As for which band would fill in the second slot in a hypothetical greatest bands of all-time, well most of the rock publications tried to pretend Led Zeppelin didn't exist anyway, so all you have to do is look at most of the Rolling Stone rankings from the 70s and 80s. Or check out some old NMEs, Village Voices, Trouser Presses, or old Robert Hilburn articles. Even during Led Zeppelin's heyday, the order of greatest bands/artists in history usually went something like this: 1a Beatles 1b Rolling Stones 2 The Who 3 Bob Dylan 4 The Clash 5 Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band 6 U2 7 Neil Young 8 Bob Marley 9 David Bowie 10 Elvis Costello Defunct bands like the Velvet Underground, Jimi Hendrix and the Doors would also get ranked higher than Zeppelin on a consistent basis. Only in readers polls for Creem and the metal mags would Zeppelin be at or near the top in greatest bands lists.
