  1. I have a better question. Why do you continue to insist that Robert Plant is holding up some kind of Led Zeppelin reunion tour when there isn't even one planned? The surviving members of Zeppelin and Jason made good on reuniting in memory of Ahmet at the 02 and made no further commitments beyond that. Plant is only making good on his obligation to tour with Alison Krauss in support of Raising Sand. As it stands there are no plans for any kind of Led Zeppelin reunion tour. If it happens, it happens. If not, I'm perfectly happy with what Plant is doing in the here and now.
  2. I don't think Robert Plant owes me any type of explanation or that he is trying to be the "center of attention". This project was planned long before the 02 reunion and nothing has ever even been said about a Zep tour, that is only speculation. He's only carrying through his obligation to tour behind Raising Sand. I'm sure if Page, Jones or Jason had similar prior commitments they would see them through first as well. Plant holding up some kind of "reunion" tour (which is only a rumor anyway) is all in your head. If it's meant to happen, it will. Until then I'm going to enjoy what Plant is doing now.
  3. I don't recall ever referring to you as a "troll" but you do seem dead set that Plant owes you something in regards to a Zep tour and that he is the sole obstacle (again, what if Page, Jones or Jason were in the same position as Plant, would you direct the same type of outright hate towards them?). For one thing, nothing has even been said about a Zep tour. The 02 concert was the only thing that was promised. There have been tons of rumors flying about a tour, a new album, etc. but I chalk them up to just that, rumors. Until then I'm going to enjoy the upcoming Plant and Krauss show when it comes to Raleigh. If there happens to be some sort of Zeppelin tour, album, etc. after that I will consider it icing on the cake. I don't think Plant (or Page, Jones or Jason for that matter) owe me a thing. They delivered on the reunion concert in honor of Ahmet which is all they ever promised.
  4. From RollingStone.com Alejandro Escovedo Lights Up Venerable Austin Club Alejandro Escovedo’s Thursday CD-release show at the venerable Continental Club in Austin was as much about celebrating the 57-year-old Hep-C survivor’s career-defining album Real Animal as it was about honoring the Continental, a 51-year-old venue that just this week gained designation as a historical landmark. Shortly after midnight on the first of back-to-back nights, Escovedo, ever dapper in a pinstripe suit, began his set for the 193-capacity crowd with “Put You Down.” It was a slow-building, curious opener for the six-piece considering it wasn’t from the scorching new album, but it nonetheless set the tone for the forthcoming dynamic interplay between the three-headed guitar section and strings duo comprising cello and violin. Soon enough, Escovedo showcased what the people came for: deafening new tracks like “Real As An Animal” (which he noted was homage to Iggy Pop) and “People (We’re Only Gonna Live So Long),” its lyric “We still got time/But never quite as much as we think” ostensibly a nod to both his late-blooming career and the club he first started playing nearly three decades ago. 6. Exactly. One reason why I always loved the David Lindley song Pay Bo Diddley.
  7. I believe I first heard it sometime in the 80s on a station out of Jacksonville during a trip to Florida. They must have been playing the flipside to The Immigrant Song. The next time I heard it on the radio was just prior to the release of the first box set. I believe that's when I finally got around to ordering the actual 45. When I arrived at the record store to pick it up I noticed one of the clerks was playing it which pissed me off immensely. Thankfully they did nothing to damage it. I still have it to this day but it is in storage along with the rest of my vinyl.

  9. Very true but he doesn't seem to be the only one here that is severely misinformed about why a Led Zeppelin tour isn't happening. It's though those people either haven't been paying attention and/or are acting rather child-like by covering their eyes and ears and are keeping their heads buried in the sand. I'm a huge Zep fan and would love to see them tour at some point but I also understand why it isn't happening and why it may never happen (there was never a promise of a tour to start with, just a one off show at the 02 in memory of Ahmet), none of which I blame on Robert Plant, Alison Krauss or any of the surviving members of Led Zeppelin. I just fail to understand what so many find so difficult to understand about that.
  10. Why would Plant be touring with Page, Jones and Jason anyway? The 02 concert was planned as a one time only event in memory of Ahmet. Plant's commitment to record and tour with Krauss was made a long time before the 02 concert even happened. He's only making good on that obligation. The same could be true of Page, Jones or Jason if they had made similar commitments. If Zeppelin were touring, the economy would be having the same effect on their tour. Try reading the article and see where only a handful of artists are having successful tours due to the overwhelming price of gas and the struggling economy.
  11. I'd call it one of the best records I've had the pleasure of hearing in recent years. Sit around and whack it to old photos of Led Zeppelin if that's what pleases you, the rest of us are firmly planted (HA!) in the here and now and the fact that Led Zeppelin is not touring but Plant and Krauss are. If it's meant to happen, it will. Otherwise, welcome to the reality of the situation. Plant made a commitment to record and tour with Krauss long before the 02 concert was even mentioned. I'm not sure what so many seem to find so difficult to understand about that.
  12. Or maybe, just maybe it has to do with the economy and slagging ticket sales in general. Try to wrap your brain around that concept just for a second. When people are struggling to make ends meet it's not an "excuse", it's called trying to make ends meet and put food on the table. I could give a fuck if the Beatles reunited, if I can't afford the gas I'm not going. Imagine for just a moment that the shoe is on the other foot and that Page (or Jones, or Jason for that matter) had made a commitment to record and tour prior to the 02 show and had to follow through with those obligations prior to making any other plans. In that case, if any type of Zep tour was planned it would have to wait until those previous obligations were met. That's not to even mention the fact that the O2 show was only a "one-off" to start with. None of them are obligated to tour as "Led Zeppelin".
  13. By LAURA ACUFF Eagle Staff Writer Country music icon Jerry Jeff Walker loves the Lone Star State. He has called Austin home since 1971 and helped revive Luckenbach -- recording his best-selling album to date, Viva Terlingua, in the town's old dance hall. But he isn't a native. The 66-year-old songwriter, who will travel to downtown Bryan on Saturday to headline the city's Texas Reds festival, originally hailed from New York. He recorded his first few albums there but headed south after finding the Greenwich Village scene didn't quite fit. In Luckenbach, he eventually found a scene and a band that would allow him to play his music, his way. Before Walker's move to Texas, his most successful release had been Mr. Bojangles -- a song that wouldn't peak until the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's remake hit shelves a few years later. (It also would become a hit for Bob Dylan and Neil Diamond.) However, with the release of Viva Terlingua in 1973, Walker became known as a pioneer for progressive country music. Since that album, which went gold, Walker has released more than two dozen other offerings, some new and some consolidations of older releases. Through his four-decade career, he has published an autobiography, Gypsy Songman, and experimented with other genres such as jazz and pop. Nowadays, Walker caters mainly to steadfast fans through his web site, www.jerryjeff.com, and his own label, Tried and True Music. He recently spoke with Spotlight. To read the interview click here.
  14. Jimmy Buffett: No trouble in paradise This summer, the music legend is back playing to sold-out stadiums. Here, he reveals how 40 years on the road have strengthened his family -- and his ever-growing empire. By Ann Oldenburg When Jimmy Buffett was trying to come up with a name for his annual tour, he got together with a group of buddies and bandmates to brainstorm. "We said, 'What are we going to call this after 40 years? What do we do now that we're still here?' " he says. "And that became this summer's motto: The Year of Still Here." 15. I'd say it has more to do with the economy and gas prices. The entire concert industry is struggling, not just the Plant/Krauss tour. As for concertgoers attending just to hear Zep, all one has to do is look at the setlists to gauge that. I'm attending on the strength of Raising Sand, not to hear Plant & Krauss cover Led Zeppelin.
  16. Not sure if you read the article or not (judging from your ill informed response, I'd say NOT) but I'd say it has more to do with the economy and the price of gas. As for Plant's tour with Krauss it was in the planning stages long before the concert at the 02 was even a blip on the radar.
  17. Any magazine that doesn't list a member of Led Zeppelin in the top slot should be boycotted.
  18. Check gas prices lately, not to mention the economy in general (see the article below)? I suspect it has more to do with that than anything. It seems people will try to find fault with Robert Plant, even in places it doesn't exist. As if it hasn't been said enough already, the Raising Sand album and tour were planned far in advance of the 02 concert so it's not like he's keeping Led Zeppelin from performing together again. That concert was planned as a "one-off" anyway. If he wants to do more shows it will happen in due time. In the meantime all the complaining about Plant touring with Krauss is just a huge waste of time. Gas Prices, Economy Shake Sales for Summer Tours
  19. I love it. In fact it was the Honeydrippers album that sent me in search of early sides by Elvis, Ray Charles, Jerry Lee Lewis, etc. Much the same way the early Zeppelin records sent me in search of the original blues recordings that inspired those songs. I also think there's much more at play on Raising Sand than rockabilly. I've heard some even refer to it as a "bluegrass" record when I don't hear any bluegrass on it at all. Only a few songs even hint at rockabilly. I think there's something far greater at work there, a forging of Plant and Krauss' multiple influences that encompass more than just rock and country but all the styles that slip through the cracks.
  20. I enjoyed it immensely, just as I enjoy Raising Sand. I think both showcase Plant's wide variety of musical tastes.
  21. I heard Mr. Soul off of this today on XM's Deep Tracks. While I liked it well enough it didn't quite compel me to rush out and find the record. Still, not a bad job at all. 1. Birds 2. 22. Lists like this come out everyday. I don't think anyone is having their collective arms twisted to read them. I'm sure if everyone here came up with their own lists they would all be markedly different, as they should be. If we all had the same exact tastes that would be a lot worse than yet another list no one could agree on.
  23. Michigan Man Accused Of Stabbing Mom With Fork, Attacking Woman With Frozen Chicken (AP) A man was accused of stabbing his mother with a fork and assaulting a second woman with 10 pounds of frozen chicken. Frederick Duane McKaney, 40, of Ypsilanti, was arraigned Wednesday in 12th District Court in Jackson. He faces two felony assault charges as well as one count of assault and battery and one count of resisting an officer. Prosecutors said McKaney stabbed his mother in the back of the neck with a fork Monday night. About an hour later, he hit a woman in the head with a plastic bag of frozen chicken. They had exchanged rude words while he rode his bicycle. She needed five surgical staples to close her wound. McKaney has no attorney on record with the court. A pre-exam conference is scheduled for July 2.
